I thought Phil Taggart sounded great this morning. A perfect show to wake up to when you don’t need to rush around. Wasn’t so sure on RMC though.

I’ve always loved the presenting style of Rickie, Melvin and Charlie since their Kiss Breakfast days but I’ve fallen out of love with the persistent hip hop tracks they want to play

Have only listened to Tong and Saunders but it has been absolutely fire this afternoon. Obviously you wouldn't want this that regularly as the novelty would wear off but they should have more Nighttime Takeovers on Bank Holiday Mondays as there's only so many times you can say "Sk8r Boi! I haven't heard this for ages!".

Also, Tong sounds nowhere near 59. Long may he continue.

Interesting to hear recent singles from bands I was once massively into including ones R1 once loved on daytime. I was wondering if the lack of daytime R1 play was making me prejudiced and making these songs seem less credible and important but no, Salted Caramel Ice Cream and Hungry Child probably didn't deserve to make the playlist as they are very meh. Not that they were ever into Metronomy much. Yay, love the fact Smells Like Teen Spirit is still a R1 song. Will never get old!

It's been a while since we did playlist predictions, as it's more difficult to anticipate when they will playlist stuff these days... but here's what I think might get added tomorrow:

Sam Feldt - Post Malone

Post Malone - Circles (and surely that would be the first time two new additions have shared the same artist and title!)

Tones And I - Dance Monkey (desperately hoping...)

Regard - Ride It

Do we think they'll add the new Ava Max? They might wait to see if it starts climbing the charts.

Have they playlisted Wiley and Lizzo [Good as Hell] yet?

Nope.

Ooh ok ty! Did they playlist Truth Hurts?

Yes, it was on their B list until about a month ago.

I do wonder if they will support the final single from Bring and The Horizons current album; Sugar, Honey, Ice & Tea. It's been played a lot on he evening shows.

I think all 4 of those will be added along with possibly Lalala - Y2K? That does seem like a song that they might ignore though.

I hope Torn gets playlisted tomorrow, otherwise she’ll be a radio 2 flop

Rickie, Melvin and Charlie make their proper daytime debut this week (recent nighttime takeover aside) as they cover for Scott Mills which means their 9pm show will be simulcast with 1Xtra instead bringing across Twin B, Jamz Supernova, the 1Xtra Residency and Seani B.

Cel Spellman and Katie Thistleton will be doing this week’s chart on Friday

Early Weekend Breakfast also launched over the weekend starting at 4am on a Friday and 5am on a Sat/Sun with Arielle Free taking on presenting duties.

Scott Mills and Chris Stark get Saturday mornings on 5 Live

Scott Mills and Chris Stark will host a new Saturday morning show on 5 Live from November in Danny Baker’s old slot.

The BBC Radio 1 afternoon presenters will start on Saturday 9th November 2019 and air from 9am till 11am.

Scott will continue to host his Radio 1 weekday show and the Official Chart. Chris is staying at Radio 1 too, and will still co-present BBC Radio 5 live’s That Peter Crouch Podcast.

Scott Mills says: “I’m so delighted to be joining BBC Radio 5 live! I love my Radio 1 show and covering for Claudia on Radio 2 which I’ll still be doing. But I’m now ready to bring a whole different show to 5 live. Expect lots of laughs and of course Chris Stark. Just what you want on a Saturday morning!”

There will also be changes to Sundays on BBC Radio 5 live. The BBC’s Deputy Political Editor John Pienaar’s weekly programme (Pienaar’s Politics) moves to the earlier time of 9am featuring big political interviews and insights into the week at Westminster.

This is followed at 10am by Laura Whitmore. After two summer series on 5 live, Laura returns every Sunday morning with guests from the worlds of politics, music and showbiz.

At 11.30am 5 live’s Sunday sports coverage kicks off with discussion show The Squad With Nick Bright, followed by 5 live Premier League Sunday.

Heidi Dawson, Controller at BBC Radio 5 live says: “Scott Mills is one of the best broadcasters in the business and I’m excited about the new show he and Chris Stark will be bringing to Saturday mornings.

“Laura Whitmore has done a fantastic job across a number of shows on 5 live and it’s brilliant that we can now offer her a show every Sunday morning. Laura is a fantastic new radio star who has already made a great impact with listeners.”

Chris Stark says: “Saturday mornings for me were always the excitement of a day of sport ahead and the routines that came with it. Wenzels steak slice, listening to Fighting Talk, meeting up with mates at the Pinner war memorial before kicking on to Vicarage Road. To take on Saturday mornings at 5 Live is a huge honour. I’m excited for us to make a show that reflects the lives and stories of everyone listening on a Saturday morning. The best time of the week. We cannot wait to get started.

Laura Whitmore says: “I am thrilled to have my own full time show and be part of the 5 Live family. The station has been hugely supportive of the topics I’ve covered so far and the people I’ve interviewed. With a longer show, I’m excited to build on this as well as bringing some new exciting discussions to the station.”

The new BBC Radio 5 live weekend morning schedule is as follows:

Saturdays (from 9 Nov)

9-11am – Scott Mills and Chris Stark

11am-midday – Fighting Talk

midday – 5 live Sport

(continues as before)

Sundays (from 10 Nov)

9-10am – Pienaar’s Politics

10-11.30am – Laura Whitmore

11.30am-12.30pm – The Squad With Nick Bright

12.30pm – 5 live Premier League Sunday

(continues as before)

He's covering for Claudia on Radio 2!

Oh ignore me then! I didn't realise that was Sunday!

Oh ignore me then! I didn't realise that was Sunday!

All seemingly to give the illusion that Claudia is presenting the Strictly results 'live' because she can't be in two places at once ofc ;)

Half Term schedule changes from Monday

Katie Thistleton is covering for Adele Roberts

Jordan North in for Scott Mills

Phil Taggart in for Annie Mac (Danny Howard is covering Friday)

Adele Roberts is looking after Rickie, Melvin and Charlie's show

Eats Everything is in for Danny Howard on Friday

Kenny Allstar is covering for Tiffany Calvert on Saturday for The Rap Show

Frank Carter is covering for Daniel P Carter on Sunday night for The Rock Show

I think they could have tested the waters by having Cel and Katie standing in for Scott on the chart show recently as I reckon Scott will at least give up the chart show next year to accommodate his increasing non-Radio 1 commitments.
