April 24, 20196 yr This is gonna be her first album not to debut top ten isn’t it  I honestly think it’s gonna debut between 15 - 20. Sales are low so it should be able to chart top ten, surely? I am more curious about the US. Music aside, there have definitely been some choices with how this has been unveiled and promoted.
April 25, 20196 yr All the focus has been on the Love part, and while it was interesting to release that full part a few weeks earlier - it kind of makes the full release week a bit redundant now considering nothing has really happened between that release and now. Still very excited for Fear and it’ll be interesting to see how it compares with Love.
April 25, 20196 yr My biggest fear is they’re similar and the entire concept falls apart. I would love to be surprised!
April 25, 20196 yr I feel like Emotional Machine might become a fan fave that I'll never fully grasp the love for.
April 26, 20196 yr Listened to the fear side this morning, it was mostly pleasant but sadly nothing really stuck with me after listening.
April 26, 20196 yr I liked Life Is Strange and Karma the most on first listen. As a full package (both Love & Fear), it does blend a bit too much together in that it is full of mid-tempos with no real full out bops and, alternatively no proper ballads either - both styles that she excels at. Love has really grown on me, aside from Orange Trees, so look forward to more listens of Fear as well.
April 26, 20196 yr listening now, but if there is really a difference between the Fear and Love parts, I cannot tell, both sound the same to me
April 26, 20196 yr BBC interview: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48050526 Similar to the ones from around the Handmade Heaven releases (even quoting one of them!) but they really do help me appreciate the album more, when my first reaction may be that it’s not to the level that I was hoping for. It kind of feels like a self-help album in a way!
April 26, 20196 yr I really like a lot of the tracks on the Fear side, but I agree that they don't sound all that different from the Love tracks. Ultimately, I don't feel she needed to separate them. Good album all the same.
April 26, 20196 yr I don't quite know what's happened to her, this album is so... pedestrian. Something I never could have accused her of before. :(
April 26, 20196 yr Disappointed with this considering Froot ended up as one of my favourite albums of all time. Minus a few treasures, most of the tracks are very bland and forgettable. Hardly any would have made it on Froot!
April 26, 20196 yr My biggest fear is they’re similar and the entire concept falls apart. I would love to be surprised! Well. That happened then. Emotional Machine is the best thing here. It's all serviceable enough but severely lacking in any personality — something she excelled at on previous albums. The production is incredibly one note and by the end, it all merges into one long blur that doesn't leave much of an impression. I don't understand the single choices at all. I don't understand the rollout. A campaign of choices. Fear is stronger than Love, although it's all pointless — there is nothing separating them other than some Marina lip service.
April 26, 20196 yr Music is generally pretty chill (the production is brilliant and choice of musical styles is suitable) and her singing still sounds cool and fits with the music... but lyrical content overall is the worst of the 4 albums to date. Some of the lyrics of a few songs (I won't mention which songs) just ruin the immersion and the fun for me. I'm kinda conflicted. Is L+F my least favourite album to date? I dunno yet. I had a listen back at the back catalogue some time ago. 'The Family Jewels' hasn't kinda aged well, though it's still fun. 'Electra Heart' is still great. 'FROOT' is still mostly great too as a whole. Edited April 26, 20196 yr by All★bySmashMouth

April 28, 20196 yr Finally listened to this in full today. I’ve been holding off until the whole albums out before I listened and I’m glad I did. It’s really strong in my opinion. As far as the Love side goes I still absolutely love Handmade Heaven and even more so now in context of the album. But I also loved True on first listen. Baby also sounds great on the album and Orange Trees is a BOP. With the Fear side my favourites were I Believe In Love, You and Soft To Be Strong. No bad songs on either disc though but as a whole I was more drawn to the Love side. I seem to be in the minority with Marina because I think this and Electra Heart are her strongest albums but most Internet forums like this especially seem to really stan the FROOT era.
April 29, 20196 yr At 3 in the first chart update with 5.4k sales. Definitely safe for a Top 10 peak.
April 29, 20196 yr The album definitely has its moments but lyrically it's monstly cringeworthy. Can't believe it took her so long to come back with this stuff. "Sit back and enjoy your problems, you don't always have to solve them". B*tch, I like to face my problems, thank you very much. Such horrible advice!
April 29, 20196 yr Yeah, lyrically, it's shocking, but there's some nice catchy melodies. Sadly, it's probably her worst album but oh well.
