There's been four bigger drops from #1:

(1–169) Bon Jovi - This House is Not for Sale (2018)

(1–111) Celine Dion - Courage (2019)

(1–97) Brand New - Science Fiction (2017)

(1–88) Brockhampton - Iridescence (2018)

Bon Jovi's album had already been to #1 in 2016, I think it returned to #1 due to a ticket bundle or something. Celine Dion and Brand New's albums had more than two weeks in the chart - just Brockhampton's album matches the two weeks of 'Madame X' but his drop was slightly worse.

i always wondered why Ray Of Light (song) sold that many digital downloads in the US, was it promoted in some tv commercial or something?

Copied from UKMIX:

Heavily informed by the birth of her daughter Lourdes and her newfound interest in all things spiritual, Ray of Light undeniably restored Madonna’s reputation as the Queen of Pop. Not only did it notch the highest first-week sales by a female artist in the Nielsen SoundScan Era up until that point, but it spawned four Hot 100 hits, won four Grammy Awards and has sold 3.9 million copies in the U.S., per Luminate. It’s also generated 123.1 million on-demand official U.S. streams to date, according to Luminate.

3,900,000 pure album sales from Luminate/Soundscan + 459,000 BMG Music Club sales + 82,066 streaming equivalent units (123.1M streams) = 4,441,066 US units (not including track equivalent units that the RIAA & Luminate also use).

How has it only sold a million copies in the USA? Were single sales really dire in the 80's or something as it was a huge #1 over there wasn't it? Thought it was one of her big hits?
The IC did not reach number 1 in the states !!!

It was #2 wasn't it? Huge seller sold like 10million or something but didn't quite reach the top spot, like Come on over by Shania Twain.

This is from UKMIX:

Gold in 1998 as a physical single: 500k

Sales Plus Streaming through April 2023: 754k

= 1,254,000

Could be as high as 1.7m as we don’t know for sure how much it sold as a physical, just that it was over 500k and less than 1m.

3 million for Vogue even seems low.
