This year's EOY for 2017 will be a countdown of the Top 50 songs I have been loving collated from my playlist that I post in the Personal Charts Forum. The full Top 50 will begin next weekend, but I first wanted to highlight some of my favourite albums from this past year.

Pete Tong & The Heritage Orchestra (conducted by Jules Buckley) - Classic House

Released: 25/11/16

Singles: 'Right Here, Right Now', 'Waiting All Night', 'Your Love', 'Lola's Theme'

Stemming from 2015's popular Ibiza Prom where Pete Tong teamed up with Jules Buckley and The Heritage Orchestra to bring classical takes on huge dance anthems to The Royal Albert Hall, an album followed suit at the end of 2016. Over the festive season, the album was promoted on TV and reduced in price on various platforms resulting in it claiming the #1 spot at the start of 2017 and this is when the album caught my eye.

Blending an orchestra with dance music is a sound which appears to work well, just look at Clean Bandit's success, but here the song choices and production throughout the entire album are just pure genius and create a genuinely stunning album to listen to from start to finish. With new takes on old classics, such as Katy B covering Inner City's 'Good Life' to artists returning to re-record songs they've featured on in the past including original vocalist Cookie re-appearing for a new version of The Shapeshifters' 'Lola's Theme', plus Ella Eyre ('Waiting All Night') and John Newman ('Feel The Love'). There is not one dull moment on this album as it blends seamlessly between instrumentals such as 'Pjanoo', 'Insomnia' and 'Porcelain' and vocal tracks.

And it doesn't look like things are about to stop anytime soon as they're touring again now ahead of the next album 'Ibiza Classics' due out the first week of December; an album which will probably be featured here again this time next year!

London Grammar - Truth Is A Beautiful Thing

Released: 09/06/17

Singles: 'Rooting For You', 'Big Picture', 'Oh Woman Oh Man', 'Non Believer', 'Hell To The Liars'

It's been 4 years since London Grammar released their debut album and that now feels like a lifetime ago :drama: but on New Year's Day this year we were treated to their return! The return of Hannah's haunting vocals, the return of their stunning production and news of a new album being prepared. There's no hiding that London Grammar are very much one of my favourite groups around at the moment and this album certainly solidifies my high opinion and huge love for them. For me, the album is an improvement on their debut, but their debut has some of their best singles released to date there's no denying that. Their take on indie/alternative music is impressive with nodes of trip-hop scattered throughout the album to bring it to life along with the intensity of Hannah's voice. Hats off to Ministry of Sound for taking a chance on these guys and helping bring their music to life and continue that journey because it's a journey I'm prepared to go on for the long run.

Bicep - Bicep

Released: 01/09/17

Singles: 'Aura', 'Glue', 'Vale'

Bicep are a production duo who have been around for a few years now but only really popped up on my radar earlier this year when news of their debut album release was announced. For me, this album encapsulates the current underground music scene whilst also showing off the duo's impressive production abilities. With impressive instrumentals and subtle sparse vocals that compliment each other, the album is a collection of raw, energetic dancefloor ready tracks that really is worth checking out if you haven't done so already.

Not listened to any of those albums, though I really should get round to Pete Tong as the concept is interesting.

lewis your taste is amazing judging by your plug.dj picks and some of your BJSC entries so I'm hyped for this! <3

'Big Picture' and 'Rooting For You' from 'Truth Is A Beautiful Thing' are both lush  need to check out more stuff by BICEP also as 'JUST' is wondrous!

Last Year's EOY #1

KDA feat. Tinashe - Just Say

26 weeks on the playlist

I was a little disappointed in the London Grammar album :o I was a very big fan of their debut album but this seemed a lot more dreary and unexciting in comparison (it could have done with a "Metal & Dust" type of track to inject a bit of excitement in the middle to be honest) but Hannah is such a gorgeous vocalist so there were definitely high moments still. My favourite track on the album would have to be "Oh Woman Oh Man"

Looking forward to this Lewis!

The London Grammar album is really good love the singles Big Picture, Non Believer and Oh Woman Oh Man! and Hell To The Liars too!

#50. Sammy Porter - A Bit Patchy

Taking on sampling the original 70s recording of Apache, Sammy Porter updates the instrumental into a proper house banger, making a solid start to the countdown.

#49. Jus Now & Dismantle feat. Busy Signal - Fire (Spotie)

A very recent release, but one I've been loving in its instrumental form for some time now, now with added vocal vibes from Jamaican singer Busy Signal.

#48. Denney & Mekon feat. Roxanne Shante - What's Going On?

Denney previously graced this EOY chart back in 2015 reaching the Top 5 with 'Low Frequency'. This year, he's taken on Mekon's original track from 2000 and updated it with a house-y twist.

#47. Tom Zanetti feat. Karen Harding - More & More

Sleepin' is Cheatin' frontman Tom Zanetti followed up his 2016 smash single 'You Want Me' with everyone's radio favourite Karen Harding (:kink: we love you Karen). With a big bass vibe in a similar vein to his previous singles, Tom appears to have found a sound that works well for him.

#46. Cedric Gervais feat. Digital Farm Animals & Dallas Austin - Touch The Sky

A Dance Anthems discovery from Radio 1, this firmly cemented itself as one of my favourite tracks over the summer period this year... though I can't help but think of Martin Solveig every time I hear a song with this type of production.

#45. Robin Schulz feat. James Blunt - OK

Nobody expected this from Robin Schulz, but oddly it appears to work, even if James Blunt can be a bit marmite at times. Fantastic drop and catchy chorus!

#44. Pete Tong with The Heritage Orchestra feat. Becky Hill - Sing It Back

The first album from Pete is my favourite album of the year, as featured in the above post, and I was certainly excited when the second album was announced. 'Sing It Back' is the lead single from 'Ibiza Classics' which is finally out this week (IT'S AMAZING). Becky Hill (whose voice is f***ing awesome) takes on Moloko's 1999 smasher and brings it to life again with a fantastic orchestral production.

#43. John Gibbons feat. Ai - Sunglasses In The Rain

Another of the more recent tracks to feature in the chart, John Gibbons returns this time with an original track using his stunning poppy take on house music. Great catchy vocals on this one which just makes me feel good each time I hear it.

_______________________________________________________

#42. High Contrast feat. Boy Matthews - Questions

Our first D&B track of the chart from way back at the start of the year when High Contrast was preparing to release his album 'Night Gallery'. An interesting and uplifting take on D&B with some great vocals thrown in too.

#41. Bicep - Vale

Bicep's debut album is also featured above as one of my favourite albums of the year and this is definitely my favourite song from said album. It's euphoric and edgy with a lot of groove.

Love 'Sunglasses In The Rain', John Gibbons just keeps putting out the bangers.

'Fire (Spotie)' is one that could be big for me in the coming weeks but has only just entered my chart.

Also quite enjoyed 'What's Going On' 'OK' and 'Questions' and 'Sing It Back' sounded good from the X-Factor live performance of it.

#40. iLL BLU - Tribalist

No YouTube or Soundcloud :( so here's the Spotify and Apple Music links.

We've had a couple of incarnations of this song this year, but it's all about the original tribal instrumental for me!

#39. Mura Masa feat. Charli XCX - 1 Night

Intriguing productions from this guy have surfaced over the past few years, with 'Love$ick' now being a firm favourite following its feature in last year's EOY. This year, Mura Masa released an album and preceding it was this wonderfully interesting track with some catchy vocals from Charli.

38. Seeb & Greg Holden - Boys In The Street

The tropical vibes continue for the production trio, this time taking on the Greg Holden track 'Boys In The Street' containing an emotional account of a father accepting his son as being gay. The production shouldn't work for this, but oddly it does, despite the screechy bits :P

#37. Alan Walker - Alone

Released right at the end of 2016, this song had some longevity on my playlist and so earns its place here. Noonie Bao is the vocalist on this fantastic track which continued to trademark Alan Walker's sound which works really well for him.

_______________________________________________________

36. Martin Solveig feat. ALMA - All Stars

An absolute travesty this song did nothing officially considering how much of a rising artist ALMA is, however I love it (and so do most of Buzzjack) and that's all that matters. All Stars is a catchy bop with a great drop to boot.

_______________________________________________________

#35. Franky Rizardo - Same Man

One of my favourite dance tracks from 2006 was unexpectedly brought back to life with Franky Rizardo turning Till West & DJ Delicious' 'Same Man' into an absolute house banger.

_______________________________________________________

#34. PBH & Jack Shizzle x The Time Frequency feat. Tahira Jumah - Higher

Sampling the track 'Real Love' from 1993, PBH & Jack Shizzle have shown they are a production team that are worth noticing and keeping an eye on, absolutely love this one!

_______________________________________________________

#33. Martin Garrix & Dua Lipa - Scared To Be Lonely

Martin has been very hit and miss since changing his sound over the past year, but 'Scared To Be Lonely' is one of those slow burners that has earned my affection with Dua Lipa's emotional vocal and great production throughout.

_______________________________________________________

#32. Toddla T feat. Andrea Martin - Magnet

Toddla T's album 'Foreign Light' took me by surprise as being one of the best dance albums released this year (justice for 'Beast' in BJSC!) and 'Magnet' is definitely a highlight featuring the great vocals of recurrent guest artist Andrea Martin.

#31. Kah-Lo - Fasta

This could genuinely be mistaken for a track released by Inner City or Technotronic back in the late 80s/early 90s! Kah-Lo has captured the essence of using a strong production element and running with it to make a solid dance track that just works and doesn't get tiresome.

Good batch there, I actually prefer the Glowie vocal version of Tribalist but both are fab.

Alone is superb, definitely went a bit under the radar after his 2 bigger previous tracks.

Love STBL too, Garrix got that one spot on.
