This was such a good move it was so feel good and I loved the characters even the ones who didn't do a lot like Miles's character and the drama teacher

Ms Albright was an ICON

"Don't "Hey, Ms. Albright" me. We're not friends. You're not going to braid my hair or paint my nails. Get your ass off the table now, you sweaty, hormonal virgins. You know what? You're about to be suspended for so long that by the time it's over, you're going to be the fat, bald, unhappily married, wildly mediocre nobodies you're destined to become."

A few of us (Joseph, Bal, Maurice and myself) watched this movie at the same time as each other, last night! I believe that was my third watch of it.

I still immensely enjoyed it! It still feels quite novel that a teen/"family friendly" movie has an LGBT theme with the protagonist being a gay 17 year old. There really should be more.

Spoilers ahead, so if you still haven't watched Love, Simon and you intend to at some point... stop reading *_*

The talks he has with his mom and dad towards the end of the movie still really hit me in the feels. It's very strongly written, but it also gets to me because my own coming out to my parents (14 years ago this month :drama: ) went absolutely terribly... and even though so much time has passed & they've long since accepted me, deep down it still burns me a little bit that the initial reaction was so awful. At the time it was pretty traumatising. What I wanted... and needed... was what happened in Love, Simon. If only we lived in a world where it could be that "smooth" for everyone.

The scenes of Simon emailing Blue, and steadily falling for him, is still so cute. The final scenes on the Ferris Wheel are incredibly cheesy and full on rom-com (as far as I remember this doesn't even happen in the book), but it's still incredibly heartwarming, and the final reveal of who Blue is is very rewarding.

We didn't even realise when we decided to watch the movie together that it fell in Pride month, very fitting!

It's one of my favourite movies. I'm not going to claim that it's some kind of masterpiece, but generally I don't think romantic comedies aim to be that. For that genre of film, I do believe it is one of the very best that I've seen - and that's before considering how important it is in terms of being groundbreaking in its representation.

Great post Jay. I echo your thoughts. It's just a shame we didn't get see much of them as a couple post-ferris wheel. I feel like a LS2 could work but then again sequels can generally be a bit underwhelming.
Agree with every word Jay :michelle: I went to see this movie about two months before I came out, on my own (cringe), TWICE and told my parents I was seeing Black Panther but they eventually found out...idk how I got away with that one  It's such a lovely film, I'd recommend the book as well if you haven't read it already! The book actually has a sequel where one of the girls (can't remember her name oop) is bisexual and struggling in a similar way, I'd be interested to see a film of that.

Very well written Jay, it's also a movie of recent times I treasure just to normalise LGBTQ+ relationships in a movie that isn't condescending or patronising and just so well done. On top of all that it's just genuinely a really fun and feel good movie.

Will anyone be watching the spin off Love, Victor? Annoyed it's not on any streaming services in the UK (that I'm aware of anyway) but I'm really looking forward to it!

Brilliant post Jay! I still enjoyed the film so much, I'm really not a huge film-watcher at all so this probably doesn't mean much but it's absolutely my favourite film. It's not groundbreaking in its plot, but it didn't have to be. In fact, I think it's even more special that, for the most part, it really does stick to the rom-com tropes. It shouldn't have to be a big deal for a gay rom-com to exist!

I'm absolutely going to be watching Love, Victor! I'm so excited for it to start, feels like it's been a long time coming.

I didn't even realise this 'Love, Victor' show was a thing! :o I'm very much gonna be there for that. This film is so ridiculously feel-good and watchable, but so raw. One of my favourite movies of last decade, for sure.

I'm gonna rewatch this tonight now, actually. Seeing all the talk about it has made me want to watch it.

I need to rewatch this now there's 'Love, Victor' too.

I saw this at the cinema when it came out and I remember being so uplifted that there was a romcom with a gay character as the lead. Of course it was cutesy and aimed at a younger audience like a lot of these sorts of films are, but it was lovely to see it. I needed this film in my life 15 years ago!
