A new entry to the top 100 follows it, Still Into You draws with Untouched and I Feel It Coming on 168 points. For Paramore, I'm very pleased to see their best hope for the future once Misery Business bows out next year going rather strong in its first final. For the comparatively ancient Untouched, it's a big new peak after they became a top 100 hangaround 2 years ago, but never quite this high. For Weeknd/Daft Punk part 2 it's a strong new entry that they have plenty of time to improve on. I now, having sort of experienced myself on this and Starboy can say I like them but they still seem so invisible as hit songs to me. Same with many of this year's hits to be quite honest. How will I do commentary next year?Β Halo has remained fairly steady the last 3 years but returns to #66 as it was four years ago, while another Lady Gaga song comes back to one off of its peak, The Edge Of Glory being the best thing from her second album. Β Move was once the clear undisputed best Little Mix song, in reality and in this competition, but the latter has now changed as it slips and Black Magic moves ahead of it. And we have our first casualty from last year's top 10 as Disturbia falls to a position that's fairly bad for it, but it seems to have settled into a trend of doing well one year and averagely the next, so could go out on a high? Don't Stop The Music also slips from a peak last year, but not as badly. Same for Paparazzi, as it makes this section a bit too crowded with popstar tracks. And can I just mention we're now 40 songs in and STILL haven't seen a 2007 song, where are they all hiding?
September 14, 20177 yr "Ghost" is the biggest casualty for me, so far. I can't believe it's not made the top 40 here before! Also a shame about "The Edge of Glory" but the final really was oversaturated with Gaga tracks as always.
September 14, 20177 yr My stomach is tensed for every section revealed, awaiting Teenage Dream to drop and for me to deflate for the year. I'm quite glad to see Disturbia not so high up this year, it is a great track but I've always found it to do a little too well in this as she has quite a few tracks that I find better than it and more relevant to her as an artist. Β
September 15, 20177 yr Crazy to see Disturbia going top 10 one year when pop classics like Paparazzi, Halo and Edge have never made it barely into the top 40 and 50.

The songs leaving us have finally shown us two of their number. Bringing up the rear of the 2007 cohort, it's the foundations. I mean, Kate Nash has managed to go out equalling her peak a few years ago and well, she's pretty much remained steady around here so that's a strong run to leave on, while Gimme More has had a revival for about the same length of time, but it's had a strong run throughout, only dipping outside of the top 100 once. This is the last year with Gimme More as Britney's highest song, Womanizer is now her best bet. One year left for Fascination which increases its peak by one place as it continues its slow but inexorable climb up the board. Win on your out, please.Β In fact, discounting three 2015 songs as King drops quite a bit from its debut, Elastic Heart climbs up over a 100 places and the enigmatically popular Sorry moves a bit more modestly, this is quite an old round with only one other song from the current decade. That song is Florence & The Machine's Shake It Out, which has recovered from its downward spiral to reach its second highest position ever, just shy of 200 points. It's just ahead of another Florence song (and is therefore her highest) but it looks clear to me that that was an almighty blip for Rabbit Heart last year. Though it wasn't around in this competition for the first two years it's been a 2009 big-hitter for most of the rest so it seems fitting to see it return to normality.Β Two other 2009 songs left, Remedy and Bulletproof, both members of that year's investment in high quality L-pop acts, and two songs I love a lot more than any of the competing Lady songs in this final. Shame their movements are a bit uninteresting.
September 15, 20177 yr OMG YAY Teenage Dream made top 50 <3 Sorry for sounding like a broken record on the Katy front but someone has to be a cheerleader these days xΒ Love that chart run for Fascination and it continues to feel just as wonderfully feel good now as it did 9 years ago. Elastic Heart is a weird one though, has never felt like a particularly big or notably really loved song, so seeing it as high as #59 is a bit shocking.
September 16, 20177 yr Hope that 'On Hold' can do better in future years as #101 would be an annoying peak for it, though I imagine it'll probably end up being pretty forgotten except by a small handful so that's probably wishful thinking. Quite surprising 'Foundations' never went higher than #56 here (that's the song that kept The xx out right?)Β The drop for 'Disturbia' *.* bai ~ Wott at 'I Feel It Coming' actually beating 'Starboy' tho ;o + yass at Lorde's nice new peak even though 91st in the final isn't too great ~Β Shall try and pay closer attention to the top 50, I always forget to check this thread when it gets to results these days!
September 16, 20177 yr Elastic Heart > Chandelier for me.Β Funny blip for Flo last year. Can't believe we're up to top 50 already! Hoping for some shockers further up.

Never again will I be able to regale everyone with the tale of how the winner fell to 4th place, and then to 108th place in the space of merely a year (because of how the rounds worked back then, coming 11th in the yearly final meant you were straight out. It's done pretty decently for itself in recent years, getting top 10 once more and being a regular presence in the final after recovery, and it leaves in 46th. Just above it, exiting on quite a low, is Call The Shots, which can celebrate 10 years straight through in the top 60 at least, but never managing to peak higher than #10. And there passes one of Girls Aloud strongest chances in this game, and certainly the best of the lot they have in this final. The other is higher however. Also peaking at #10 is the strong 2009 contender of The Fear, which always does amazingly in the yearly round then falters a bit in the final, but still always top 50.Β A rather phenomenal change in fortunes for Blind Faith last year continues this year as it just builds on its success and gets to 50th best in the decade, a wonderful result for Chase & Status and amazingly, the DnB duo aren't done yet. Blind Faith draws with the highest Little Mix song, as Black Magic moves further on up from its respectable debut last year. It's a pretty well-made popular Buzzjack hit so no surprise. Just above it, Only Girl falls some places but still has its second-highest position ever, last year was clearly a huge high for Ri, but this year isn't all that bad either.Β Speaking of Rihanna, just ahead of that, I see what I think is the first Drake song to ever sully my top 100. Not that it's the worst one, I actually kind of like Take Care and after that steadily increasing run it was probably only a matter of time. Poker Face climbs twenty places again, two more years to make it to #7. Β Formation is a new entry and now BeyoncΓ©'s highest song in this, I honestly can't recall it as that whole BeyoncΓ© era seemed a bit... not so good to me but I might recall Formation being one of the less bad ones? *gets lynched* And then #41 is another former top 10, Paper Places snuck into the top 10 two years ago but has returned to its more normal positioning of around the 40s, one more year for that as well.
September 16, 20177 yr Author Tv9YoYCKNoEΒ 40 258 2015 Grimes - Flesh Without Blood 221 ( 258 - 40 ) 39 43 2011 Adele - Rolling In The Deep 224 ( 8 - 18 - 24 - 51 - 43 - 39 ) 38 NE 2016 Christine & The Queens - Tilted / Christine 224 ( - 38 ) 37 12 2007 Amy Winehouse - Back To Black 225 ( 23 - 118 - 82 - 4 - 3 - 9 - 9 - 5 - 12 - 37 ) 36 NE 2016 Fifth Harmony (feat. Ty Dolla $ign) - Work from Home 226 ( 36 )Β Grimes' Flesh Without Blood is probably the least commercially successful song in the final, and it was probably a contender among the entire 600 when it entered last year. That doesn't matter at RecDec, we don't discriminate and Flesh Without Blood gets to take home a 'top 40 of the decade' award to put on its shelf. It really a wonderful indie-pop song and I'm delighted it's gotten this much recognition, especially when it's up against such pop titans as Rolling In The Deep, the best and most lasting Adele hit from 21 and indeed overall this time, as Adele tops out at #39, up a bit from the past two years but not quite that top 10 it entered at.Β It's drawing with a good new entry in Tilted, another wonderful pop song, a bit more accessible than Grimes, such that I almost called it indie but it isn't really, it's just a bit more... French (there's a style of French pop that's quite noticeable, I'm not sure how to describe it, it's a bit je ne sais quoi). Yes, it did have to sell out of its original language to become a hit and knowing both versions, Christine sounds a bit more naturally put together now, but the inclusion of both versions probably helped any disputes over that and it's registered a very good start in ROTD, long may it continue.Β Back To Black unfortunately exits at the lowest position it's been for many years, but it was a top 10 stalwart for 5 years before last year so it can't complain at not having a good run. It's one of the many pop giants we lose with saying goodbye to 2007, just a bit of a shame it came this early.Β Work From Home's appeal still mystifies me most out of any song in this final, while it's only my second-least favourite, I can see why people might like the one that's worse than it, I really can't here. Mystery aside, it's done rather well for itself, we'll see where this goes next year, Fifth Harmony fans xx
September 16, 20177 yr Ah, "Bleeding Love" probably doesn't get enough love on this site, it really is an excellent pop song (with even Attitude Magazine placing it above anything by Little Mix in their recent list of best songs to come out of The X Factor!) Although saying that, doesn't that make "Work from Home" the highest-placed song from an alumni? :lol:Β Surprised to see "Formation" just missing the top 40, it scream un-Buzzjack but glad to be proven wrong!

My mind compartmentalised away those songs that only have BeyoncΓ© on them, of which Formation is the highest. But no, she's on two here, one on her collaboration with Lady Gaga which continues its moving around between #20 and #50 with little sign of aging (even though to my mind it's aged very poorly), and the much better Drunk In Love from BeyoncΓ©'s BeyoncΓ©-d album, a track I always thought was rather inspiring and anthemy as it showed off one of the most lasting relationships in pop very nicely... and is a fitting tribute to the sound of being drunk in love as well. That sounds kind of right. It more than halves its peak as it becomes the REAL best-performing BeyoncΓ© song this year.Β In between those two is the wonderful Titanium, Guetta's career highlight and a song that thrust Sia into the limelight, just reaching its lowest position yet but I'm not worried, there's plenty of time for it to make up, it sounds brilliant now I haven't heard it for a while.Β Crying For No Reason was looking to become 2014's winner in the final and it's done that for two years but two songs have edged ahead of it this time as it falls out of the top 15. Still a very respectable score and I wouldn't be surprised to see it back towards the top in future years, it has a very wide appeal and won over even Katy B doubters. She's good though, isn't she?Β Finally, Pompeii moves slightly down from last year. I saw them live this year in the beautiful setting of Cornwall's Eden Project and Pompeii was a moment upon moments to end the night with. Very pleased it's still in Buzzjack's favour.

From what I hear about it, I've heard it a bit, but yes, I agree, it could do very well once it gets nominated.Β Interesting that you think Telephone has aged badly Iz, it's actually one of the few Gaga songs that I think has aged quite well - it is Bad Romance for me that hasn't aged as well even though at the time I found it glorious. Oh and YES at Grimes scraping in that top 40! Amazing result for her :wub:Β I think it's a combination of the production and the subject matter on Telephone for me, I liked it more than Bad Romance at the time but I can't bring myself to sit through it these days, ironic coming from a metalhead but those particular synths give me a headache now. Meanwhile Bad Romance is still the 7/10 'k, this is rather pleasant' pop track it always was.
September 16, 20177 yr Formation is so overrated, one of my worst BeyoncΓ© songs, glad to see Drunk In Love is higher for her.
