Those are unreal streams - I wonder how many sales Mariah will officially have now? Can anyone work it out? OCC might amend lthursdays streams if it's close in sales with a non Xmas track. Don't think they'll want her at no1 for some reason - pity it's such a quite week for the chart and we will only get a quick rundown on Friday and MTV usually replace the top 40 with a top 40 of the year for most of the week so they are t playing Xmas songs until 4th January lol

740k for Kelly!

And above Leona! OMG!

You can really see the 'global' nature of Spotify with the biggest Xmas hits on Xmas day - a lot of the hits which only do well in Britain do less well here such as the Pogues! It def gives them an advantage!

I don't see why the OCC wouldn't want Mariah to be #1? That'd be a pretty big story, surely they'd want to have publicity for what the #1 is two weeks in a row...

A shame to see The Pogues slipping a bit on Christmas Day streams but still 1.2 million streams for them today is pretty great and they're doing alright to still be as high as #6 considering the heavy lean towards global hits over more UK-centric ones on Spotify (at least they haven't totally gone the way of Wizzard and Slade yet, despite being literally the last song on the 2 most followed Christmas playlists on Spotify). Plus they still managed to get to #3 prior to the Christmas Day update.

Indeed why would the OCC care it's a big event a song reaching No.1 24 years after release, no one is going to publicly mention that it's technically all fixed by where you are placed on spotify it will just be wow Mariah reaches No.1 finally just a shame it is so fixed other Christmas releases don't stand a chance of every getting to No.1 for first time as Mariah is now classed as the ultimate Christmas song in the western world.

Yesterday All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey 1,637,877

Lol that was me quoting my prediction post from yesterday to show that I was right to have guessed 1.6m+, but thank you B-)

I also don’t see why OCC would be so adverse to a classic Christmas song finally reaching #1, it would be a big story for them. Mariah reaching new peaks in the Billboard Hot 100 is something that Billboard makes a big deal out of, it gets a lot of attention on social media.

Fingers crossed that this week is finally Mariah’s moment for #1!

Such a shame Wham! were kept off the top spot last year by Ed Sheeran as I think they will never get that chance again.

Don't worry he usually copies everything from here and most of Dan's work, no wonder the member is called Cheeky Magpie, what a cheek :D

Oh that is surprising, Love Underneath The Tree. I wonder if Leona is affected with the song in a way being 'out of date' come the 25th.

I imagine that'll also be because Kelly is more of a global hit than Leona.

But Leona’s been constistently higher (and by quite a large margin) than Kelly every day this month.

For the past 3 years, One More Sleep hasn’t seen the same surges on Christmas day as other Christmas classics, no doubt because it’s about Christmas eve.

I said 1.65 yesterday for Mariah! I was so close.

That might be a factor as well but I don't think it's the only reason. If you look at the rest of the chart though it's pretty clear that the Spotify bias to international hits has more sway over it today than any day leading up to it - The Pogues, Slade, Wizzard, Chris Rea, Elton John, Shakin' Stevens, Coldplay etc. all dropping while nearly all of the ones climbing are by American artists, which indicates more people are just whacking on a playlist in the background on Xmas Day without skipping any tracks than on the previous days.

I’m surprised Santa Tell Me dropped though, considering it’s high up on all the playlists, and track 1 on the second biggest playlist.

If someone goes "Alexa play Santa Tell Me" does it count anywhere as a play towards the charts, or if someone goes "play Christmas songs" do they count towards any charts?

How would this explain the big interest in Shakin Stevens and Kylie this year and the continued interest in Chris Rea and The Pogues if they are dropping here but increasing over there?

The Pogues and Leona suffers the fact that their Christmas songs are local UK hits...It would be different if they were US hits.. that translate on being at the bottom of the biggest and GLOBAL Christmas playlist "CHRISTMAS HITS"(guess lots of uk listeners played this playlist too) ...look where is Kelly and others in that playlist

The chart is made first and foremost for the music business though, and it's not helpful for new product to be overshadowed by Christmas songs - hence why they changed the rule in the first place.
