Yeah, they really nearly killed their career by making the mistake of releasing a good song as their lead single. Lucky they saved themselves by following it with some mediocre Spotify pandering garbage. xxx

(Just being salty really but this feels depressingly true - it seems like pop/dance songs can only take off on Spotify if they're a particularly bland flavour, the more interesting the more likely it'll do nothing)

Current top ten for those who want reminding

1. George Ezra - Shotgun (relatively safe lead, 4:3 ratio over Solo)

2. Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato - Solo (similar lead over #3)

3. Years & Years - If You're Over Me (new peak, around half Shotgun's sales)

4. Tom Walker - Leave A Light On

5. Cheat Codes & Little Mix - Only You

6. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

7. Cardi B, Bad Bunny & J Balvin - I Like It (returning to peak)

8. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

9. Liam Payne & J Balvin - Familiar

10. Anne-Marie - 2002

Girls Like You and Rise still 11 and 12, new Demi drops to 19, XXXTentacion's SAD! still number 20, new Ariana and Nicki down to 34, Paul McCartney's Come On To Me and Au/Ra and CamelPhat's Panic Room hit new peaks at 35 and 36. The Greatest Showman unfortunately already taking Panic! At The Disco off number one album.

That Top 10 really puts into context how out of touch I've been with the charts recently... of those songs I've only ever heard three of them (One Kiss, I Like It, 2002).

Surprising! Jess Glynne's I'll Be There and Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato's Solo have been official UK number ones so not too sure how you've managed to avoid them

I only know 4 myself, most of the stuff that chars nowadays doesn’t appeal to me. I’m getting old

40. Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds- Three Lions

63. Fat Les- Vindaloo

79. New Order- World In Motion

Expect these to climb today.

Meh, 'Sanctify' is drab as hell. Not that this is anything particularly revolutionary or anything, but at least it's catchy.

I don't really think it's a particularly Spotify pandering sound either, I'm completely amazed this is doing as well as it is.

It is completely made for Spotify

It’s very poppy and that doesn’t normally do amazing on spotify

I don't think IYOM is made for spotify - its had better positions on the spotify playlists which has helped. But also they've promoted the song way more than Sanctify ever was.

Like Tawdry i'm amazed its doing as well as it is on both i-tunes and spotify. Sanctify only peaked at 18 on i-tunes despite 59p reductions.

I guess regardless of the songs quality IYOM has for whatever reason clicked more with the public than Sanctify did. Good songs don't take off all the time and mediocre ones do.

22. Tiësto & Dzeko - Jackie Chan (feat. Preme & Post Malone)

35. Paul McCartney - Come On To Me

41. Jax Jones & Mabel - Ring Ring (feat. Rich The Kid)

50. Tom Odell - If You Wanna Love Somebody (Single Version)

107. Ella Mai - Boo'd Up

40. Baddiel, Skinner & The Lightning Seeds- Three Lions

63. Fat Les- Vindaloo

Wonder if Ella Mai’s ‘Boo’d Up’ can be a hit here. It’s smashing hard in the US.

It’s funny to see an artist from London UK do astonishingly well in the US.

Explain your reasoning.

Generic is the only word I need to use

I really don’t see the mass appeal for IYOM. All of the singles from the first album have been superior to the two we have had so far for this album.

England 4-0 to Panama and we're still in the first half!! Big boost for Three Lions is sure to come.

Edit: 5-0 holy shit!

Christ, 6-1...
