December 4, 20186 yr The right wing BBC was always going to miss the point. BBC is so left wing it's untrue but they missed the point on this article
December 4, 20186 yr BBC is so left wing it's untrue but they missed the point on this article No, no. Check the studies and watch their news/ Questiontime etc. It is extremely right.
December 4, 20186 yr Author BBC is meant to be centre, but sometimes it tips to the left and sometimes to the right. Even though they’re not supposed to.
December 4, 20186 yr The BBC is generally establishment-biased, they are the ones that are paying the bills after all (and most prominent BBC editors at the moment are currently known to have views supporting the government). We currently have a right-wing government, so... right. Here, though, banning is much more of an effective topic draw than just censoring, so rather than politics, I think I'd put it down to the other failing of the BBC lately, their desperation to attract the crowd with flashy headlines and clickbait. There's a lot more than there was a few years ago.

December 4, 20186 yr I’m wading into the debate way too late to have a particularly original take :kink: but for me consistency is key, so if radio stations continue to impose regulations that include the censoring of profanity/offensive words then I certainly think this falls under that. This is a derogatory term towards a particular group in society and many of those get censored all the time, so why should this be any different? If it was the n-word used in the context of an argument then it’d certainly be censored no matter what due to the shock value. This term is very offensive to members of the LGBTQ+ community and times have changed, no right thinking member of society would use it now like in the 70s. As for causing offense - all you have to do is read some of the saddening stories in here that result in the word being so triggering, so I think the same standards should be applied in this case as well. It is a bit weird that this gets such a pass, when it’d be censored in other songs. You can argue about context but it IS an offensive word no matter what in 2018, something doesn’t sit right with me when stations will absolutely decapitate a song with censoring but let this slide. Have some consistency for all offensive words please if you’re going to censor in the first place. I’ve seen this debate on Twitter this year also :o the worstttt take ever is “snowflakes are trying to ruin Christmas by banning Fairytale of New York!11!!’ - hun, if you actually read what people were saying then it’s merely the suggestion of bleeping out the offensive word (/words if we include $lut too) - Christmas is hardly cancelled xx (Actual straight person holding this opinion, soz dirty straights)
December 4, 20186 yr Lol ass was ok but arse was derogatory  The use of the American term ass rather than the British arse wasn't as ubiquitous in the 1980s as it is now. Back then, most Britons would have said that an ass was a donkey.
December 4, 20186 yr Author Yas Jade <3 repping for the heteros. Really appreciate what you wrote, I’ve seen some shit takes on Twitter too. I wish we could censor the word ‘snowflakes’ too. Actually that gives me a an idea for my festive name.
December 4, 20186 yr https://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/nor...e-37591980.html This was from the Belfast Telegraph today - seen it on twitter - its about Baby, Its Cold Outside. Completely different situation and I'm just passing this on and don't necessarily agree with the content. Nice username Joe lol Edited December 4, 20186 yr by Christmasteve201
December 4, 20186 yr Author I’ve seen a About the lyrics in Baby it’s Cold but it’s not like that’s the only song that’s a bit dodgy in the same sense. Look at Blurred Lines!
December 4, 20186 yr Look, also, at Delilah, one of Tome Jones' biggest hits. It's about a man who murders his wife.
December 4, 20186 yr Yeh we could be going down a ridiculous route here - so many songs are like this!
December 4, 20186 yr Yeah if we're talking about songs that should be banned in this day and age, there's so many. I heard Inner Circle's 'Sweat (A La La La La Long)' on a local radio station last weekend and it only then occurred to me how disturbing and inappropriate the lyrics are and I couldn't believe they're playing it on the radio in 2018, when it's essentially about rape: "And if you cry out, I'm gonna push it, push it, push it some more." Surely some radio stations must have banned it by now. Apologies for the slight tangent I've gone off on.
December 5, 20186 yr Listened to The Pogues on MTV earlier and they muffled out the bad words including the F word!

December 5, 20186 yr This is an absolute reach! I take that lyric as crying out in ecstacy not rape Yeah I suppose you could see it like that, but sexual assault is what comes to mind for me when I hear that chorus, in the same vein as Blurred Lines I guess, and a quick google search reveals that I'm not the only one who thinks that.
December 5, 20186 yr Listened to The Pogues on MTV earlier and they muffled out the bad words including the F word! Which is why I don't watch MTV (amongst other reasons, admittedly).
December 5, 20186 yr MTV is at least doing something right even if I feel like most times they can be OTT with their censoring but that's another story.
