Olivia Holt - Sad Song (RJ Remix) | 1-2-6-8-17-22-31-35-X (8 weeks) 59 Ed Sheeran - Shape of You | 38-1-3-6-10-15-22-28-25-23-33-X-40-X (12 non-consecutive weeks) 60 Rita Ora - Your Song | 7-10-16-24-21-26-33-39-X-20-27-X (10 non-consecutive weeks) We're really getting to the nitty gritty now, with just two sections left before I start revealing songs one at a time! First up here is woman of the moment Rita Ora, whose comeback track Your Song got off to a bit of a muted start at first, coming just a week after a huge clear-out which saw five new tracks in the top 5. Most of them didn't budge much in week 2, so Rita had to settle for a #7 debut. Your Song nevertheless ended up with a decent run and I return to it loads still, and it earns the title of highest non-top 5 hit in my countdown!! :D It's dominated the whole year, and whilst Ed Sheeran's Shape of You saw a similar #1 peak in my chart much like the UK and probably the entire world, it didn't have the same longevity, departing my top 40 before it had departed the #1 spot in the UK. Nevertheless, I really enjoy it and it hasn't actually gotten old for me yet despite the overplay. Another two #1s follow just above, both being BJSC entries of mine. We the Kings' Sad Song was a discovery I made when scouring Spotify for entries, and I really enjoyed both the original and the remix from RJ. It was the remix I sent ultimately, editing the music video to fit the length/vibe of the remix as well. I adore the emotion of the song and video, and I knew I had to send it to the contest. It gave me a qualifier, and gave the group their first top 10 hit, and first #1, in my chart. It blocked Shawn Mendes and Charlie Puth from # with their new singles, although both tracks feature higher in my EOY...oops! My entry the following month was the pop banger Dance Like Nobody's Watching from Serbian singer Marija, which also soared to #1 in my chart, but annoyingly it didn't qualify. The chorus is irresistible imo, a brilliant singalong carefree pop track! From one song contest to another... the Eurovision Song Contest! The week following the contest saw a track from the contest hitting my #1 spot - that of Bulgaria's Kristian Kostov. Beautiful Mess achieved an impressive 2nd place in the contest, and whilst I hadn't heard it before I watched the semi finals, I fell in love with it quickly. It's actually only the second highest track from Eurovision in the contest, as one more is still to come, despite not matching Kristian's #1 peak! Although it didn't make it to Eurovision, Benjamin Ingrosso had hoped to compete for Sweden with Good Lovin'. This is Benjamin's third and final track to appear in this year's countdown, and peaked at #3 in my weekly chart, behind another two Melodifestivalen tracks from FO&O and Anton Hagman (both still to come). Anton also features at the top of this section, as his follow-up single Somebody to Love shows up, proving it was a respectable follow-up to Kiss You Goodbye with its #3 peak! Double girl group members now, and we kick off with Nadine Coyle's triumphant return to pop *.* The former leader of the Girls Aloud pack returned to work with Xenomania on banger Go to Work, which has single-handedly reduced unemployment to a record low (this has yet to be confirmed but it's inevitable, right?). The track was what Nadine should've released when she originally went solo, as much as I enjoy Insatiable, and it made Nadine the third Girls Aloud member to achieve a solo #1, following Cheryl and Sarah (Nicola would undoubtedly have scored at least two #1s has I started my chart just months earlier!). Camila Cabello launched her solo career after departing Fifth Harmony with Sia-pennded Crying in the Club. Whilst it could literally be a song off a Sia album, I really enjoyed the track and the accompanying performance at the VMAs. It's a shame that she's swept it under the carpet and hasn't opted to include it on her debut album, because I think it would've been a fab addition even as a bonus track! Finally, we have one of this year's surprise chart hits! Lady Gaga's The Cure became her third #3 peaker following its surprise earlier this year, matching that of Applause and Perfect Illusion. It therefore became her joint highest peaker, as she's yet to score a top 2 hit. The Cure has become a Gaga highlight for me, as it ditches the frills and OTT-ness of many of her previous singles to create what is simply a fantastic pop song. The hook is catchy, the production is accessible and I was so pleased to see the public connecting with this track. Whilst I love Gaga's individuality, I think less can often be more and she proved it with The Cure. Recommendation wW_glv7KpFM

Julia Michaels - I Miss You | 7-8-2-2-… (4+ weeks) 50 Marcus & Martinus - Make You Believe in Love | 3-5-6-10-16-23-31-… (7+ weeks) Now for the final section of 10, before I start revealing songs one-by-one! Norwegian twins Marcus & Martinus have been on my radar for a while but they surprised me with Make You Believe in Love, a really solid pop track produced by RedOne. It gave them their first top 10 hit in my chart, peaking at #3, before leading to a #1 album! They're one of two BJSC entries from Jáhq in this section actually, as In Real Life's Eyes Closed appears just three spots above. In Real Life are a five-piece boyband formed on American show Boy Band, hosted by Rita Ora and judged by Emma Bunton, Timbaland and Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys. The five lucky contestants were Chance, Michael Conor, Sergio, Drew and Brady, and In Real Life released their first single Eyes Closed immediately after their win. It's quite typical boyband in its lyrics, updated with current production and the result is a hugely catchy track with plenty of replayability. Making their first appearance of two, Clean Bandit's I Miss You appears at #49. Given more time, I think this could've finished even higher, as it's not gotten old for me yet at all. While it brought an end to their #1 streak of Tears, Rockabye and Symphony, I Miss You nevertheless charted at a respectable #2 in my chart behind Rita Ora's Anywhere. It's Julia Michaels' biggest hit to date, and her highest track of three in my countdown. Also making her last appearance is Taylor Swift, whose comeback track Look What You Made Me Do finishes at a disappointing #46. To compare to her previous lead singles, We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together made it to #4 in my EOY, while Shake It Off made #21. Despite its catchiness and amazing video, LWYMMD tailed off very quickly for me. It re-grew on me when the album came out though, and I'm glad to say that I'm back to enjoying it whenever I listen. Double Selena Gomez in this section, as what seemed to be a cancelled single Fetish appears first at #48. Understandably, Selena had to cancel promotion for her music while she was unwell, meaning Fetish never got the push it deserved. Under better circumstances, I think it could've been another substantial hit for her, it's like the sister of Good For You, my personal favourite Selena track! Her Kygo collaboration It Ain't Me also appears in this section. It was unlucky in peaking at #3, behind two new entries from FO&O and Anton Hagman (both still to feature), but it was instant love for me. Selena sounds brilliant, and I'm a sucker for Kygo production. He gets it spot on here and I was pleased to see it become such a big hit in the charts! It Ain't Me is the highest appearance of both Kygo and Selena. One of the first #1s of the year, Daniel Skye's ON scored two weeks at the top in some of the quietest weeks of the year (while I binge-watched Teen Wolf :kink:). ON is my favourite of Daniel's songs to date, and sounded like his best chance of getting a hit, but it wasn't meant to be. It blocked two different tracks from #1 - Joel Adams' Die For You (which featured as low down as #176!) and Manel Navarro's Do It for Your Lover (which is still to come, oops). The Vamps are one spot above with their first #1 of the year Middle of the Night. While I really liked Middle of the Night at first, it unfortunately got old rather quickly. Nevertheless it's a solid track from the boys and gave them their tenth #1 single! They still have two further tracks to appear, while it's by far Martin Jensen's best performing track. FO&O's album track Buzzkill has been on a rollercoaster ride, being performed by the group on tour for a while but never seeing a release. Finally, it was included on their self-titled second album earlier this year, despite being recorded before original member Olly Molander left the group (they changed name from The Fooo Conspiracy to FO&O because of this). Buzzkill is a highly energetic track, packed full of hooks, and it was an instant favourite when I listened to their album. Finally, we finish the section with Jax Jones' Instruction, his second and final appearance. Instruction was unlucky to peak at #2, behind George Ezra's Don't Matter Now which has appeared already at #122, so that's one of my chart regrets this year. Instruction is a brilliant track packed full of energy, and Demi sounds brilliant on it. It's Demi's second appearance in the countdown, with two more still to go! Stefflon Don makes her final appearance. Recommendation 2sD93JHlH4k
January 13, 20187 yr 'Instruction', 'It Ain't Me', 'I Miss You', 'The Cure', 'Call On Me' and 'September Song' are my faves from 41-80. 2017 really turned out to be the year for ex-disney princesses to turn to dance and the results were surprisingly great.
January 13, 20187 yr Instruction is such a banger :music: so nice to hear a dance track with so much energy in the chart nowadays Nice to see I Miss You here too, I think it easily stands up to the likes of Rockabye and Symphony and I think I've even gone on to prefer it to the latter, happy to see it's still a big hit in the UK after it wasn't looking good at first
January 13, 20187 yr "Instruction", "It Ain't Me", "I Miss You", "Crying In The Club", "Shape Of You" and "Your Song" are all great songs!
January 13, 20187 yr Meh, I don’t really get In Real Life. I’ll just stick to Why Don’t We :P Yay @ double Selegend and wow @ I Miss You so high!
January 15, 20187 yr It Ain't Me was Kygo's best output this year imo! Really catchy and actually made me more interested in Selena also
January 16, 20187 yr Author Thanks for the comments all  I'll get back on replying to your EOY charts ASAP!
January 16, 20187 yr Author Artists  4 The Vamps The Vamps seem to appear here every year. They were my artist of 2014, and I'm pretty certain they've featured every year since. The four-piece group, consisting of Brad, Connor, Tristan and James, have had another breathtaking year in my chart, and finally they have a chart record to their name, one that's been in the making since Can We Dance charted at #1 in 2013. Promotion for their third album Night & Day (Night Edition) continued with the release of singles Middle of the Night and Hands first of all. Following the huge smash All Night, with Matoma, it made sense to collaborate with more DJs, but collaborations with Martin Jensen and Mike Perry (plus Sabrina Carpenter) did nothing for them - the former thanks to a messy release, and nobody seemed to bother pushing the latter. A shame really, but both tracks hit #1 in my chart, taking their tally of #1s to eleven - the same as record holders One Direction. Night & Day came next. The album, which was only 8 tracks long in its original form, felt underwhelming at first. But its short length, with some solid bonus tracks, allowed for the tracks to grow on me individually - something that I found difficult on previous album Wake Up when the album was so damn long. Each song on the 8-track standard album has something to offer and I don't think any are filler, while I love bonus track On My Way a lot too. When the album came out, I met the boys (again!) for an album signing, followed by a short gig at the Hippodrome in Kingston. I've lost count of how many times I've met the boys individually, but it's at the point now where I've told Connor my name as he recognises me every time! It was brilliant to meet them again, they're always very friendly and I've met them at least once a year since 2014. Furthermore, seeing Night & Day become their first #1 album was a delightful moment, even with the record-breaking drop-off in week 2! After promotion for the album ended, we got a collaboration with Matoma once again, called Staying Up. This was their twelfth #1 single in my chart, and finally, The Vamps took hold of the record for most #1s by a single artist. Staying Up is perhaps not the best song to have broken the record, as it proved to have a short shelf-life, but thankfully they followed it up quickly with a 13th chart-topper - Personal, with Maggie Lindemann. Personal is the first single from Night & Day (Day Edition), and it was instantly my favouite of their 2017 releases. Catchy and carefree, while Maggie's addition adds a lot of spark (more on that later). While their chart success is waning, it's been another brilliant year for The Vamps based on music quality. I'll be seeing them live for the eighth time later this year too, so the love keeps on coming. Expect to see them in next year's artist top 10 too!

I always enjoyed One Last Time, it was a big favourite from the album, but as a single, it wasn't as big in my chart as I expected, despite two stints in my top 40. However, with the lyrics taking on a whole new meaning, One Last Time re-entered my chart at #10, immediately securing a brand new peak. It then climbed to #1 two weeks after, following the One Love Manchester concert, giving Ariana her fifth #1 in my chart. Due to the sad circumstances, I've really come to appreciate the track in a whole new light, and Ariana's incredible show of bravery and courage at One Love Manchester was so empowering - my favourite night of TV of the year without a doubt. I just wish my new love for the song had come under better circumstances. RIP to all the victims :( EOY History 2013 _83 Right There (feat. Big Sean) 2013 130 The Way (feat. Coffee in Shanghai became his sixth #1 in my chart earlier this year, as his first proper English single since Requiem in 2013. It's another quirky singer/songwriter-type track from Ulrik, continuing his usual style but stripping it down further. I'm hoping this leads to a fourth album from him, but there's no news yet. A shame, because all three of his previous albums have been absolutely brilliant! EOY History 2013 __1 Heroes In Defeat (Change Your Mind) 2013 __2 Tell the World I'm Here 2013 _18 Thousand Years 2013 _21 Requiem 2013 _31 Glad I Found You 2013 _47 Crash Test Dummy 2014 _41 Jag vet inte hur man gör 2015 _11 Nån gång 2015 _47 Alltid leva, aldrig dö 2015 _79 Närmare himlen 2015 197 Allt jag ville säga 2017 _39 Coffee in Shanghai ijp0wR9Kdv4
January 16, 20187 yr Great that "One Last Time" made your Year-End List, but it's still tragic what happened in Manchester last year.
January 16, 20187 yr The events and re-emergence of One Last Time has really cemented it as one o my all time faves  Obviously though I wish it had been in better circumstances :(
January 17, 20187 yr Giving Coffee In Shanghai a listen now, loving that melody and the piano riff as well! I should keep a lookout for him in the future :o
January 19, 20187 yr Author Giving Coffee In Shanghai a listen now, loving that melody and the piano riff as well! I should keep a lookout for him in the future :o Thrilled you've made a discovery from it Pete!! I'm not sure when he'll next release, it seems quite irregular these days, but hopefully he'll return with a new album soon. In the meantime, I would recommend checking a few tracks from albums 1 and 2 out (as well as Nån gång from his Swedish language album), there's some really superb tracks there.
January 19, 20187 yr Author Songs  38 Katy Perry feat. Skip Marley - Chained To the Rhythm | 9-1-4-5-8-11-15-19-27-34-37-X (11 weeks) It took her almost five years from her chart debut, but 2017 was finally the year Katy Perry scored her first #1 in my chart. Chained to the Rhythm stormed to the top in its first full week, with the politically-charged pop anthem being an instant hit for me. I loved how Katy spoke about the state of the world right now, interwoven with her trademark catchy hooks. It was a great campaign to follow, with one of the best videos of 2017 and a great set of performances. However, the song got old rather quick for me. It held off Anne-Marie's Ciao Adios from my #1 spot, and it's worth noticing that Ciao Adios has yet to appear, so maybe Katy didn't deserve her only #1...oops! Katy has one more song left, with Swish Swish guaranteed her best EOY placing ever, so it's not all bad for Katy. EOY History Katy Perry 2013 _60 Unconditionally 2013 _62 Roar 2014 _66 Dark Horse (feat. Marvin Gaye proved to be a grower, and One Call Away also took its time (I love the latter in particular now), but from We Don't Talk Anymore onwards I've considered myself a bit of a stan. 2017's been another great year for Charlie, scoring three top 10 hits. The second of three appears now, with #3 hit Attention finishing at a very good #37 EOY. Attention made it to #3 in its first full week, behind We the Kings' Sad Song (already out, oops) and Shawn Mendes' There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back (still in). Charlie has one more song left, will How Long overtake We Don't Talk Anymore as his best EOY placing yet? EOY History 2015 119 Marvin Gaye (feat. January 19, 20187 yr Lovely to see One Last Time sneak into your EOY Top 40. I echo your thoughts regarding the lyrics taking on a new meaning - a beautiful tribute following such an horrific event. Katy absolutely deserved that #1! Anne-who? x Attention is nice, but How Long was more up my street - glad to see it's still to come!
