Poor Victoria, barely anyone cared for the album in 2001 and now they don't 18 years later

TBH she only got herself to blame, releasing it with those two front singles. WTF, two of the worst songs on the album lol

Like That and Not That Kind of Girl still bop though, as does I Wish!

I bought Victoria Beckham's debut album when it came out & thought it was pretty decent, there were some great tracks on there (the 2 singles, 'Like That', 'Girlfriend' 'Midnight Fantasy'& 'I Wish'). It was a mistake not including 'Out of Your Mind' as this did fit the Garage/Pop sound of the album & was a smash hit, the biggest of career and could have given it that slight edge.

It was a shame that the press weren't willing to give her chance as the production on this album really worked well with her vocals & she sounded pretty good on a lot of these tracks. Stopping after just 2 singles was a real waste because neither of them flopped they both went top 10 & there were quite a few potential singles on here. I even liked them 'Not Such An Innocent Girl' was a fun bop with a cool music video & 'A Mind Of It's Own' was a light track with some nice warm vocals & some beautiful melodies that show another side to her.

'Like That' or my personal fave 'Midnight Fantasy' would have been my choices for single #3, the former features some great vocals & cool Garage & slight synths which would have been a great contrast to the other 2 singles & may have given her another hit. While the latter was just more pop and very catchy & just plain fun.

Then for single #4 have 'I Wish', this was apparently gonna be the 3rd single (which I felt would have been too soon, this would served better as the final single with its nice minimal feel to it with some really fitting vocals that could have closed out the era pretty nicely.

My single run =

1. Not Such An Innocent Girl
2. A Mind of It's Own
3. Like That
4. I Wish

A couple of Melanie C anniversaries:

20 Years Ago: 27/09/99 - Melanie C - Goin' Down

14 Years Ago: 30/09/05 - Melanie C - First Day of My Life

And it's 18 years today since Victoria Beckham released her debut album!

18 years since I listened to it ALL THR TIME!!

It aged so badly and is full of 2000s sounds and rnb, of course, and thr vocals didn't age well AT ALL due to the much better autotune these days, but yeah. It was great for its moment.

'Like That' was my favourite from VB's first album. I could imagine J-Lo recording that at the time. Would have been a good follow up to NSAIG. It sounds more grown-up and credible.

All the ballads were way too cheesy for me though. I remember being shocked that AMOIO didn't bomb.

It did bomb :P

Like That was my favorite too and still is :cheer: Too bad she didn't release open your eyes it's much better than VB
I was (and still am) so disappointed with the VB album. Only more so when I listen to Open Your Eyes, which is supposed to be fan mixed and is still vastly superior.

9th October 2000 - 19 years ago, Mel B released her debut album 'Hot'!

Nice! I've been bopping to Word Up, Tell Me and Feel Me Now recently ah
Hot is a decent album it has like 5 or 6 absolute killer songs and some filler. Releasing right before Forever was an awful decision, she should have had an album out Oct or Nov '99.

Two incredible songs share the same anniversary of 13th October

1997... Spice Up Your Life by Spice Girls, 22 years ago!

2003... Maybe by Emma Bunton, 16 years ago!

Two of the most iconic Spice-related singles ever (in my mind at least :P )

I shall be bopping to both today

Age has been very kind to Spice Up Your Life.

Complete career highlight from the Spice Girls.

Today marks 23 years since the release of Say You'll Be There! (14th October 1996)

Say You'll Be There never hit the highs of so many of their other singles, an enjoyable song but not in their top tier singles.

Get your ears checked and don’t come back to this forum before you did!

Happy Birthday, Northern Star! Released 20 years ago today on October 18th, 1999! :cheer:

3x Platinum in the UK and nearly 4 million sales worldwide.

The album produced 2 #1 hits (NBTSA, I Turn To You), 2 Top 5s (Goin' Down and Northern Star) and the Top 20 (If That Were Me)

This album still sounds incredible and is one of my favourite solo spice girls records and albums of all time.

Happy Anniversary!

Happy anniversary Northern Star  As far as I’m concerned this album/era is the pinnacle of solo Spice Girls (just ahead of Schizophonic and Free Me).

It’s a shame nothing in particular has been done to celebrate this particular anniversary. I want it on vinyl
