Tried to make the scores relative to show how much I love the top scoring ones. I tempted to start playing around with scores and whatnot so I'm just going to have to post to stop temptation!

I'll be a bit disappointed if Exhale (Shoop Shoop) comes last in this! It's such a gorgeous & soulful song. It doesn't command instant attention like her 80s power ballads & the Bodyguard ballads, but it's still as beautiful as those tracks imo, just in a different way - it's a lot more understated. Reigned-in Whitney vocals are still powerful. Interestingly it was her last US #1 hit.

I'm glad that there's a few fans of Step by Step here! It's a huge favourite of mine. These days it seems to be very overlooked in terms of her run of singles, and unfairly so imo! Listening to it just makes me feel happy, it has such an uplifting & inspiring message (about trying to overcome hard times) & I love the fusion of gospel and dance. This part of the song is a highlight of her entire discography for me:

(to 2m52s). Perhaps it'll be a surprise to some, but it's actually one of her strongest sellers in the UK. It was revealed in 2012 that it was her 11th best selling single! It peaked at #13 and spent 11 weeks in the Top 40; at the time that was a lengthy run, particularly for a non-Top 5.

Obviously she has many heavy hitters particularly from the 80s that absolutely deserve the love they get, and of course some songs have to be towards the bottom of the results, but I feel these two songs in particular deserve more attention. </3

I think the "least good" song here is Love Will Save the Day... it's rather long and repetitive! Fun enough to hear for the first half of it, but it needed an edit.

I've had 'All the Man That I Need' on repeat since I first heard it just a few days ago - I feel this could easily become my new favourite from Whitney if I am still obsessed in a couple of weeks. How have I not heard it until now?!
  • 3 weeks later...
I'm really freaked out because I was just listening to 'All the Man That I Need', paused it to watch a video of two people dancing and they were dancing to THAT SONG!!

I'm so so sorry about the delay guys :( Results will be happening, i've just been extremely busy over the Summer so far. I will sort something out and i'm sorry again <3

RESULTS commencing ;o

23 songs. Lowest average was 6.25, highest was 9.52.

Such a good turn out, hopefully you're all still here to comment on results as they come through <3

I won't let my spirit fail me

21. Step By Step | 7.22

22. Love Will Save the Day | 6.93

23. Exhale (Shoop Shoop) | 6.25

Missing out on the important top 20 are these three. In last place, though still maintaining a respectable average, it's 'Exhale', taken from the movie 'Waiting to Exhale' and a song of growing up and letting go of the past. It was Whitney's 11th and final #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 but we don't seem to think it has aged as brilliantly as the rest as it settles for last place. 'Love Will Save the Day' also drops out and it's no surprise being the 5th single off the second album and a largely forgotten number in comparison to what else is still to come. And next, pioneered and pushed by Jay, 'Step By Step' has just narrowly missed the top 20. Written and originally recorded by Annie Lennox, it later became a hit for Whitney. Soulful and dancey, it's a hidden gem that I wasn't really aware of before this rate!

No real losses there I must say (sorry Jay!!).

Why are you lying though xxx

Exhale is beautiful & soulful, while Step By Step is the bop that BuzzJack members simply don't deserve. Oh well! :snif:

Not particularly gutted about Love Will Save the Day; for me it's one of the weaker moments (out of songs included) and definitely the worst out of her big 80s hits. Perhaps if it had a good edit it'd be a nice little bop, but the version I heard (5:22 in length) felt like it dragged on.

Looking forward to the Top 20 reveal, so much amazingness to come!
