Actually really like Sign Of The Times. The length bothered me at first but adds to its appeal now, better than any of the other ex-1D member singles this year.

Agreed on Taylor (again), what an almighty lame track to be her only UK #1 to date...

Completely indifferent to the Demi song to be honest, neither like nor dislike it, it just exists!

Most of your honourable mentions are pretty naff, only ones I disagree with are Strip that Down, Bad Things and Play That Song, that is objectively awful but it does have an odd charm to it.

How in the world do you like THUNDER more than Believer?!?!?!
It's a more interesting song, and I like the pitchy chorus.

At least I agree with one track in your top ten. I don't hate Sign of the Times but I do dislike it and always skip it when I listen to the album. Dull and overlong is the best way to describe it. The rest of his music is really good though so far so that is more of an anomaly for me :o

Human is dreadful though, that would probably be my #1 in one of these so yay at it appearing in your honourable mentions :cheer:

Well I have no intention of ever listening to his album but yay, let the hate flow through you. :teresa:

I never liked Human in the first place but grew to dislike it more over time, as I expected from mass exposure.

Nah I really can't get into it, especially with the length but even so, it's just an irritating song.

People will definitely look back and think how the hell was that her first (and only?) #1 hit.

I'd feel the same about it if it weren't for Demi's irritating voice.

Well you seem to agree with most people that they disagree with my chart. Well what can ya do? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

01 Kungs vs. Cookin' On 3 Burners - This Girl

Omg YES ES!! Lush Life shoulda been no.2

My username used to be Thermo (shortened from previous name Thermometer), I've kept the name for my personal chart as a tradition.

I didn't realise you were a fan of 'This Girl' too, such a banging tune and was easily my #1 of last year! Now stay tuned to find out what tops my EOY for 2017! :P

Let's take a moment to recap this year's hate chart

1 Demi Lovato - OMG SCREEEEEECH Sorry Not Sorry puke.gif

How you even to DAAAARRREEEE!!!

It is one of the BEST songs of t year!!!!!

Why isn't the REAL SCREECH on yo hate chart and not no.1?!?!?!

Dua Kupa best be no.1 on thr EOY

Omg so right at Taylor bein 2, awful song. More pop trite. I mean, what HAS she done to say look what you made me do in t first place?! Loads of acts have their weakest songs gettin to no.1, like Coldplay, Taylor, etc

I still don't get how you don't find Demi Lovato (and Idina Menzel) screechy in the slightest? I guess you like what you like though. I quite enjoyed the "real screech" song 'What About Us', it may well make the lower end of my EOY actually.

"Dua Kupa" may well be a contender, I'm a big fan of New Rules and Scared To Be Lonely.

Taylor really is all hype little substance at the moment, which explains why she debuted at #1 only to fall down the chart at a comical rate. Same story for Harry Styles.

Mine too I think!! It's HUGE

Lol who'd you think I was? Nah I'm the same poster.

Agreed - they were made for each other and their publicity romance ways :P

Her music for he last two albums has all been hype trite pop.

Oh no you better DON'T with Screech!!!

Omg as I listen to the Spanish Let It Go AND Demi's are powerful vocals, not screech!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if the Taylor x Harry relationship was simply a publicity stunt, Taylor really knows how to grab media headlines anyway.

I'd agree for this era but she had some good songs on '1989'.

Television Series of the Year: Rick and Morty

1280x720-um8.jpg

For the second year in the EOY thread the Television Series and Film of the year will be documented. Last year's winner was South Park, although S20 came to a disappointing conclusion and I really think Donald Trump winning the Presidency ruined the season... and US politics in general. Following backlash they have gone back to standalone episodes following a minor arc rather than trying to drag one story across a whole season, and S21 has been better so far, though the show has seen better days it is still well worth a watch.

This year the award for Television Series of the Year goes to Rick and Morty. The show is now on its third season and it keeps getting bigger and better, and is arguably the most culturally relevant TV series amongst the younger generation for all the memes it has spawned. With a mix of clever writing, funny storylines, likeable characters and great animation this was easily my TV highlight of the year. Particular highlights include seeing Rick escape from intergalactic prison and taking down the federation, Rick turning himself into a pickle to avoid therapy, and the rise of Evil Morty to power in the Citadel of Ricks.

An honourable mention goes to The Big Bang Theory, as always. I still find it amusing although the show is now on its 11th season and it shows, I love the show and as a whole it's my favourite ever, but it peaked a while ago really and I would be happy to see it all tie up by the end of S12 as rumour has it. At least it got a longer run than Friends, what's the more culturally iconic sitcom now? :D A quick shout out also to Stranger Things which is a very interesting watch and has some great acting even by the children.

Hey Dan :hi: going to try and make the effort to follow all these EOY charts this year ~

A huge YES at 'Sorry Not Sorry' being your EOY hate #1! Honestly I think it's my worst song of the year as well (it seems a bit premature for 'Ding-A-Ling' as much as I spout hate for that) - I cannot believe how much the public lapped up such a screechfest :/ the vocals are honestly painful. It is criminal that it outpeaked the far superior 'Instruction' also released this year. 'Little Bit Leave It' is also extremely grating so I approve of that featuring here as well.

No me gusta at the inclusions of 'Look What You Make Me Do', 'Sign of the Times' and 'That's What I Like' however :kink: I really should say 'It's Everyday Bro' as well but dammit I kinda ironically stan  (all subsequent Jake Paul releases are also awful but not stannable in an ironic way like this one)

Expecting some great dance tunes to feature!

I like watching Rick and Morty but sometimes I find it gets too repetitive and even a little cringy. Bad cringy, too, not good cringy like HBO's Animals. (which was f***ing amazing if you ask me, despite being completely horrid ). Rick and Morty isn't a show I think I'll ever re-watch, but I probably will stay up to date with it just for the sake of it. I'm glad that you aren't in the small minority of the fanbase which is absolutely toxic though

The Big Bang Theory definitely peaked a while ago. Back before Sheldon & Amy got together/more serious and when Raj was still afraid to talk to any girls other than Penny. For a show that's supposed to be the complete epitome of nerd/geek stereotypes it's strange that all of the main guys are in relationships (or are even capable of them ). I get that it's all about character development and for the real fans a repeat of the first few seasons would get old very quickly, but it's just not for me anymore. Good on 44-year-old Jim Parsons still being able to pass as a 20/30 year old though

What are your thoughts on Seinfeld? I'd consider that to be one of the most culturally iconic sitcoms, perhaps just a little bit higher than Friends & TBBT.

Even more commenting :D Stranger Things has quickly become one of my favourite shows of the year. I only started the first season about a week ago and I'm now almost done with season 2. It's a hard show to describe really, it's absolutely nothing like I was expecting (especially season 2 episode 3/4 onwards). At first it's reminiscent of Goonies but with American Horror Story/IT vibes, and then it really becomes its own. The last episode I watched

(farm tunnel exploring with lot's of death)

reminded me a lot of the Alien franchise, as well as the second or third Tremours movie if anyone remembers them

Yes! If only Brade nominated it in Hatechart as it only had 2 nominations :o Such an irritating song.

Jake Paul in general is the worst thing to happen to the internet in 2017, I couldn't even ironically Stan ha.

Yep there will be approximately 250 great dance tunes yet to come. ;)

I don't find it cringey but that's just my sense of humour I guess. The fanbase on the other hand.. I can't at people actually rioting over that stupid McDonalds sauce just because of an inside joke. :')

Well I do like that there is character development, it's a bit of a shame that the their relationships seem to be the sole focus now but I suppose the whole premise was 'nerds attempt to get girls'. Now that they've got them (except for poor Raj and Stewart) there isn't much else they can do with it. At least they squeeze in a few geeky/science jokes here and there still.

I haven't seen much of Seinfeld, I think that would be quite difficult to get into though as I don't get the references and it wasn't laugh out loud funny for me. Same with Friends/How I Met Your Mother, and a large majority of sitcoms.

Stranger Things seems to be very much inspired by Stephen King and other 80s films from what I've gathered but I haven't really watched the source material (aside from ET and Alien, both of which I just found boring, probably for them being very much of a product of their time though I get that they are classic/influential films).

Film of the Year: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

Rogue_One,_A_Star_Wars_Story_poster.png

I'm not a Star Wars fanboy, honest! But for the second year running the award for Film of the Year goes to the Star Wars franchise, stay tuned for next year when I probably award it to 'The Last Jedi'. With 'Rogue One' being a spin-off I didn't expect it to be as great as 'The Force Awakens'. And it wasn't, but it was still amazing, with stunning visual effects, a great character development and storyline, it did more than the job it needed to keep us hungry during the two year gap between Episodes VII and VIII.

I've decided also to rank all the films I've seen in the past 12 months. As always the Marvel franchise does well with great films from Thor and Guardians as expected (though I didn't expect Thor to be the better of the two!), and also Logan even if I'm not into the X Men as much as the Guardians or Avengers. Then we have DC Comics surprising with a good film in Wonder Woman, and I'm yet to see Justice League but hopefully that is also of a similar quality. We also finally got the finale of the Planet of the Apes trilogy as well as the Kingsman sequel. Then from there it goes downhill a bit, Blade Runner 2049 could've been in the good tier but it was too long and much of it was not needed. And below that a few films my parents were insistent on watching, which still had their good bits (particularly liked the educational part to Hidden Figures) but overall not really my type of film. And then the disappointment of the year in Kong: Skull Island finishes at the bottom.

On another note I didn't ever get round to watching the nth Spiderman reboot, and from what I've heard it's not really worth it and it's all been done before, but tell me if I'm wrong. Or if any other great films passed me by.

GREAT

01. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

02. Thor: Ragnarok

03. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

GOOD

04. Logan

05. Wonder Woman

06. War for the Planet of the Apes

07. Kingsman: The Golden Circle

MEH

08. Blade Runner 2049

09. Hidden Figures

10. Arrival

11. Kong: Skull Island

Album of the Year: Avicii - Avīci (01)

268x0w.jpg

Who honestly didn't see this coming? So yeah Avicii releases new material finally and it's amazing. Only problem is there's only 18 minutes of material on it! Although we were promised a second EP by now too, when is that coming?!? :drama: There is the classic Avicii sound to it but also signs of him progressing as an artist such as 'Lonely Together', which is a direction I'd be happy for him to continue further if it gives him the big hit singles he needs.

Now is the part where I would normally go through the track listing and pick out highlights from the non-singles and all, but I can reveal now that the entire EP will appear in the singles EOY. So I'll be reviewing those as and when they come.

If you don't count 'Avīci (01)' as a proper album then my favourite goes to Calvin Harris' 'Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1' (seems to be a trend of albums I like being suffixed with the number one). I wasn't sure at first but grew to really like Calvin's re-invention as an artist and he really did serve some summery bops this year.

Lmao I just saw Thor: Ragnarok yesterday and I was so impressed  Chris and Tom were amazing but Tessa’s character SLAYED MY ENTIRE EXISTENCE.

Thermo's hot hits | EOY 2017 | THE FORMAT

Here is how it will work this year. Whilst the points formula from last year works well, I have experimented with the formula to create an even more accurate representation of my top songs of the year, taking into account both chart points and playcount. The points will be expressed as 'sales' totals for the previous 12 months.

Here's some facts then:
• 40 songs in the top 250 failed to reach my weekly top 40, with the lowest peaking song to make the list being a #69. Only one of these singles will appear in the top 100 of the year, however.
• The list includes 17 number ones, including songs that went to #1 in 2016 as well as 2017.
• The artist with the most appearances is Calvin Harris, who has eleven. This includes nine of the ten tracks featured on 'Funk Wav Bounces Vol 1', the only one of those to miss the cut is 'Prayers Up'.

Similarly to last year, the top 250 songs of the year will be counted down, though more attention to detail will be paid for the top 100.

*Bad Blood playing in the background*

Yeah I really liked her. Much better character than the other lead female (Heller) too, though the villain characters in the Marvel franchise usually aren't all that great the heroes make up for it (and Loki who seems to be simultaneously both)

I loved Rogue One! The whole storyline and the character set were brilliant.

What a surprise Album of the Year! :kink:

Yeah this, Disney are doing such a good job with the Star Wars franchise, it's better than ever at the moment.

Really surprising I know. :o
