I guess that dance anthems in the current climate is not reflecting a form of particularly popular music. Since the big wave in 2013-2014 and to a lesser extent 2015, dance anthems have really declined in terms of popularity.

they'll still have Dance Anthems on its Saturday slot right? makes more sense to just have it on the one day.

I think they're quite different shows though. The Friday night one seems very commercial compared to the Saturday night one

I will miss it because it's a good way of finding new dancepop songs that don't necessarily chart

Absolutely made up for Scott, they should have given him the show years ago! And a full 3hrs too. As for Dance Anthems, if it's meant to herald the weekend schedule , and the weekend now starts on Friday, wouldst that mean it would be on Thursday evening now?

That's also an interesting list to see Scott will be the oldest incoming presenter, I guess Fluff would be the oldest for an outgoing one, and wasn't SImon Bates only ever cover rather than permanent.

Simon Bates was cover for Tom Browne but when Browne left the (as it was then) Top 20 countdown in March 1978 Bates took over full time and remained presenter until around September 1979 when Tony Blackburn replaced him on what had become by then the Top 40 countdown. Bates returned to present the charts in 1984.

Good news, great host to present the show, no quibbles there.

Now the bad news, the whole top 40, is it really necessary, when OCC will be revealing the #1 at 6pm before Radio 1 does. I think the timing of the show needs to be revised from 4 to 6 to match with OCC, otherwise spoilers here we come, people will skim the OCC chart before the #1 is revealed, maybe Midge can tweet Scott about this :D to give Scott a nudge nudge wink wink

And do we really need a 3 hour show, unless a new format is been devised.

Won't the OCC just reveal the full top 100 at 7pm instead? What makes you think they'll still reveal it at 5.45?
Would David Rodigan count as the oldest outgoing presenter when he eventually leaves? He is 66 and his show is simulcast on R1 and 1Xtra.

I was talking about the chart show really though, following on from Sm1ffj's list, otherwise Scott wouldn't have been incoming, as he's been at Radio 1 for yonks.

Hoping they will, if they realise Radio 1 are playing musical chairs  with the Radio 1 transmission schedule.

Ah, I should've read it properly.

Normally the OCC release the chart after it's been aired on Radio 1. We know that from when they have had to move the show for Gregathons, etc....

Well for someone who leaves the house at 5:45 on a Friday and doesn't come back until about 8, this isn't exactly great news. Let's hope we don't have to endure God's Plan for the 45 weeks it spends in the Top 40.

As for Scott, I don't really know that much about him but at least it's not Dev.

I'm probably worrying over nothing, just hope OCC are aware of the changes, they probably been given the green light to do it anyway, and the reveal on OCC will be at 7pm unless they have a major tits up, by accident, by pressing the switch too early. -_-

Well, their website has acknowledged it.

As part of changes to the Radio 1 schedule, which will see its regular presenters shift to a four-day week, Scott will become permanent host for the very first time, following Greg James' two-and-a-half-year stint. From June, the show will also revert back to being a three-hour broadcast from 4-7pm on Fridays.

The Official Charts Company have just responded to someone on Facebook with this: "The final hour of the show will feature chart-related content, with more details coming soon."

Sounds like more Radio 1's Repetitive Greatest Hits, possibly some old 1#s we've all heard a gazillion times!

I hope not! I tghink it will be like this:- numbers 40-11 between 4-5:45pm with the Top 10 being broadcast between 6 and 7pm.

I'm pretty sure the 15 minute Newsbeat's are in their licence commitments and I would think would be very hard to persuade the BBC Trust to drop them completely from Fridays!

If they're extending the show and not taking the opportunity to play songs outside the top 40 it'll be a big shame, especially as plenty of them are probably on the Radio 1 playlist anyway so it's not like they're irrelevant songs.

Hi Steven, the charts will still be updated on the site as normal at 5.45pm.

Hi Steven. The final hour of the show will feature chart-related content, with more details coming soon.

So that sounds to me like exact same format, with Newsbeat at 5.45pm

Maybe a "retro" chart or something for last hour or something dumb. If we're very lucky a breakers chart or something.

Maybe they'll broadcast the 'Trending Chart' or move the Radio 1's Most Played Chart?

Aww I was enjoying Scott, Chris & Maya on the Scott Mills podcast. Interesting move though to ‘extend’ the weekend!

I think the most shocking thing is Mollie King officially being a Radio 1 presenter!! The Saturdays are officially cool for the first time in their career.

The trending chart would need to change to songs out of the top 40 and Radio 1's Most Played would be a bit odd with a lot of the same songs you've just heard in the previous 2 hours.

Fluff was 46 when he stood down in 1972 making him the oldest regular Radio 1 chart host but Tommy Vance was 51 when he hosted the 1991 chart of the year which was within the first Goodier era.
