Just like qualifying to the final I'm surprised to the Irish Eurovision entry been one of the highest on iTunes. The dark horse vibe is what I'm feeling with this.
That's very encouraging for Fuego after the semis, could do very well after the final and may even crack the top 75 officially next week (Obviously nobody will stream it 'cos Eurovision).

Surely they could get at least one day if there's a promoted Eurovision playlist on Spotify?

Just looking around; "Fuego" is #45 in Ireland, #42 in the Netherlands, #11 in Norway, #9 in Spain, #5 in Sweden

Ryan O'Shaughnessy "Together" has shot to #1 in Ireland! and also is #59 in the Netherlands, #44 in Sweden!

Equinox "Bones" is #32 in Norway, #33 in Sweden

Saara Aalto "Monsters" is #35 in Norway, #20 in Sweden

Eugent Bushpepa "Mall" is #41 in Sweden

Cesar Sampson "Nobody But You" is #35 in Switzerland, #47 in Norway, #16 in Sweden

Mikolas Josef "Lie To Me" is #78 in Belgium

Didn't expect to see Austria outperforming Czech Republic! Not that a few iTunes positions say much but I'm wondering if the latter is really a locked on top 10 as everyone seems to think it is. It's so commercial, if it was going to smash on the televote you'd expect it to be selling better.

I wouldn't read much into those itunes positions in Scandinavia, don't think anyone uses Itunes anymore and it's been like that for years, you need 3 sales to go top 100 in Sweden

EDIT just checked and according to digitalsalesdata Saara Alto sold 6 copies in Sweden to be at itunes #25

It's to do with Sweden having a much lower population than the UK.

Yes it is sad to watch the slow decline in sales on the itunes chart :( . Now we even have even a niche act like BABYMETAL making top 100 (at #85 now). The song sounds great btw though! :music:

Never heard Sos mentioned any songs? Which ones?

I never heard any references of 80s songs in the lyrics of SOS. You could just as easily argue that it references 'Rescue Me' by Fontella Bass which is a 60s song!

IIRC, Heroes managed to crack the Spotify Top 100 for a few days, so you never know

just randomly heard Rihanna's SOS and tit just mentions Tiny Dancer once in the verse not even in the chorus

so not the same case as 2002 at all

and yes Spotify is Swedish , guess thats why its so dominant in Scandinavia, but kinda bittersweet when you see Sarah Alto at #1 on Finland itunes but then you check and it's only 10 copies sold, crazy how in countries like Finland or Sweden, the latter with 10 million people only 10 people would go and buy the song on itunes

The one that comes most to mind for me as being quite similar to '2002' in lyrical theme (being nostalgic about a specific year) is Bowling For Soup's '1985' of course!

Babymetal to seem to have quite a large growing fanbase, their last album charted at #15 in 2016.

Niche act?! NICHE ACT?

They've probably been one of the most popular metal bands of the last few years. I think this being a surprise release is the main reason it's showing up though.

Encouraging for Eurovision to get its annual mini-invasion of the iTunes chart, I'll have to keep an eye on it for the weekend.

The Tiny Dancer reference is certainly deliberate, but it's not really an 80s song.

There are some other 80s titles in the lyric but I'm not sure how many are intentional:

Tossing And Turning

Head Over Heels

The Best Of Me

The Way You Make Me Feel

You Keep Me Hangin' On [not technically 80s but it was a hit then]
