Yes they should even for YouTube, but they should only count official videos and audios and not fan made ones...

There are some moans here that the 'same artists would be at the top of the chart, for ages'.

Well for one it would depend on the ratio and rules they enacted in relation to the inclusion of videos. There could be a time limit for instance.

But secondly, Drake has had 2 number 1 hits plus note "rockstar." recently that did not have music videos (at least at first) so it could help even out the 'advantage' it effectively gives these songs from having to be streamed.

Let’s not get ridiculous though yes music video purchases I’d also agree should be included.

Why is it ridiculous? Free streaming is included yet radio airplay isn’t? Paid for videos and ringtones are not included even though actual ££ is being spent.

As I said previously if they include free video viewing on YT then they should include every form of music consumption.

How many people actually buy videos or ringtones in 2018 though?

No idea? I’m assuming you have the stats?

It seems Spotify will have a new competitor in YouTube Music, which will be replacing Google Play.

No word on if YouTube Music streams will count towards the official chart but I expect they will. This could be the start of video streams getting counted.

I don't reckon it will. OCC seem dead against it. I'm sure they will be able to separate audio and video streams.

DVD singles are counted, so why not video purchases/streams? Whats the difference?

Sounds like it's happening!

@leethommo Oh oh, here we go... YouTube views in the U.K. to be added to the Official Singles Chart from July 1.

That's a Sunday so he might have the date wrong but Lee's an industry bod who's usually very reliable

However they do it they'll have to make sure it doesn't affect their fresh-music-in-the-charts policy they've got atm. I can see the ratio being very low and ACR applying to video streams as well.

Well, if it's true it would be interesting. The Youtube charts are very strange because they manage to be both faster AND slower than the Spotify and iTunes charts.

Youtube is "faster", because songs can often get a random massive spike for a few days and then drop again, which doesn't happen often on Spotify. I think there would be slightly more potential for old songs to re-enter the chart (which hasn't happened often recently). However, because a lot of songs can fluctuate from week to week, there would probably be quite a few songs avoiding ACR for quite a long time due to more-or-less random fluctuations.

Youtube is "slower", because the big hits that are consistent hang around FOREVER. If you think Shape Of You and Despacito hung around for ages on iTunes and Spotify, then Youtube is on a whole other level.

So I can't decide if it would make the charts more or less entertaining.

However, if Youtube really is getting added, this would be the perfect time for OCC to change the stream-to-sale ratio if they want to.

but I think it's the new streaming service in YT that will count for the charts, thats the new service that YT is introducing now

don't think it's the occ changing the rules and allowing every video on YT to count

it's a new streaming service from YT same as spotify or deezer or apple
