January 15, 20187 yr Sanchez will join us I think rather than Chelsea. He is going to be ABSOLUTELY hated by the Arsenal fans whichever way he goes , Henrikh Mkhitaryan is rumoured to be going the other way to the Emirates.
January 16, 20187 yr Author Sanchez will join us I think rather than Chelsea. He is going to be ABSOLUTELY hated by the Arsenal fans whichever way he goes , Henrikh Mkhitaryan is rumoured to be going the other way to the Emirates. Few Arsenal fans I've spoken to can't wait to see the back of him, they reckon he's been playing on autopilot ever since Chile didn't qualify for the World Cup. Going to be a good signing, but I don't think we will ever see the Alexis Sanchez we saw a couple of years ago. He definitely looks to have lost a little bit of acceleration this year, regardless of whether he has been sulking.
January 17, 20187 yr The strong Andy Carroll to Chelsea rumours are the funniest thing I've heard in a while. Would be such a random move, we'd be stupid to turn down a 20m+ bid for him.

Conte obviously wants a big striker (was after Lukaku and Llorente). Carroll is a mad choice though, I seriously hope it goes through haha.
January 17, 20187 yr The Sanchez stuff is hilarious. Ignoring Chelsea desperately trying to pretend their relevant despite never being in on the transfer for a moment, it's the City fans that are killing me. They trying to pretend they never wanted him and that it's all about money. Forgetting that the deal they offered him in the summer was worth more £££ than the United one. It's almost as if he wanted to go to a club with history and class ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's almost as if he wanted to go to a club with history and class ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I don't think the deal City offered is anywhere near what is being reported for Sanchez at the moment. I think he would be perfect at City, even as he loses his pace but it is clearly not worth £500,000 a week. There is definitely better value out there, even in the short term.
January 18, 20187 yr The MEN was reporting yesterday that City were offering a £30m sign on in the summer compared to our £5m and we’re offering £130k more per week which when compared directly to the contract city offered means United pay less. The deal we’re doing was, based on information commonly known the other day, about £15m less than City’s summer deal. The wages are truly insane, but this is nothing new. Nobody is worth the sums of money they get these days
January 18, 20187 yr Wenger has said that the Alexis Sanchez and Henrikh Mkhitaryan swap looks close to happening.

Nobody is worth the sums of money they get these days But there would also have been no outlay of the transfer fee so that's a cost saving exercise. Plus I am sure the sign-on fee is pro-rata'd across the length of the contract, I know that's what happened to James Milner when he signed. So it's apples and oranges and his wages would have been similar most likely, but City would not have paid the transfer fee too for that deal, which is why I suspect they backed out. You're looking at a huge outlay for a player on a 4 and a half year contract. He's a top player, but his best attributes are speed and acceleration, which is on its way down. I suspect you will get a good couple of years out of him though.. got no idea what Mourinho's strategy is, same for Arsenal or Chelsea.
January 18, 20187 yr City were paying £60m transfer fee in July so am not quite following you fully. I am very much a skeptic of this move. I understand the bankability commercially of him, which is important when you're a team that (like Liverpool) has to generate the revenue to sustain itself and compete at the top, but I'm not sure that he's 1) what we need or 2) that he won't go missing the first sign of things getting a little tough

I have not looked in to his initial package offered in summer 2017. The thing is, I am not sure the commercial aspect of players is really a thing? I am pretty sure the clubs getting minimal from shirt selling as surely that is why the manufacturers may so much money to sponsor? Obviously it will help negotiate a better deal hen the vendor comes up for renewal. I do like Sanchez and I think he will be good for you guys, but like you, it seems more of an opportunism purchase rather than a strategic buy.

Nah nah, the summer window just past which is what City fans are very conveniently forgetting about when mouthing off about money. It is for a club like United as it's a draw for sponsors and partners to have a player who is very commercially friendly. It'll play well in South America where United isn't so big commercially. We make huge amounts from Asia and China especially, but Sanchez has much more value to a sponsor and partner than Rojo or Romero.

But that's part of the problem with the Man Utd strategy, buying a player (whilst a very good one) for commercial opportunities. Man Utd should be making stars. Mind you, at least Man Utd are buying players.. looks like Liverpool will be waiting until the summer to spend the dosh!
January 18, 20187 yr I think we're fairly good at making stars. We have a good academy and have an insanely good record at including an academy grad in our team for each match. Going back like 70+ years. I think we would be waiting to the summer as well if it wasn't for the availability of Sanchez. Very much an opportunist transfer. Winter market is hard but you surely have enough talent and quality going forward to mostly overcome your issues at the back. It'll punish you a few times but not something you're gonna fix in a winter window when availability is low, the best are cup tied and prices are way over what they should be. We waited for Lindelof and got a much better deal in the end.
January 18, 20187 yr I will miss Henrikh Mkhitaryan when he goes to Arsenal, it's been a bumpy road for him at Old Trafford but once he got into the team regularly he played well and of course his scorpion kick goal wont be forgotten. It just seems like he was never fully settled at United right from the beginning of last season when he made his debut quite late after signing for us. This season he gave the ball away too many times and seemed to lack confidence but I wont be surprised if he performs better at Arsenal.

We waited for Lindelof and got a much better deal in the end. When was the last star you made though? (either through the Academy or a young player) Certainly none since the end of the Fergie era (at least in the upper bracket). Rashford and Martial have gone backwards or not really pushed on as much as you would hope. Well that's it really, it looks as if Klopp is prepared to wait to get the players he wants, suppose there is no point going for second best. I suspect another heavy summer transfer window with a key goalkeeper.
January 18, 20187 yr Martial has not gone backwards?! He's having a cracking year! He scored 11 goals in the league the year he transferred and he's already on 8 for this year in the league (10 total) and he scored 8 the whole year in all comps last year. Backwards my arse. He had a poor year last year that he has publicly said was to do with things happening off the pitch in his personal life and he's now back in the zone and playing so well Can't take you seriously when you come out with such utter nonsense Roo. Rashford is still very young, to be expected that he has his ups and downs. He'll come good. Well he's waiting a whole season for Naby from RBL!! Just got to hope he doesn't pick up any major injuries this year given you've already done the deal!

Martial has the potential to be one of the best players in the world, I would hope he is pulling those numbers in! I can't proclaim to have watched Man Utd recently, but he looked poor a few months ago. Glad to see he is back cos he is quality and much better played through the middle. Keita is basically doing what Sanchez did - clearly playing at some way below their actual level and just going through the motions. I suspect he is Coutinho's long term midfield replacement.
