It's almost 4 years since this album was released now :o

It’s here!! :D :D :D

This album though! It’s so close to overtaking. I think the fact it has no features really helps too like we were used to having a lot of features on her albums up until this and then this showed she’s a star all on her own and can carry a whole era by just her and her vocals and presence. The fact this album was recorded so fast too! She was just truly in a zone!

Oops I could've sworn that I replied to this at the time  but I love that remix!

It's a really strong album - think I'm overdue a relisten tbh - but I just wish she did more with the era. At that point, Ariana would have been one of the few artists that would get streaming support from a post-album single, even if she had to release a new version. Any one of 'NASA', 'bloodline' or 'bad Idea' would have been great choices. I've never been able to settle with the idea that the album should be the final part of an era, aside from the tour.

'ghostin' has to be my favourite on the album and up there with the best songs Ariana has ever done. Gets me every time!

yessss 100% a career highlight  she understandably never wants to perform it due to the emotional impact but I'm grateful that she put it out there in the first place as it is stunning.

I can't help but look back on this era in a bit of a sour way every time I'm reminded of it, knowing 'Bad Idea' and especially 'Bloodline' were right there but somehow didn't get released. :(

Don't even get me started. It was such a huge album yet It could have touched much higher heights, having 'Bad Idea' as a spring single and 'Bloodline' as a Summer single would have seen the album multi-Platinum and two of the best selling singles of her career. I'm sure of it.

'bloodline' seems to be having a bit of a viral surge (particularly in Asia), it's been her most streamed song after 'yes, and?' this week.

Oh yes I have noticed it a bit on TikTok!

This album re-entered the Billboard album chart this week :cheer: I revisited it myself in the lead up to 'yes, and?' coming out, still one of her best.

Rolling Stone have published a new 'The 250 Greatest Albums of the 21st Century So Far' list and this album landed at #61 *.*

This is what they said about it:

On Thank U, Next, Ariana Grande refused to perform her pain for the sake of pop spectacle. She knew the world would be watching to see how she would package the trauma she experienced following the death of her close friend Mac Miller and the disintegration of her highly publicized engagement. The therapeutic hit “Thank U, Next” and the trap-influenced pop dream “7 Rings” marked the inception of a defining pop phenomenon. Grande distilled her grief into the heart-wrenching ballads “Ghostin” and “Needy,” then positioned both next to Herculean pop efforts “NASA” and “In My Head.” Just as impressively, she subverted expectations in moments like the ‘NSync flip on “Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored.” All this defined her as one of pop’s most compelling stars. —L.P.

 always here for a 'ghostin' shoutout.

Ariana spoke about this album a bit in a new interview:

"(The music) poured out with urgency and was made with urgency, it was a mean of survival and the label understood that; but they were also very hesitant to stop Sweetener dead in its tracks and move on to another album so quickly. At the time, it wasn’t common unless it was rap music or hip-hop but I didn’t really care about the formula and I didn't want to play by the rules at this moment, because this is what I need for my soul. It felt really healing and freeing and it was such a beautiful moment of connection again."

“I needed to be doing that, I was doing so much therapy and I was dealing with ptsd and all different kinds of grief, depression and anxiety and I was of course treating it very seriously, but having music be a part of that remedy was absolutely contributing to saving my life. They were dark times and the music brought so much levity”

Glad this project was so healing for her and I still love it a lot. Just realised it's the 6th anniversary this month :o

This really doesn’t feel like 6 years wow!

What an era this was for her though!

I know right, today marks exactly 6 years since she released thank u, next so happy birthday to this project :cheer: a big step up in success and acclaim for Ari.

I heavily associate this album with starting a new job in 2019 and only last month I finished at that job and started a new one! I'll have to revisit this album ASAP.

Happy Birthday thank u, next!!! :cheer:

As the dust has settled, I think this is my favourite album of hers. Every track hits and concluding with the three massive singles leaves it on such a euphoric note.

'My Everything' is definitely the album I've listened to the most and 'Dangerous Woman' holds some special memories but this just about edges them out.

Ooh high praise *.* I think it’s my second favourite Ari album still behind Dangerous Woman, with eternal sunshine snapping at its heels in third.

I’m revisiting it now and the lyrical themes surrounding mental health still hit hard, ‘ghostin’ is such a stunner for me especially. I’d say I’m not as into trappy production now as I was in 2019, but most stuff here is ageing well, especially ‘in my head’ on relisten.

So grateful that I got the chance to see her on this tour.
