The Chen-Williams really were a wasted family the more I think about it :lol: Like I totally forgot until I just saw something on Twitter that Maxine is Dave’s daughter! Lizzie was actually great and Mason did have the incel storyline, but as a unit they were really underused when at the time the producers made a big thing out of how much they were going to invest in the show’s first East Asian family. The incel storyline was a highlight for them, but the Honour left and they kind of stopped putting anything into any of them, until the last few weeks with Lizzie and I guess Dave/Cindy but even then it’s just kind of “they’re getting married :)” and no actual storyline or anything.

 

When is the time jump due to take place?

 

I think that was one of the things that initially made me stop watching many moons ago - they either gave you glimpses of new storylines with characters and then just killed them off, or they'd acknowledge and dedicate a whole week to a story with certain characters then they'd go off the grid completely for weeks on end then just show up again to pick up where we left off. :lol:

September when they go down to 3 episodes, they’re going forward a year and they’ve said some of the exits for the cast cut will just be off-screen that they naturally moved on or something happened in the time between. I assume it could be like Neighbours, they went forward 2 years when it started back up and a couple of storylines were kind of mysteries of what happened, why a certain couple had split up, why other things had changed, which was interesting so I think HO would do that well, like say Diane had left in the eyes time jump maybe Tony or the kids would say things to hint at it, and later on we’d find out what happened, it’s quite a good way to keep people watching.

 

I think all soaps can be bad for that tbh, it is an annoying thing to watch sometimes. Some stories like Marie/Arlo have ticked along nicely with enough content, but then stuff like Kitty and Ro’s transition I feel you get loads for a few episodes, then nothing, or just a drip or two. Kitty was kidnapped last week and not a word on that this week :lol:

I think it feels like the pacing is so odd because there is so much going on? We've had big storyline after big storyline so perhaps they're really struggling to pace everything out with the cast changes and drop to 3 episodes. It'll probably be a tumultuous few months before things feel a bit calmer and better paced

Yeah most likely, it seems like the cuts came out of nowhere so I’m wondering if they suddenly got the budget cuts, had to act pretty fast and maybe streamlined or condensed some storylines, so they could all get done before the time jump? Which I’d rather have than them losing things between them and now. Like I feel they’ve been building up to an addiction storyline for Dilly but maybe that condensed into a kind of topical thing about recreational drugs since the two who never did drugs died from them. I think given what’s happened they’ve adapted pretty well!

Warren was never a good character/villain for me, so I'd much rather they just got rid and had Freddie take his place as that kind of character (MUCH more likeable). And the focus on the McQueens is just boring.

AGREED!!! Warren is shit. Invincible, untouchable, but Phil Mitchell, he ain't.

Agreed Warren is a tired villain. 15-16 years ago he was believable but as time goes on, a bit like most long-serving characters, their upkeep of that persona just doesn't last. Anyway,

Warren is on his way out so we won't be putting up with it for much longer

Confirmed today that the geoblock on YouTube episodes will be lifted meaning international fans will be able to watch the show again after it got removed from Hulu.

 

Also want to say that Rory and Kirsty-Leigh have been exceptional these past few episodes.

This. I don't think she's managed to have a conversation at normal decibel level. I think it would've made sense to have her back to reintroduce JJ and Frankie before disappearing again.
