I keep changing my mind in regards to who to put my money on. I always have a flutter for the Eurovision :drama:

Mikolas Josef is greeting the queue and I just got a selfie with him!! Slightly fanboying lots right now.

(I did a bit of an extended post on this thing last year and this year's got a lot more interesting candidates from a hosting perspective so get ready to indulge my overthinking!)

Hosting Speculation

Cyprus - Cyprus have a bit of a dilemma, their biggest indoor arena in Limassol can't hold much more than 6000 people and virtually all their other venues are open air (which makes sens for Cyprus but you do kinda need a roof for a Eurovision Event and all those crowd shots). But even if they do manage to host it in a Nicosia football stadium, there's also a bit of a logistical problem about Nicosia being (I think?) the last divided city in Europe between the Greek Cypriot side and the Turkish Cypriot side. But, the upside of that is the Eurovision could be a great way of getting the current negotiations about the reunification of the Island more international press attention and may even potentially help reunify the Island? #ComeTogether

Israel - Both Jerusalem and Tel Aviv have good sized stadiums that would be able to host the contest. But if the EBU want to keep the contest away from any potential ~difficulties~ associated with Israel hosting then I suspect their preference would be for Tel Aviv should they win.

Sweden - Officially, should Sweden win again it's Gothenburg's turn to host but their arena needs a complete refit of the roof in order to handle Eurovision rather than an MF heat. They could give it back to Malmo or try it in Stockholm's Tele2 Arena rather than Globen, perhaps?

France - Paris would obviously be everyone's first choice as a major metropolis, but Lyon also has a 17,000 seater that would do for the ESC if France wants it outside the capital

Czech Republic - Prague is such an obvious only choice should the Czechs win that there's even TWO arenas for them to chose between should they have to

Germany/Australia - If Australia win then they have to pick a European Country to co-host with, and it's widely believed that they'd go with NDR in Germany with Berlin being their first choice (should either of these two win then that's 30 years after the Berlin Wall came down as well). They could also chose Cologne, Dortmund, Hamburg, Stuttgart or Frankfurt

Ireland - Dublin. Literally no other choices.

Norway - I suspect they'll go with Oslo again, but probably not the same venue as 2010. The Vallhall arena is probably the right size

Lithuania - Vilnius has a perfectly functional 12,000 seater

Moldova - errrrrrrrm they've kinda got Cyprus's problem of not having any suitably sized indoor venues and all their stadiums having no rooves. Chişinău ought to be the first choice but Tiraspol has the bigger stadium so....idk? (and that's before we even get into questions about there being enough hotel space.

Jury final press poll

I'm going to chose to overlook the disgraceful treatment of our lord and saviour Jess M and fan girl at Slovenia making it to the left side of a scoreboard.

Ireland - Dublin. Literally no other choices.

It was held outside Dublin before. I don't remember the capacity of the venue that as used in Millstreet, not much info online.

If something can solve the Nicosia and Cyprus issue it would be a minor miracle. From a geopolitical perspective that would be the most interesting host even if the song wasn't a banger already.

The amount of precision and concentration this takes WHILST singing live must be applauded.

That is just incredible. Easily becoming my Saturday stanning song, I'm very much looking forward for my brothers to see this tonight.

I've not kept up with Eurovision much prior to the contest, so the only entries I've heard in the final are the UK, that clucking women, and half of the Vikings' performance, so I'm going into this evening blind.

They could use drones for crowd shots.

The French HoD has specifically said that they're considering Paris, Lille and Lyon right now for potential host cities, but I'm sure a few more options would come up in the event that France wins. I can't realistically see the first French Eurovision in four decades being held outside of Paris, though.

Unfortunately only left myself with 10 minutes to do this so this isn't as thought through as I'd have liked!
