Does anyone know the sales I can't find it in the charts thread they are really hard to navigate lol.

Had Stewart not become the second oldest male soloist to have a No.1 this week, Cher would have become the second oldest female soloist (after Barbra Streisand) so to do with an album of new material. Previously No.1 only with 1991’s Love Hurts and the following year’s compilation Greatest Hits 1965-1992, she debuts at No.2 with Abba covers set Dancing Queen on sales of 22,677 copies more than four months after her 72nd birthday. (Vera Lynn was famously 92 when her compilation We’ll Meet Again topped the chart in 2009, but it contained no new material, with recording dates for its tracks ranging from 1936 to 1960.)

Dancing Queen is Cher’s first album of new recordings since 2013, when Closer To The Truth debuted and peaked at No.4 on sales of 14,621 copies, and delivers her 15thTop 75 entry (including two albums with late former husband, Sonny), arriving 53 years to the week after her first, All I Really Want To Do.

I'm thrilled for ©her. If she was available for UK promotion (say Strictly Come Dancing?), she could achieve even more.

I don't think she will be promoting this album much at all bar the single releases tbh. She is on tour in Australia and that is a heck of a long way to travel for a few days promotion. If she comes to the UK to tour however I'm sure they will be alot of promo.

She should really promote, this album could be a really decent seller for her. Could even see a Dancing Queen vol 2 next year if it does do well.

It's a shame she isn't around to promote it as she could build up some great sales, interesting too how it will hold up this week.
Bloody streaming nonsense! Cher debuts at #3 in the US with 153,000 sales. 150,000 of them are physical sales making her the #1 selling album in physical sales. Such a shame she couldn't finally get a #1 album, god knows she deserves it after 54 years in the business!
Pretty certain that the 150k figure includes downloads - very impressive though!

The album is still in the Top 10 in its third week of charting.

Chart run: #2 - #8 - #9 - ...

UK sales so far: 37,139 copies.

Happy with that! Expected sales to keep slumping down but it dropped by less than 2k this week. Might be too soon to say that's a sign it'll stick around a while yet, but I'll take it as a good thing anyway.

Rod Stewart's still top 5, I'm impressed!

Cher needs to come to the UK and do some promo for this album push it over the gold certification.

Standard vinyl and HMV Exclusive Blue vinyl have been released so should give it a chart boost.

It is the sort of thing that screams "one-off" but to be fair there was calls from the fans for a follow up and all the reviews i read were very positive. I guess Cher is also at the point of her career where she can do whatever she wants basically.

I'd say so given how many albums she's released since 1964

I'm really not here for a second Abba album, might even not buy it or likely will wait until it is reduced. I think this one is pretty terrible (bar one of us which I love). Like why would I want to listen to Cher singing Abba song's when they sound much better in the original form... might as well stick Abba Gold on.

I want to know what this album she was working on two years ago was. She said in some Vegas interview it had never been done before to her knowledge???

It's all very "stick Abba Gold on and pick your fave". She should do some more obscure Abba songs... saying that I'd lvoe a version of 'Lay All Your Love On Me'.

Yeah I would like this second album to have a few lesser known ABBA songs. I guess that proposed tracking list does include 'Rock Me' and 'I Do' though. I think something like 'The Visitors' would work really well for Cher, especially with that slight effect on Frida's voice in the verses.

I think it would have been a good idea to release a deluxe version of Dancing Queen to coincide with the standard and use that as an opportunity to add on three or four more obscure ABBA songs. That way, those that are really interested can purchase that whilst the standard could appeal to the casual fans.
