Interesting that the announcement for his resignation wasn't announced until after tomorrow's front pages were already printed. Once a politician...

Could be another General Election in the offing, which is the last thing we need at the moment. If it triggers May's resignation, it'll probably won't be one of the "characters" that takes over in my humble opinion, it'll be someone outwardly capable like Saviid Javid.

May's resignation wouldn't necessitate a GE, any more than Cameron's did, though.

There won't be a general election, the Fixed Term Parliament Act will see to that.

By the way- the public shouldn't have another vote on it (like the Lib Dems want), that's what got us in this mess in the first place!

Dominic Raab replaces David Davis on the unending conveyor belt of interchangeable tory bast*rds...

Who else but another Tory did you expect them to be replaced with?

You're right. They pretty much are all Tory bast*rds!

They can't *all* be illegitimate, surely... :w00t:

Minority government. Arlene might jump ship. Oops. Bye bye government.

Nonsense - nobody else has the numbers to form an alternative gov't.

Collapsed government = new elections. But Brexit is a poisoned chalice. Let the Tories drink from that so their mainstream media friends can't then pin alll blame on Labour. But once Labour get in next and preside over the ill effects, the mainstream media will blame them for said Brexit effects. Hmm. Only solution is Tories out and cancel Brexit.

Some papers here carried the story. I suspect certain papers were tipped off before the official announcement at midnight.

Strong and stable. Strong and stable.

Strerrrng and sterblerrrr strenn and sterblerrr

Wonder what the announcement will be?? This government is about to collapse!!

Not another one - you must be joking!

Strong and stable. Strong and stable.

What are you lot complaining about - you've wanted rid of Boris for *ages*!

The government is just completely dysfunctional. Their position immediately after the referendum was a little like a project manager being told they had two years to implement something. The deadline was tough, but they had an advantage no project manager would ever have. They got to choose when that two years started. They were also told that they could ask for an extension if necessary.

Of course, once they fired the starting gun they decided to spend the first two months on a completely different project - the General Election. They also decided to draw up a contract - the EU (Withdrawal) Bill, now Act - that included the deadline, thereby making it harder to ask for an extension.

Now, with a little under nine months to go, the project manager has announced that she has finally got round to agreeing a list of requirements with her senior staff, something that might have been worth sorting out before firing the starting gun. Two of those staff have now walked out. One of them may yet challenge the project manager for her job.

He should have been sacked months ago. Instead he has been allowed to flounce out at a time of his choosing.

He should have never been near the post. We harp on about it but if politicians want to be respected for promising a stable government then they should deliver and... well, this is the furthest thing from it.

Coalition of chaos with Labour? It’s hard to imagine a government more chaotic and ineffective right now.

Don't fully understand what happened but it seems like David Davis and Boris Johnson didn't want to upset the Americans and ruin the chance of a US trade deal, so wanted to get rid of the EU rules preventing chlorinated chicken and GM foods. And they weren't happy that Theresa May's decision was to keep such rules, so resigned.

Well this is certainly reassuring that everything's going very well like the PM announced last week...

Another election would be pretty futile, I don't believe there is anyone competent in this current government that could get us through this.

Found this on the BBC newsfeed:

Lib Dem leader Vince Cable has called for the UK to stay in the single market and customs union, which is what he believes the "majority of the house" wants.

He said now that she has lost the support of her "Brexit fundamentalists" with the exit of David Davis and Boris Johnson, he wants her to follow the "national consensus".

But Theresa May quickly ends the speculation, saying the UK will leave both the single market and customs union.

Don't understand why Theresa May is still insisting this AFTER the resignations....

Surely everyone knows now it will be a soft Brexit?
