Posted November 29, 20186 yr Coldplay’s Official Top 20 biggest songs on the UK's Official Chart 29 November 2018 | By Jack White They've had plenty of big ones, but these are officially the biggest of the lot... Coldplay have been a dominant force on the Official Charts for nearly two decades, and now they're releasing music under a new name. The Chris Martin-fronted group's new alter-egos Los Unidades can be heard on the Global Citizen charity EP, which sees them collaborate with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Stormzy, David Guetta and Stargate. Back to Coldplay, they've topped the Official Albums Chart seven times (ALL of their studio albums have peaked at Number 1), but what about the singles? As any rock band will tell you, it's all about the songs, man. They’ve scored 23 Top 40 hits, including 18 Top 10s in the process, two of which were chart-toppers. You can check out all of Coldplay's singles and albums and where they charted here. But which of their big ones come out on top when sales and streams are combined? 1: Something Just Like This Coldplay's collaboration with The Chainsmokers is the band's biggest track of all-time when we look at all forms of music consumption (1.45 million combined sales). 114 million audio streams and an impressive 300k downloads put Something Just Like This at the top of the tree. The song catapulted to Number 2 on the Official Singles Chart following a performance at the 2017 BRIT Awards. 2: Viva La Vida (2008) The band’s first Number 1 was a long time coming – after nine Top 10s, the guys were definitely due a chart-topper. The follow-up to Violet Hill, the titular track from the band’s fourth studio album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, has combined sales of 1.44 million, split between 880,000 sales and 57 million streams.See the full Top 100 from the week Viva La Vida was Number 1. 3: Paradise (2011) There’s nothing quite like a slow-burner on the Official Singles Chart, and Paradise certainly took its sweet time. The group’s second chart-topper, it finally reached Number 1 on its tenth week in the chart, knocking off Military Wives and Gareth Malone's Wherever You Are. to be the first Number 1 of 2012. Paradise has sold over one million in pure sales (Coldplay's only million seller) and has been streamed 37.8 million times. 5: Fix You (2005) One of the band’s signature ballads, Fix You was written by front-man Chris Martin for his then-wife Gwyneth Paltrow following the her father's death. Their ‘conscious uncoupling’ would follow nine years later, but the song is still a huge crowd-pleaser - it peaked at Number 4 and has achieved 1.24 million combined sales. 7: Yellow (2000) So here's where it all began, with their very first Top 10. Coldplay’s breakthrough hit went straight in at Number 4 and was taken from their debut album Parachutes, which has sold over 2.6 million copies. The track has shifted 1.07 million combined sales to date, including 583,000 pure sales and 49 million streams. 10: Princess Of China (2012) Rihanna isn't shy of collaborating, and this unlikely one with Coldplay was a Top 5 hit in 2011. Both performed the track at closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, helping it reach Number 4 on the Official Singles Chart. It's combined sales stand at 798k. November 29, 20186 yr What a terrible track to be no1 Coldplay seller! Christmas Lights to move up a spot by next month!
November 29, 20186 yr 'Something Just Like This' being #1 here is deeply depressing. Literally the worst song they've been involved with.
November 29, 20186 yr As much as I love Something Just Like This it’s a shame to see it as their best seller. Great to see good sales for Fix You! By far my favourite track they’ve done!
November 29, 20186 yr They badly need to release a Greatest Hits CD soon. It's well overdue. Just do what everyone else does and make a Spotify playlist of their hits!
November 29, 20186 yr 'Something Just Like This' being #1 here is deeply depressing. Literally the worst song they've been involved with. Quite. I mean it's OK, but that's just insulting with a discography that flawless. Viva La Vida's fairly close and will definitely age better so hopefully that takes over soon. Never been much of a fan of Hymn for the Weekend either :( I always thought Fix You was higher than that, but I guess their two number 1s were big sellers, wonder if it will pass them eventually.
November 29, 20186 yr no way is SJLT their 'biggest' song!! 'Everglow' above 'Speed Of Sound' is madness too. I expect in time 'Viva La Vida', 'Paradise' and 'Fix You' will re-overtake... very pleasing sales for VLV and FY considering when they were released anyhow. great to see sales for the whole top 20 too.
November 29, 20186 yr You have to laugh don't you! Hadn't realised "Everglow" had been creeping up so high, though, atypical of the era we're now in. Stunning song, love the single version so much  One of my all time Coldplay favourites.
November 29, 20186 yr SJLT is a banger, very happy to see it up top. I actually prefer Coldplay's more recent releases, I love Hymn for the the Weekend, Adventure of a Lifetime and A Sky Full of Stars.
November 29, 20186 yr Just do what everyone else does and make a Spotify playlist of their hits! I would buy the greatest hits physically - just for the cover art etc.
November 29, 20186 yr Being a million seller has lost all meaning and prestige. Coldplay having their top 8 singles as million sellers just makes me laugh. In 10 years most popular artists top 5 minimum songs will be million sellers.
November 29, 20186 yr You have to laugh don't you! Hadn't realised "Everglow" had been creeping up so high, though, atypical of the era we're now in. Stunning song, love the single version so much  One of my all time Coldplay favourites. Yeh Everglow is class, wish it was the opening single of that era!
November 30, 20186 yr Obviously songs released in the 2003-08 era will have sold less due to the changes in consumption at that time!
November 30, 20186 yr They badly need to release a Greatest Hits CD soon. It's well overdue. No i'm disagree, if Greatest Hits CD will come out, their all studio album sales will drop.
November 30, 20186 yr You have to laugh don't you! Hadn't realised "Everglow" had been creeping up so high, though, atypical of the era we're now in. Stunning song, love the single version so much  One of my all time Coldplay favourites. Everglow was released by 5th official single from A Head Full of Dreams. But they didn't promote enough.
November 30, 20186 yr Obviously songs released in the 2003-08 era will have sold less due to the changes in consumption at that time! yes you're right. Additionally , Coldplay can't promote their pre-2011 singles. Coldplay is album oriented artist at very beginning. Only Yellow, Scientist,Fix You are stayed timeless.
November 30, 20186 yr 'Something Just Like This' being #1 here is deeply depressing. Literally the worst song they've been involved with. Stop hating please, until Something Just Like This Coldplay didn't produce massive hit song. The Chainsmokers are helped them well. Maybe 'SJLT' is only widely known Coldplay song. This is not bad.
November 30, 20186 yr Everglow is very high! Very happy though, my favourite song from AHFOD and in my all time top 3 Coldplay songs too probably! I like the single version but the album version is still so much better tbh  Up&Up is fab too, a great album
