Old homophobic tweets from Rita and Cardi being dug up :o they probably weren't drinking red wine when tweeting them back then?

(I am trolling (maybe))

"You can't use tweets from years ago against them, things are different and people change" etc...

Rita allegedly said this on stage last night: "I wrote this song as a celebration, if people can’t see that it’s their problem."

Very celebratory remark to make! :cheer:

there are a lot of pieces in various online platforms / newspapers written by gay men defending rita and doing so really poorly (an awful piece tried to make a comparison between this entire song and a passing lyric in a little known harry styles track? ‘gaybaiting’ i think not...)

i get why a lot of the opinions on this have come from gay men (this is rita’s core/most loyal fanbase) but this is a song that speaks and resonates to another section of the LGBTQ+ spectrum in a really significant way.

there was a good opinion piece in the guardian from a non-hetro woman:

also rita’s comments from that gig if true are very tone deaf to fit with a very tone deaf song clearly sung by a tone deaf woman who seems to be totally unable to comprehend/respond/engage with criticism that has been thrown in her direction.

Enters the chart at #22 today.

I expected a top twenty debut so I'm kinda shocked - it's her first single since "Coming Home" to debut outside although that climbed up to #15 from outside the top 40. I don't think this will go top ten now unfortunately, the whole release strategy seems really messy and I imagine they're rethinking the music video due to the backlash.

With a name like Cardi B on it I was really expecting a top 10 debut. Top 15 at least!

I guess it’s the controversy that stopped it from debuting high.

I love the song but maybe a lot of it is to do with the GP not liking it? Everyone I know who has heard the song doesn't like it, obviously a pool of like 5 people doesn't matter much but the reception online also has been very mixed

Surely Cardi B is much more for the American audience than the UK - she's not exactly setting the UK charts on fire. She got hype sure but thats about it.

The song is poor and the 22 debut for someone like Rita reflects that. The record company must be worried to reduce to 59p on the second week of release too. Wouldn't surprise me if the song was abandoned and another song is pushed in a few weeks time

The music video needs to be released soon.

It's still #22 on iTunes despite the reduction and slowly starting to fall down playlists on Spotify, I think with the artists on the single, the song itself should be performing better especially in the UK considering the instant airplay and the success of 'Your Song', 'Anywhere' and 'For You'.

Most reactions I have seen (particularly searching on Twitter) are saying that Cardi B, who has only very recently made homophobic and transphobic remarks, being on a song that is apparently lgbt friendly doesn't sit right with them so I'm not sure why her name alone warrants this being a big hit :P
I don't think shes been forced out like the opening lyrics are clear enough without having to make a statement anyway. I'm happy for her and it's always great to have another voice as bisexuality is something that is highly misunderstood at times. It is sad though that people did attack her and the other artists on how "real" their attraction towards girls is which is the part thats out of line, everyone has different experiences with sexuality, who is anyone to judge on who fits what label? Its gross. If Rita feels she is bisexual then she ks bisexual, it is as simple as that. As iffy as the lyrics are, you can tell they weren't written to offend so it does suck that she's felt she had to appologise for writing lyrics personal to her. Tbh its more the other verses by Charli/Bebe/Cardi that are problematic lyrically anyway imo

I agree and you have worded what I've wanted to say for a while, perfectly.
This has debuted at #3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. I hope for Rita's own sake that it eventually achieves a decent position on the main chart.
I guess its main chance to enter in the Hot 100 will be thanks to the music video! Beyond that, I struggle to see this doing particularly major things in the US, even with the Cardi B feature.
Her biggest hit in the US from this album!
