Barking is just as dull/repetitive/lacking as God’s Plan really. I like them both (GP more than the other) but I cannot see how someone can see Drakes song being any worse than Barking... it’s literally just a case of people being ‘sick’ of Drake, who has become a successful artist, whereas Ramz is likely a one hit wonder at this point.

"Barking" has a tune where "God's Plan" doesn't. Granted I needed a dance remix of "Barking" to be particularly into it though.

That XXXTENTACION song is gonna be a proper hit then, I quite like it though I'd rather he not be having hits as he's a terrible person.
Great to see the combination of Mabel and Not3s going top 10 their two hits this year have been upbeat and fresh!

'God's Plan' is just a useless pile of nothingness. At least 'Barking' has something to it, a slight hint of individuality and character.

I get that people find Drake boring, but God's Plan is one of the most lyrically personal and specific songs in the charts right now; half of the lyrics would make no sense from another artist's perspective as there's a lot of introspection and personal back story.

I don’t doubt you but can you explain? I’ve been and read the lyrics and from what I got it’s not much more than ‘challenging things happen but god has a plan for me’ but in a much wordier way.

It's mostly just in the little touch stones, like he mentions his friend who was murdered last year which he got a tattoo of. He mentions his hometown and how he's still the same as he was (very common Drake trope). He mentions how much he relies on his producer 40, and his manager Ali. He mentions past beefs and how he doesn't want part of it, there's reference to his show he played at the O2 where he offered to refund the whole crowd after Travis Scott fell through the stage.

The general conceit is that whether people like it or not, his success is all part of God's plan, which is admittedly simple and lightweight, but I do think all the autobiographical details do well to play into that theme.

It’s arguably a more personal song than most of everything else in the charts right now.

but personal doesn't make it good, see my nana's song by ed sheeran

well it makes the lyrics more interesting than a lot of rap songs these days that are just people bragging about expensive jewellery, cars, drugs, money and girls (though I do like a lot of those songs too when they're done well).

Honestly, I despise Drake with a passion but if you forced me to pick one of his songs to be at #1 it would definitely be this one. The fact that Diplomatic Immunity only spent 3 weeks in the Top 75 shows that the UK public at least have some taste.
