It's not often you see a popstar willing give up their spot at the top of the chart, but that's exactly what George Ezra is asking his fans to do this week.

The singer-songwriter is currently enjoying a second week at Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart with Shotgun, but has urged fans to get behind Baddiel, Skinner and The Lightning Seeds' football anthem Three Lions this week ahead of England's semi-final match against Croatia.

"Now of course that's amazing," he said of Shotgun's success in a video online, "But I think it's time we knock it off the Number 1 spot with Three Lions. We go out and we download and we stream Three Lions, and you know why, because it's coming home. Come on England!"

Shame Ed Sheeran didn’t do the same thing at Xmas for George Michael

Shame Ed Sheeran didn’t do the same thing at Xmas for George Michael

Ed Sheeran has a huge ego and wants to be Adele with only a fraction of the talent. He would NEEVER do that. He is also obsessed with the charts, hence why he makes McDonald's music.

Also wrong way, Florence! :(

Music Week say 31,167 Sales so far for 3 Lions

Edited by Jason

Not surprised at the sales of Years & Years..... new album is so bland in comparison to their first one in my opinion. Nowhere near it's heights. :(

here it also says 8k lead

s England prepares to contest the semi-final of the World Cup this Wednesday, OfficialCharts.com can confirm that the song on everybody’s lips, Three Lions, is leading the race to top the Official Chart this Friday.

England’s definitive football anthem, performed by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds, zooms from 24 to Number 1 at the halfway stage on today’s Official Chart Update and, according to Official Charts Company data, has so far accumulated 24,000 downloads and 2.6 million audio streams since last Friday.

Three Lions was originally written for Euro '96 – the last time England qualified for the semi-finals of a major football tournament - and hit the Number 1 spot twice. A re-worked version of the song with new lyrics for the 1998 World Cup, Three Lions '98, also spent three weeks at the summit. Look back at both songs' week-by-week chart runs.

The song is one of the UK's best-selling singles of all time, with both versions combined having sold 1.6 million.

Three Lions is currently ahead of reigning chart topper George Ezra’s Shotgun by 8,000 copies with four days of the chart week left to run, can Three Lions come all the way home?

The only place to find out where it finishes at the final whistle – and whether it will be the UK’s Official Number 1 single for the fourth time in its history - will be this Friday on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills.

Incredible to see Three Lions at Number One, really hope it holds on regardless of how we do on Wednesday.

Also great to see Tom Grennan in the Top 5 on albums, hopefully he won't fall more than a couple of places.

It would be lovely if Jonas Blue and 5 Seconds of Summer can retain their current Top 10 placings.

Wonderful to see the Snow Patrol album rebounding.

Jane McDonald is having a very steady chart with this album so far, her best in a long time.

What is with the new interest in Green Days American Idiot to have back in the chart so high?

Was expecting better sales for Years & Years and Drake to be honest. Looks like The Greatest Showman is after a couple more weeks before Mamma Mia 2

That’s a good gap for 3 Lions. If they win Wednesday, I would say it is in the bag. If they lose, then I think I would prefer to see it just miss it.

3 Lions will likely pick up good sales and streams for the time up to the match on Wednesday to hold the lead for number 1.

The result of the match will determine its success for next week.

I think three lions have number one in the bag even if they lose as they will have a large gap come Wednesday!!

Disappointing sales for Years & Years, if streaming is missing I’m guessing they could end up at #4 which is going to be incredibly disappointing!!

I wonder how many copies of the Love Island Pool Party album has been sold. Be interesting to see as its pretty much advertised throughout Love Island ads every night.
Highly likely that There Lions will be #1 hence with the expected sales and streams to increase in Wednesday.
If England don’t win (But of course they will!) ‘Three Lions’ could have one epic fall from the #1 spot.
