While I agree it is frustrating, we also never really know what goes on behind tours. They are all living such different lives, both compared to 20 years ago but also compared to each other. I imagine for some of them it would be hard to travel to the other side of the world for a few weeks and leave their families behind. Ofcourse I would have loved to see the tour extended and I really really hope it will happen, it's up to them. They don't own us anything, they have had an absolutely incredible comeback tour and I am super happy they gave us that and, on a personal level, had the chance to attend.

Let's not use travelling as an excuse. Emma has done stints in America the last few years, Mel C travels all over, Mel B takes planes like we take busses and Geri takes her family around the globe following her husband's F1 team.

But is that really the same as touring? The only girl who has toured internationally in recent years is Mel C. And again, it's up to them to make the decision. I think it's mostly Geri's choice to not go ahead and doesn't want to tour internationally for a few weeks and that's more than fair enough isn't it?

She didnt want to carry on touring as she didn't feel like she was any good and she had lost her spark. She was scarred by her GAY set for Angels in chains and that completely put her off performing she thought it would be different being back with the girls but she was still stiff and uncomfortable. That is why the Netflix's documentary was pulled too.

That is what I've been told and it would fit. I think time has made Geri miss it more and probably reflect less harshly on herself which is why she changed her mind again this year.

I don't have any special insight...but this does sound pretty right to me. I've wondered if we didn't get releasable recordings of the Return of the Spice Girls tour because of Victoria and Geri's lack of performing confidence...and then didn't get the 2019 tour recorded because of just Geri. The girls always try to play off the lack of recordings as a "oh, we just didn't get around to it!" But. Realistically. Performing at Wembley Stadium...I'm sure it crossed a few minds to record that big a moment.

In terms of Geri's spark...I think it kinda came and went with the most recent tour. She seemed to be having a blast in every performance of Never Give Up on the Good Times I saw. On the flip side, she seemed to be sleepily going through the motions on early performances in the show like Spice Up Your Life and Who Do You Think You Are. It's only accentuated by the fact the other three girls are in such fine form and giving their performances 100%.

To be fair, I've seen that sleepy thing with Geri on occasion throughout her career. It's in her Ride It performance at GAY. It's in her Scream if You Wanna Go Faster USO performance in Oman. My guess is she thinks she's playing a role...making things dramatic with the slow movements...though it actually comes off as though she's disinterested. It wouldn't *seem* to be an unfixable problem. Just...don't do that slow motion thing?

To her credit, I thought she sounded good vocally on every recording of the 2019 tour I heard.

I'm almost certain Geri mimed most of her lines to pre-recorded 'live' vocals. There is a video of the team getting things ready in Dublin and Do It is playing as they do checks and it has 'live' vocals but the girls weren't even there as it is the day before the show.

All the show had a backing live pre record but Mel B, Mel C didn't use it much and Emma used it some. I wouldn't be shocked if Geri didn't sing a single note live the whole tour. Some of Geri's miming was very obvious like her Spanish rap in IYCD.

I definitely noticed it on the videos I've seen of If U Can't Dance.

But to me, it seemed like she was plausibly singing her solos on, say, Say You'll Be There, Goodbye, and The Lady is a Vamp, for example. To me, she was hitting the notes, but it didn't sound so flawless that it would be a studio recording. But. I'll readily admit that I don't really know. I didn't get to catch one of the shows in person. I'm just basing this off phone video of varying quality. I hope she didn't lip-sync the entire tour. But if she did...it'd be more reason for her to feel inferior to the other three...

They all recorded 'live' vocals, it is a common thing for pop groups to do so if one member gets I'll or loses their voice etc they can just mime along to the live vocals recorded. The idea of doing that is they will not sound like a cd is playing and miming along, there will be obvious differences to the studio vocals so people still think it is live.

Yeah. I know that's a thing. I have a number of friends who have done production work for live tours and residencies...and I'm aware there are more artists that lip-sync than people think.

I'll preface this by saying I've never known someone to work on a Janet Jackson show. But I'm a big fan...and I've seen her twice. And I'm not sure she sang a note live either time. To my ears, she seemed to only be handling the spoken bits. Fabulous dancing and stage presence. Incredible setlist. But yeah. Not sure if she sings. And she's definitely not alone.

But anyway. With the girls, I can tell a lot of the choruses are boosted with a track...and that certain solo bits are tracked (Emma's 'whooooo do you think are'). But it sounds to me like a lot of it's live. But. Like I said. Phone videos. If any screen footage gets leaked, I guess I'd know better.

I seem to remember hearing somewhere that Melanie C was the only one who sang pretty much everything live on TROTSG tour and that the other 4 had plenty of backing track!? I don't get though how some can have backing tracks but others can't surely it's all or nothing?

They all have their own individual backing track with their own vocals on it.

It seems the promoter in Bangkok has been teasing and asking the fans about the Spice Girls tour after the pandemic.

The Return tour was mostly live and the new leaks prove that. Mel C, Emma and Mel B seem live everywhere to me, and Geri has some mimed bits. Victoria clearly mimes her verse in Viva Forever, but she is also mostly live.

Last year's tour, you could tell that tehy use a follow track - in some videos you can hear the follow track come up whenever one of them messes up their lines. But Geri clearly mimed whole sections such as If You Cant Dance and Love Thing. It's too obvious.

However, Geri also sings live in many other places, such as her verses in Viva Forever, Goodbye, etc. It's pretty obvious it is live and she does it well.

I do think that the lack of a full recording has to do with Geri and Victoria not being confident with a professional release. The Return suffered from Victoria being OVER IT (her words) and wanting to move on to fashion. It totally makes sense that she probably wouldnt want a new recording of her out there.

Same with last year. They recorded it, so it is quite obvious that there was a stumbling block there. My bet was that when Geri pulled the plug on extending the tour, Netflix also said 'well, then there is no incentive for us to release this' and backed out too.

There are parts of the documentary I really want to see like them getting the plaque for 680k tickets and the sit down interview on the sofas. So annoying they wont even just upload that sort of stuff to youtube.

Imagine if they’d filmed the tour and included the documentary and then for those who didn’t want a DVD could have the choice of paying to download it from iTunes and then the YouTube clips could have been trailers/promos advertising the release 😭

There are more tickets to sell for them. Giving away too much during this time, it could get stale.

Probably just being hopeful and trying to show the girls the demand is there.

It has to be the whole region to make it worthwhile. They can play arenas and charge high prices in Asia before heading to Oceania. Something like Madonna's Rebel Heart.

Can I ask what you mean by promoter in Bangkok? Do you have a link?

Thanks
