Completely OT, but why has the 'Tory Lies & Deceit' thread been closed (as @ 10.45am this morning)?

Presumably not because people here think they've turned over a new leaf...

It is very easy to close a topic by mistake. I assume that is what happened here.

That restores my faith in people's detestation of the Tories. :heehee:

Tory MP Phillip Lee is cheered by Remainers as he compares Brexit to the DEATH PENALTY in the Commons after betraying his friend Theresa May by quitting government just HOURS before crucial EU Bill votes

Justice minister Phillip Lee has dramatically resigned over handling of Brexit

The departure comes as Theresa May faces knife-edge votes on flagship EU Bill

Dr Lee said he wanted to voice his opinions on 'how Brexit is being delivered'

The resignation will be particularly stinging as he is a close friend of Mrs May

He also insisted he wanted to 'speak up for his constituents' - even though Eurosceptics pointed out his Bracknell seat voted 53 per cent to Leave in the referendum and the local party chair criticised his move.

So if i put that through the translator he compared Brexit to some thing we now view as cruel and inhuman and as a result he and BFF may had a lil tiff

Not a betrayal. It's having principles that you're willing to give up a cushy job and future for because it's the right thing to do when you're surrounded by rabid, idealistic lying fools. He's a legal expert. You know, the sort of "experts" that Gove, Johnson, Reesfrog hate. Ones that make them look stupid in a fact-based analysis.

May, it might be said, is the one who has betrayed HER friends. Her principles were so deep that she dumped them all in order to become Prime Minister, and dumps them as soon as the Daily Mail readers start to whine on any topic whatsoever. What he means when he mentions the Death Penalty is that it's a matter of CONSCIENCE. Not that any leading Tory Brexiters have the faintest idea what that concept is.

PS

Just came across this tweet which would have saved me saying what I just said. Typical!

Tells you how unpatriotic and anti-British the right has become that it brands MPs who follow their consciences 'saboteurs, 'enemies of the people', 'traitors'. These people aren't conservatives they're Tory MaoistsNick Cohen added,

If, in the future, I am to look my children in the eye and honestly say that I did my best for them I cannot, in all good conscience, support how our country’s current exit from the EU looks set to be delivered. "

Not that I'm cynical :teresa: but ISTM its a lot 'safer' to have principles when you also have one of the safest seats in the country... ;)

aaron banks, BBC:

"Leave.EU, which was backed by then UKIP leader Nigel Farage, lost out to Vote Leave in the battle to become the official Leave campaign in the 2016 EU referendum.

It ran a "disruptive" campaign instead, Mr Banks told the committee, adding: "We were not above using alternative methods to punch home our message or lead people up the garden path if we had to."

Mr Wigmore, Leave.EU's director of communications, said "the piece of advice that we got, right from the beginning, was remember referendums are not about facts, it's about emotion and you have got to tap into that emotion".

He said the campaign had aimed to "make fun" of journalists and his role in it had been that of an "agent provocateur".

Asked what the difference was between provocation and lies, he said: "If you are trying to sell something or put a good case over to somebody you will tell the best story. If that's provocation - or a lie, if you want to call it that, yeah." "

So, I think I'll go with "lies" then given he admitted it was nothing to do with facts and all about emotions.

It's easy to have no principles when you're filthy rich and aren't answerable to the electorate in any way. Call me cynical......

Private Eye are reporting that Jack Mogg has set up a new feeder fund for his investment fund in Dublin in order for it to remain in the EU. Yet more hypocrisy from the lying toad.

So, wants to have EU roots to make sure HIS business isn't adversely affected, but forces the rest of us to lose OUR EU roots. What a c**t.

Hypocrisy Thy Name Is Mogg. I believe Dickens' Mr. Pecksniff is his role model.

It's made worse by the fact that they are always so brazen about it. They know they will get very little - if any - flack from most of the press, so they just don't care.

Meanwhile, Mayhem is already backtracking on her supposed concessions to the spineless would-be rebels on her back benches. As is invariably the case with Tory "rebellions", they have fizzled out to almost nothing as MPs proves themselves to be either spineless or stupid enough to be bought off very easily. In this case, I suspect they are both stupid and spineless.

So true. For once I'm joining in the anti-BBC slagging off as Ive heard Isabellend Oakshit, the woman who sat on evidence of Russian "involvement" with people funding the Leave.EU campaign has been invited onto Question Time, while the woman who made this fact known and showed her up to be a compulsive liar, isn't.

Something suspicious about a show that invites a known liar and propagandist gets an opportunity to spread more lies and propaganda, while the journalist known to chase facts is denied the same opportunity. PS Nigel farage, also a known liar and propagandist is a semi-regular. Giving people the opportunity to have lies as equivalence of truth is not journalism. Journalism is about truth and anyone lying has to be confronted as a liar. Propaganda is about not truth where anything goes. As the funder of the Brexit campaign, and ongoing supporters, still try to justify: foreign interference is fab as long as you get the result you want. Not British democracy, foreign non-democracy.

It has been followed up by today’s Financial Times. Is that good enough for you?

Yes, that'll work - but do they have a paywall?

Private Eye?!

Private Eye is more on the ball about dishonest and hypocritical politicians and rich people than any other newspaper in the world. They research and consult their legal team before publishing facts. Where facts are not as they seem to be they immediately publish retractions, and give anyone single out a right to reply in the letters column. They are rarely wrong. Other newspapers use their short in-depth well-researched articles as later headline pieces.

It depends on what kind of stories you want to read.

If I wanted to read ones on how 'criminals are not really bad people, just victims of circumstance', then I would read the Gaurdian, OTOH,

If I wanted to read ones on how 'criminals are really bad people, and should be locked up for a very long time', then I would read the Mail.

No prizes for guessing which I prefer. ;)

What classes as a criminal?

Tory shading dealings? Lies about Brexit? Should we lock up the Tories for a very long time? What does jail do - is it a productive part of society? Does it benefit society? Or is it a tool to punish the poor and give more power to authorities?
