Same - the sign of a truly brilliant episode! The only two Capaldi episodes that truly had a big impact like this for me were Heaven Sent and World Enough and Time, for different reasons entirely of course.

Absolutely!! It couldn't have been aired on a better day really. Let's show the world what we're striving for at a time where some people desperately need a reminder.

Note, also, that the Doctor said that the law in question was abolished on 21 October 1956, 62 years ago today. Of course, that also demonstrates that the move to Sunday and the start date of 7 October was decided months ago :P

Except that the Doctor said that law was abolished on 21st December :P which this year will be a Friday.

What a fantastic episode. This series is 3/3 for me so far but I think this was the best one so far. The only complaint is that I felt the villain needed fleshing out a little more. I’d have been interested to know the details of his crime, which time period he came from. I’m guessing he was a human based on what his goals were.

I saw on DS that they were wondering if he or his organisation will be referred to in future episodes, kinda hope so as I'd love to see more historical flavoured episodes like this and they don't all have to be this heavy.

Oh, I thought she said October  Ah well, Wednesday will be the anniversary of Rosa Parks' death.

The first truly great episode of Whitaker's tenure. The first 2 were fine and she and her companions have been good throughout but the stories have been ordinary so far.

This was special, made more so by rightfully letting The Doctor and co take a back seat (sorry!) to the more important character of Rosa. Loved that they didn't take anything away from her. Nobody else inspired or influenced her actions - it was all from Rosa and it was powerfully crafted - weak villain aside (he'll be back?) it was hard to fault.

I'd like to see the show do more of this sort of thing - using historical events to reflect the present and highlighting important issues - Not all the time, but more often than of late. I prefer it when the show less flippant and it tends to play to its strength when it gets it right. Historical romps like Robots Of Sherwood never compare well against the more thoughtful ones

The more I reflect on this episode, the more I think how incredibly brilliant and well crafted it was. I find their historic ones can be very hit and mess, so was slightly nervous for this. I love most of the all that the 'villain' wasn't really the main villain...that being racism itself. This series has been a much needed refresher and departure from the previous era. But the fact it was Doctor Who and the alien element did not detract in any way from the message and story of Rosa Parks.

I feel like this week I got to enjoy the companions and grew to enjoy them more. In the last two episodes none of them really had a moment where they helped events. But this episode really allowed them all a chance to become involved and make a difference the events of the episode, which is great to see! There some unexpected great comedic moments as well.

I really feel this episode had it all! It didn't need a strong / impactful / well explored villainous character because that wasn't the point of the episode. But having said that, I think we NEED to see them develop one in the next couple of episodes. We're at episode 4 next week and still without a well developed / impactful monster.

I loved this - for all the reasons everyone else has already said, it was a great episode and completely met my expectations.

And I'll only whisper this bit for now but I'm actually warming to Bradley Walsh

I like the idea of them straying away from the whole "monster of the week" gimmick, but at the same time... I really want that to return  I really enjoyed this episode and was gripped the entire way through, I did wish that we got more of the time guy though. I also thought it was a bit strange that the Doctor didn't seem to care that Ryan had basically killed him by sending him to god knows when (actually reminds me of how easy it was for him to grab a gun and try shoot his way away from the robots last week...).

6.4m in the overnights, down 700k. Not going to lie, I’m slightly disappointed but only because it was a fantastic episode and becuase of the highs of the previous two weeks. It’s still well above the last few years and the official ratings will still be around 8m which is huge.

I was hoping for a bit better than that too but it's still a solid rating, and I'm hoping positive word of mouth will help the +7 and +28 ratings!

I was hoping for better due to the strength of the episode.

However, last week's was usual Doc Who, so I understand it shedding. But the word of mouth for this episode is INCREDIBLE. It is getting rave reviews. I think it will go UP next week after this. Its co consolidated ratings will be high. I imagine loads are watching it on record but aren't BARB viewers. I do that a lot, especially with EE oops. Even with the drop it is the second most watched show of the week after Strictly. More people watch this than Corrie, X Faccy, and more than double watch this as compared to the Slaters on EE!!

And tell that to Dinosaurs or cockroach house or almost all Capaldi episodes, especially Robin Hood. You could easily tell from the promos how bad they'd be xD
The AIRED pilot and first ever episode was still called An Unearthly Child!!

Time to back this quote with some additional info, does anyone mind if I do?

An Unearthly Child aired in 1963 and was the first episode of the original series

Rose aired in 2005 and was the first episode of the revived series

And by the way, my thoughts on the new episode. I loved it!
