Hold your head up and be strong

| 34 // I Like It Rough // The Fame // 7.30

| 35 // Speechless // The Fame Monster // 7.28

| 36 // Til It Happens To You // N/A // 7.14

Til It Happens to You for the 2015 documentary film 'The Hunting Ground', is arguably one of the most important songs Gaga has ever recorded. Forever a philanthropist, this song dealt with campus rape in the US. It highlights the pain of sexual assault, but also extends further to the impact of any kind of loss or pain. The multi award winner/nominated song (Emmy Awards for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, and Best Original Song at the 88th Academy Awards) it gave light to a harrowing issue. Sung with deeply pained vocals and pure emotion, it's done enough to manage a good placing here!

The second track to fall from The Fame Monster is the slowest moment on it, and one of Gaga's most signature ballads Speechless. It was written to persuade her father, Joseph Germanotta, to undergo open-heart surgery and acts as a message for her fans to respect and cherish their loved ones. Representing the fear of death, it's yet another powerful number and a popular choice for live performance back in the day (possibly to showcase that she was a lot more versatile than her singles up until then presented). Finally in this batch, and back to more vintage Gaga, I Like It Rough is a cheeky album track from the debut. Raucous and exciting, it's about a key theme that Gaga has explored many times: being involved with someone that you really shouldn't. One of my absolute favourites from early-Ga <3

"Speechless" is one of, if not the, best ballads that she's ever recorded. So beautiful despite taking a long time to grow on me <3 How random that a basic bop like "I Like it Rough" has placed higher here 😏
Very surprised that LoveGame barely scraped the Top 40  I don't think any album only track from The Fame is better than it (though Starstruck comes close, for me).

'Electric Chapel' still remains my favourite Gaga album track  top 40 is a decent enough result when it's not a particular fan favourite, as far as I'm aware.

'Speechless' is stunning <3 this Gaga live performance is still the one I enjoy the most from her:

Up all night, tryin' to rub the pain out

| 31 // Grigio Girls // Joanne // 7.42

| 32 // Aura // ARTPOP // 7.40

| 33 // Dancin' In Circles // Joanne // 7.33

The opening track to ARTPOP Aura crashes out. Initially entitled "Burqa", the song is about female empowerment and also the barriers placed on stars in the media and in the spotlight. It's zany, in your face and totally wild. When it leaked in demo form, it gave life to what the album might sound like and fans were gagged. For me, the studio version was perhaps too glossy for such a messy song, but for its insanity it does the job well.

Two Joanne tracks fall, and two wildly different ones. The first, Dancin' In Circles is one of the most explosive songs on the album - a real barnyard banger. It was only until recently when I realised that the song may have deeper, more personal meaning, relating to the pain that Gaga has faced recently. It makes the song work on a completely different level and represents the loneliness that comes with pain and how dancing is a cure for any ills.

Also out is one of the deluxe tracks (so it's actually done VERY well considering). Grigio Girls for me is one of Gaga's very best - not because it's totally memorable or unique, but because it's SO heartfelt and personal and genuine. The song is dedicated to Sonja, Gaga's near, dear friend who sadly passed away from cancer. The song celebrates their friendship but also extends to friendship as a whole, as a means of dealing with pain. It's a painfully cathartic song that prioritises friends and sisters above all else when you're feeling small and worthless. A beautifully constructed song, sung elegantly and a perfect tribute to the late monster, Sonja <3

I honestly love Grigio Girls more than I can describe. It fills me with SO MANY EMOTIONS. Her delivery and passion for a song is matched only by the likes of The Edge of Glory maybe?? A real beauty and i'm so glad we got it. Totally connects

'Dancin' In Circles' is my favourite from Joanne *.* I wish it had been a single as I'd love to have seen a video for it. Especially after how good the 'John Wayne' one was!

I remember being blown away by how bonkers 'Aura' was on first listen through the 'Aura / Burqa' demo that was floating around! So good. The studio version didn't let me down (although I do get what you mean about it being a bit too glossy, that took a while to get used to, following the demo obviously being rough around the edges) and it is one of the highs on a pretty mixed album for me, very infectious.

I wish it could've been a single too! Or at least got a video like John Wayne did :( it went OFF on tour *.*

What are your thoughts on Grigio Girls :'( (or did you not mention it because you don't like it and don't want to upset me :snif:)

I have still only listened to the whole of 'Joanne' once  so I don't really remember it very well, but I promise I will revisit in the near future!!

Not the two best songs from 'Joanne' dropping out in one post *__*

Grigio Girls I always thought was an underrated gem but it seems to get a lot of appreciation *.* Jade you MUST listen to it again!

I'll tell them my religion's you

| 29 // Bloody Mary // Born This Way // 7.52

| 30 // Venus // ARTPOP // 7.45

Two of Meekul's favourite, favourite songs out in one fell swoop :o First up it's the... indescribable sounds of Venus. The out-of-this-world was actually considered as a single and performed live on huge TV shows because Gaga clearly thought it was what the public needed. But as it faded into starlight, it instead matured into one of her most crazy album tracks/songs ever. Inspired by the Goddess of Love, the song is a crazed journey through space as she battles with her sexuality and cravings in supremely wicked style. An ear-bashing experience, the song has divided Gaga fans like no other song has managed.

We also lose steps-massive, un-cheesy Bloody Mary. Now this didn't divide fans.. instead at the time of the album release it was highly favoured by the Monster community and many saw it as a dark, potential single. Haunting and mysterious, the rave-ballad sung in the perspective of Mary Magdalene is a pulsating funeral party tune and the perfect soundtrack to a macabre night. Inspired by her car ;o (which shares the name of Bloody Mary ;o), it gave birth to the saying that life should be lived "halfway between fantasy and reality" - a saying which for me, is a great anecdote of Gaga as an artist herself!

Only two tracks in this post... must mean we have another SINGLE about to drop out :o
