January 7, 20196 yr I'll take that! Should have won but at least she wasn't resigned to longlist obscurity. Her James Blake collab to be #1 now pls xxx
January 8, 20196 yr Was hoping to see slowthai win, from those remaining fingers crossed King Princess wins.
January 8, 20196 yr Was hoping to see slowthai win, from those remaining fingers crossed King Princess wins. I've been getting the feeling all week that King Princess is gonna win! I think she'll definitely be top 3 anyway.
January 9, 20196 yr Finally got around to listening to 'Doorman' by slowthai/Mura Masa and I really like it, he's very unique among British rappers right now, has a bit of a Plan B / Jamie T-esque gritty punk-ish aesthetic to him which I wasn't expecting. Really hoping King Princess doesn't win, I've heard several songs by her and none of them are anything more than decent oops
January 9, 20196 yr I thought Grace was gonna win so I have no idea now. Maybe King Princess or Mahalia as an outside chance?
January 9, 20196 yr I'm thinking Dermot Kennedy and Mahalia will make up the top 2 seeing as R1 have played them a fair bit over the past few months.
January 10, 20196 yr sure this Dermot wins his label is pushing him big way, he has already been high top 20 on HH, super high on NMF a couple times
January 10, 20196 yr Yep im defintely thinking Dermot too. Shame as I think his music is nothing special or new, but I guess they took a risk with Sigrid winning last year. King Princess was so close!! 2nd is good though I guess. Edited January 10, 20196 yr by TS0301
January 10, 20196 yr Still not quite getting the buzz with King Princess just yet - her songs are decent but nothing stand out in sound to my ears. Like others have said it'll probably be Dermot especially as we had a female winner last year. My feeling is that this won't be a vintage year for Sound of... I think Grace Carter will be the only one to achieve mainstream success in the singles chart from the longlist. Dermot perhaps getting a decent selling album?
January 10, 20196 yr I think it'll be Dermott Kennedy then. Probably won't be Ella Mai because she's already had two big US hits, they usually go for someone who's truly up and coming.
January 10, 20196 yr Quite enjoyed Dermot Kennedy's album on first listen this week. My other half is loving "For Island Fires And Family" at the moment, while I really like "Power Over Me". Though sometimes I think he sounds more like an edgier Brian McFadden than say, a Damien Rice that I think he'd more like to be compared with...
