Am I right in thinking the reason Radio 1 and the like didn't playlist it is because they either never intended to make it a single or outright cancelled it?

 

At that point, there was no way an Avicii single following on from True wasn't getting playlisted.

I think they cancelled it because The Nights leaked and was gaining traction so better to push that one instead. I should have said that, though I was surprised how little hype The Days got considering the Robbie Williams feature.

Personally, I reckon The Days wasn’t played by Radio 1 or Capital because it sounds more of a Robbie song and they just weren’t willing to play him then

I think The Days was planned an official release etc. but all that was cancelled when it was leaked a month or so early. The Nights was given promotion instead and that ended up being a big hit, although The Days still did great in his home country and here in Australia (and I think some smaller success in a handful of other places)

'The Days' was a pretty solid hit across Europe, and even spent a month in the global Spotify top 5 (back when the Spotify charts were more Europe-dominated). It actually peaked higher than 'The Nights' in most places I think, though 'The Nights' had much better longevity and gets about 3 times as many Spotify plays nowadays worldwide.

 

'The Days' had been on pre-order in the UK for November 23, 2014 (about 7 weeks after the rest of the world got it), but ended up getting removed before release. It does feel silly in retrospect when it surely could've been a top 5-10 hit without much trouble. I used to keep track of streaming-only top 200 charters and it had one of the longest streaming-only runs back then.
