I don't think that's a very good name for him.. Davy lamps can be quite bright.

Hah! I like to think the minimum requirement for a politician should be a Supertrouper. Davy Lamp is an archaic dim light that starts on your wick and runs out of steam after a short while...

Brexit talks CANCELLED by Brussels until the UK presents an agreement that does not impinge on the good Friday deal.

Mad May has two options:L capitulate or Hard Brexit.

This might be the beginning of the end for Brexit ... unless the propaganda sheets (NEVER using the word press as they do not report on real news) go all out trying to say the GFA is now 'past it'. That is the ONLY reason they have been attacking it recently. Bunch of cowards/ bullies. Oh, there is no more violence. That means we can do what we like!!! No. It does not mean that, bullies.

meanwhile John Redwood (longtime Hard Brexiteer getting 180k a year as an investment advisor) has advised his clients to get their money out of the UK before the disaster strikes. Inspiring confidence and calling himself a massive liar of many years standing. Not that I didn't already know that.

The full impact assessment of the government experts has been published. Extra trade from USA 0.3% GDP (assuming that is achievable and Trump drops the tarriffs promised), Asia/Australasia 0.4% extra GDP. Sundries add up to about 1% extra. Versus a 5-10% drop depending on which scenario the UK goes for.

When is the government going to be honest and give people a choice? This is going to hurt the economy, we all know it, so you now have to signal that you accept that in order for us to leave the EU Hard Brexit. Or we stay in the Single Market. Or we don't leave at all now the world is looking distinctly trade-wars-ey as that would be suicide.

It's because they repeated fascist mantras like, 'werrl of the perplerr', when it's clear it was anything BUT, 'the perplerr herrv sperkerrn' etc.

Braindead, moronic, fascist statements, to be sure, but also statements that dug them a hole they can't get out of. They can't go BACK on those words or they'll seem as big liars even to the Brexiteers, instead of just half the population as stands.

A rabid minority and minority Tory gov is forcing this through.

If only she WOULD capitulate....! Though she has had her botty smacked, told to stop bollocking about and sort out the Irish border like you signed up to in December. effectively trying to make the first written agreement not worth the paper it's written on is not a good way of inspiring credibility on any other negotiations and the Tories willingness to throw the toys out of the pram if they don't get their way as a sort of blackmail. You don't leave the golf club and then demand they give you free access or else they will break down the boundary fence and let anything in when you've already got a legal agreement that shows you own half of it and are obliged to keep it in good repair....

They do though stick it to the government. The EU tells Hammond to stick to explaining what is good for the UK and the EU will explain what is good for the EU. Pow! This is all about the wishful-thinking banking service agreement that was never going to happen (see my earlier helpful translation of May's crappy speech). The point of EU legislation is to create a level-playing-field so no-one gets any unfair advantages. Not being in the EU and having to stick to EU rules and rulings would be an unfair advantage. banks in London can move to the EU and take the cash and jobs with them. It's in their interest and the UK has f***-all say in it. Our biggest money-earners will vote with their feet and devastate the UK.

PS...have to add this tweet: :winner:

Robert Peston Retweeted Matthew Holehouse

"This makes me want to retire as a journalist, because I have been desperate to put Brexit in a simple nutshell, and the bloomin’ PM of Luxembourg has done it perfectly. Impossible to better. Sigh"

Lux PM Bettel: "They were in with a load of opt-outs. Now they are out, and want a load of opt-ins.”

No, he's not that bright.

Amazing news. A Tory MEP (Dan Hannan) has finally answered a question about what EU-imposed laws he would like to abolish. Just two slight problems. First, he cited the "Provisions for Child Restraint Systems In Cars:, i.e. a measure aimed at reducing the number of children killed in road accidents. Second, the law has nothing to do with the EU.
My god that 47% is brainwashed beyond help

How 16% can call it 'well' when the EU are basically dictating everything and the incompetence of David Davis discussed above? They REALLY are deluded, or Dan Hannan as it is now defined.

The rules dictate that the EU have the upper hand as soon as a country invokes Article 50. However, Theresa "strong and stable" May decided that pandering to the tabloids was more important than anything else so she went ahead and invoked it. Just to make her look even more stupid she then decided to write off two months of the negotiating period by calling an unnecessary election.

They be an ABBA fan? :w00t:

I never thought NI would be the biggest issue iro Brexit.

When is the government going to be honest and give people a choice?

Where were you on 23/6/16?

Anyway, the public are a lot more optimistic than me it seems:

I'm not to bothered how people think it is going, as long as it *is* going.

I understand that Fullfact is just an independent fact checker, so highly reliable.

More so than the Guardian? :teresa:

Hannan is the dishonest liar that said during the campaign that leaving didnt mean leaving the Customs Union and Single Market, then immediately demanded it meant a Hard Brexit after the result. So a 100% proven liar. That he doesn't actually KNOW what is in the EU legislation, and isn't bothered about child deaths comes as no surprise. Nasty piece of propaganda-pusher whenever the news networks want a right-wing rentaquote (usually when no sane right-leaning person would stick their neck out making obvious lies).

Did I mention Hannan is a liar? A filthy rotten liar? I can say he's a liar because he's a liar and he can't say he isn't a liar because he's a liar. It's on film. Him being a liar.

A Supertrouper is a brand of concert lighting (it's in the lyrics and the video)

Well you were mistaken about NI. It was another key peice of the referndum glossed over by the lying Leavers. Liars all. Filthy rotten propaganda-pushing liars as we Remainers all commented on here at the time. Nice to be right about the stinking liars. Did I mention they were liars?

They were lied to. Now we know the facts and can have an honest campaign, including the forthcoming world trade war. Afraid people will change their mind when faced with facts and not lies? Of course you are.

So you dont care if getting a terrible result destroys the UK economy as long as you get your aim? Fanatical much.

tweets can sum things up beautifully:

Northern Ireland border situation re: lies by lying Brexiteers:

“The EU is only looking out for themselves. They need a deal more than we need a deal.”

EU:

“We’re voluntarily freezing trade talks until you can come up with a border solution that won’t f*** over your own citizens.”

They were lied to. Now we know the facts and can have an honest campaign, including the forthcoming world trade war. Afraid people will change their mind when faced with facts and not lies? Of course you are.

Of course I am - if this doesn't come off, we many have to wait another 40 years for our next change to escape!

So you dont care if getting a terrible result destroys the UK economy as long as you get your aim? Fanatical much.

But we have different ideas of what a 'terrible result' would be.

No. YOU have absolutely no lower limit to what you consider to be a terrible result so fanatical are you. You would rather break up the UK, see everyone struggling for decades and risk screwing an entire generation of young people who would have to suffer the consequences long after you are dead, rather than admit you were wrong. That is a definition of fanatical. Forcing something you want because you dont care about the consequences for a principle that you won't benefit anyone, including you, in any way that you have managed to explain yet.
