December 19, 20177 yr Lady Gaga has confirmed that she has signed a deal to perform at the Park Theater at Monte Carlo as part of her very first Las Vegas residency. The new show will be designed specifically for the venue and the first concerts are scheduled for December 2018. "It's the land of Elvis, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, Elton John, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli," Gaga said. "It has been a life-long dream of mine to play Las Vegas. I am humbled to be a part of a historical line-up of performers, and to have the honor of creating a new show unlike anything Vegas has ever seen before. I'll tell you exactly what I told my MGM and Park Theater partners: you can count on this performer always for one thing… I'll leave my heart on the stage every single night. Thank you to my fans for always believing in me. Meet me in Las Vegas baby, we did it!" She'll be earning MILLIONS for ~50 shows. Get that DOLLA
December 19, 20177 yr Not that excited about this. Look what Vegas has done to Britney and J Lo’s careers.
December 19, 20177 yr It's not good if she is planning to release new music next year!? Unless she is able to negotiate a good contract she will banned from performing on all sorts of shows, concerts etc, they are clauses in their contracts. Also definitely no tour. It's very brave of her to do it so early in her career too with not as big a back catalogue as the likes of Cher, Elton John, Celine Dion even Britney Spears who have enjoyed successful stints there before her. I hope it pays off though, I saw Cher and Diana Ross there (Cher at the Monte Carlo Park Theatre, and Diana Ross at the Venetian). They are great venues with fantastic views wherever you sit as they are not as big as arenas and the like.
December 20, 20177 yr I think this is probably because of her health issues? Not good to travel around the world for a year, doing a residency is way easier in that sense as she LOVES to perform.
December 20, 20177 yr This is interesting. She's not at the level Britney was at when she decided to take on the residency, so it's a really interesting move. Have Vegas ever had someone who is as relevant/so new (i.e. not two Decades or so) into their careers as Gaga is right now? But I'm happy for her. I was hesitant about Britney's at first, but it's done absolute WONDERS for her performance abilities post Blackout and her health. It was also one of the most successful Vegas stints ever. So I reckon with Gaga still being as prominent in the charts as she is, it's going to do incredibly well. I hope she has struck a deal that lets her promote her material at the very least though. Britney has changed the stigma of Las Vegas residencies tbh. It's no longer "the place artists go to die" or whatever, it's become a cool thing and it's where artists get to do what they do best and perform every night, without having to travel and keep their careers alive slightly. The stans will travel from wherever they are to go see the show, no matter what and that's only ever a good thing for LV! I'm excited for her and we ALL know what kind of show Gaga puts on.
December 20, 20177 yr She's over x This. People do Vegas when their recording careers are done. New Cyndi Lauper.
December 20, 20177 yr I disagree actually. Elton John has been doing Vegas residencies for years and he still achieves #1 albums and hits here and there. Cher did her first Vegas residency back in the 60's and her career has had massive highs since. Celine Dion has been doing her residency for years and yet still releases albums (although not to the same success). Bruno Mars is currently at the Monte Carlo and he is bigger than he has ever been...
December 20, 20177 yr I feel like this puts her in the 'legacy act' bracket when she's still a huge popstar :(
December 21, 20177 yr Not that excited about this. Look what Vegas has done to Britney and J Lo’s careers. I'm fairly sure their careers were pretty much in the dumpster before Vegas.
December 21, 20177 yr The residency doesn't mean she can't do anything. I believe she'll have "only" 74 shows in two years. This rules out a lengthy world tour but nothing else.
January 6, 20187 yr Celine Dion, 49, has said that she doesn't have any words of wisdom for Lady Gaga, 31, ahead of her Las Vegas residency at the end of this year. Talking at CNN's New Year's Eve show, the star revealed her love for Gaga as she admitted that the Joanne singer doesn't need advice because she's perfect just the way she is. 'Do I have advice for Lady Gaga?! No!' she said. 'First of all, this girl knows exactly what she's doing,' she said. 'She knows what to do. And I will never, ever, ever, in my whole life tell somebody professional super talented like she is how to do things.' Celine added jokingly: 'I'm going to go see her show. When is she starting?' Celine was also asked if she would be interested in doing a duet with the Bad Romance singer, and she said, 'Oh, don't get me started now! I would love that, I love her so much. I can't wait! Come on, Lady Gaga, we're waiting for you!' Icons praising icons.
January 24, 20187 yr Could someone please explain to me what this is? Never heard of Vegas residency etc
January 25, 20187 yr People getting shitloads of money for having a special show in Las Vegas. It doesn't prevent them from playing elsewhere too as Celine did this year. Edited January 25, 20187 yr by SKOB
