New music would certainly be good for them. They could mix a few of the new tracks in with the classic stuff and make future tours more interesting.

I think they'd almost certainly have a number 1 album, obviously the days of number 1 hit singles are pretty much gone but Headlines reaching 11 ended their top 10 run anyway.

Steps really delivered with Tears on the Dancefloor and All Saints delivered with Red Flag.

Come on girls.

Do we think it'll be archive footage along with a voiceover or do we think all five will talk to the camera like the previous documentaries?

Once this airs we'll have docs in the 90s, 00s, 10s and 20s! :yahoo:

I do like how they keep doing documentaries. But this seems to be a Channel 4 led programme, not necessarily their own. Let's wait and check the details when they have a broader release, but if it's to be aired soon, it might not be with their input.

UNLESS they have been working hard behind closed doors to make something happen. Whilst I would love that, Im not sure it's their thing. But I am happy to be surprised!!

It's been commissioned for their 25th anniversary. So it's likely to be aired 2021

Sorry not been around guys family bereavement.

Victoria wants to be involved in the non touring stuff next year. It was a meeting to discuss options with Victoria. For the first time in a long time team Spice seem agreeable and happy.

This is just my assumption (not the above what I'm about to say) that the 2019 tour did wonders for the other 4 and their status in the band. Up until those tickets went on sale there was a feeling it might not work without Victoria or sell without her, which it can and did. It took a lot of power away from Victoria over the bands future. So now they are on a more level footing and the 4 are going to tour no matter what so Victoria isn't the deciding factor. I think that has taken pressure off her and them and the 5 seem happy that Victoria can be involved next year in other projects.

I did message Spice Girls Net a few weeks ago to say Victoria wants to be involved just not with the tour or the commitment of it.

I think I've said before if all things go according to plan (tour dates not pushed back or one girl dropping out) then next year or so will feel like the most complete and engaging 'era' since 2000. #friendshipneverends

They should release something but work with the best ones like Ed Sheeran or someone in that level.

Ed Sheeran?  That would honestly be the worst idea ever.

I honestly don't expect or even want them to release new music and I don't really understand why people are still pushing for this. We all know Victoria will never be involved, so whether they release something it won't be the same. Music has changed A LOT during the last twenty years as well, ofcourse they sell out tours because of the nostalgic part and people love their music and legacy, but they would flop hard with new music. Even the likes of Madonna and Kylie, who have had massive success after the 90's, struggle to get a hit single and it would be the same (or worse) for the Spice Girls. They want to protect their legacy, which is iconic, and new music could only damage this. Just look at Headlines.

There is so much positive buzz around the girls again, they are being celebrated for their iconic status and have truly earned their place in the pop history books so new stuff could only damage this. You can also imagine all the tabloid headlines.

Headlines peaking at #11 in the UK passed by without causing much fuss tbh, in terms of the media (if anything it was the fan base that were more vocally upset & critical). Ultimately it didn’t damage their legacy! In fact nothing has so far. Not even their musical, which was meant to be their Mamma Mia moment but ended up being a critical & commercial disaster, caused them any long term damage.

Spice Girls seem to be the only music act that get some fans worrying that new music will somehow undo what the group achieved and damage their status as icons in music, but I don’t really understand this. As a fan, new music would make their reunion even more interesting, exciting and fulfilling.

I don’t think there’s anywhere near the same level of expectation and scrutiny when it comes to singles chart positions nowadays, especially not for legacy artists. The Pussycat Dolls - React reached #28 this year and is regarded as being a hit. Westlife achieved 14 #1 singles, but Hello My Love reaching #13 was considered to be excellent for them. Their most recent album sold a fraction of their heyday albums (it went gold, but they previously achieved numerous multi-platinum albums) but this wasn’t damaging for them. I’m sure the same would apply to Spice Girls.

New songs would be welcome.

But would need: interest, confidence, motivation, resources, time and planning.

- Would it meet their standards?

But when you're in your 40s, focus tends to be about generativity versus stagnation. (Leaving a legacy opposed to experiencing alienation from relationships and the community.)

In your 20s and 30s, the focus is usually on intimacy versus isolation.

(Also applicable to friendships and relationships that are romantic.)

Then there's types of love: lust, romance and attachment.

Like the girls, their fans who are up to 15 to 20 years younger than them, are now in their 20s, 30s and 40s.

A new song Like Denying Or Stop would be great they should work with their old people just another album like spice world would work perfectly with or without Victoria

They *did* work with the same people they used to and tried to create new music with the same vibe. The result was Headlines and Voodoo which might be nice songs but they are very subpar to the standard we are used to. That whole team is quite dated nowadays. Biff hasnt done much great stuff (even if Who I Am is Mel C's best single in a long while).

Personally, I think a fresh take on thier sound rather than replicating it might be the best thing to do. Maybe get Biff and Absolute involved but with other producers in the mix to freshen things up would be great!

No need to try and replicate sounds like before. It worked for the nostalgia of the tour, but when it comes to new stuff, focus on the present and future. Where you are at as artists, not where you used to be.

I think the biggest issue with them recording and releasing new music is the fact that they'd need to spend a few months in the studio to just see where they are musically these days and learn how to properly vibe as a recording group again. They can't just go in and record a bunch of songs like no time has passed, which is what they did with Headlines and Voodoo. But I'm not sure any of them are ready for that sort of commitment.

That is a very good point and I completely agree. They need that time to reconnect musically and find their feet again. Headlines, Voodoo and Song For Her were crap because they didnt ring true at all. You could tell those songs were disconnected from the group as a whole.

I think this was a bit of the case with Forever too. Some of them werent really part of that process, only adding things 'later' or whatever. Whilst with Spice and Spiceworld, they were together doing the writing and recording all the time.

That commitment will be the ultimate challenge for them, I think.

I think Song For Her would've been a great addition to their discography had it been finished which it obviously wasnt.

The bridge/chorus of Song For Her is great.

Song for Her sounded like they were replicatiing a sound that was not very close to theirs and also was already a few years too late. Similar to how Give You What You Want sounded like a 5ive song but already quite dated by the time Forever was released. Plus, both have terrible - terrible - lyrics.

Im glad neither got released cos they sound lost in it.

Get the four of them back in the studio without the pressure of releasing anything, let them breathe and get their feel for what they want and are inspired by first.

I think they could easily get a Westlife-sized hit, but because they’re a female pop act it’s not gonna be as easy. Also, this sounds obvious but it can’t be on the level of Headlines, the reason React and Hello My Love has sustained chart runs is they obviously clicked with the public beyond first week reunion hype. If they put in the effort which I’m sure they will then I wouldn’t be shocked at a low top 10 hit.

If the song was a banger like BOIM it would work and be a hit.

A film EP would be perfect !!!

They can then add 3/4 songs to the tour and ditch the disco and mix it up a bit !!

The difference between the Spice Girls and other acts is that the Spice Girls are all about numbers & statistics. No other group boasts about its gigantic past success like the girls do.

For me the main reason they wont make new music is they don't want to commit that amount of time or effort into the spice girls that doesn't guarantee success or money. Writing, recording, filming music videos, promoting all takes loads of time.

The last thing they would want is another Forever the project dumped as soon as the album is released. The best bet of new music is tying it in with another project (world tour or annimated movie) so the main promotion will be those projects that push the album indirectly and keep the album campaign going.

If they ever did new music for me it would have to be released a month before a tour. A blitz of promo on release then the touring being the promo for it.
