God the overreaction is hilarious, just how petty do you have to be to get so passive agressive and angry over a novelty song going #1. This is a good thing, it's been the first genuinely exciting battle for #1 in ages. Saying it's 'everything I hate about the UK' or whatever it was- really?? it's a bit of fun.

Looking forward to that record breaker drop next week

Still selling pretty well at present though, right? And maybe it could stabilise a little with the #1 news. Monster chart declines are more suited for tracks that peaked early in the sales week and have already run out of steam at the start of the new one, like perhaps Mariah if she gets there next week.

The "lighten up" stuff bothers me a bit. Sure, it's a bit of a laugh and it's interesting to see quirks like this in the chart, but I know I just don't get any humour from it at all and find it a little embarrassing really. I'd much rather have seen Ava there - I wasn't particularly interested in having a battle either way, but seeing an unknown artist getting their debut #1 on the Christmas chart would definitely be something to write home about for Ava!

It's not even about novelty/humorous songs in general either, I enjoyed Freaky Friday earlier this year and that's just as silly but for me, it works much better as a song than this cringefest.

I think if I'd be more bothered about this if I gave enough of a damn about Ava. I just can't get into her at all and find her overrated.
I'm bored of hearing "lighten up" remarks - it's a chart forum and we express opinions, it would've been a huge platform for Ava! I'm all for novelty/charity songs if done well but this is a load of old shite and I'm annoyed at it being #1. I always find it so odd that people get so pressed on here for other people being annoyed - the FOTNY debate, female artist top 3 celebration, now this. Worry bout yourselves hun.

I’m bored of people complaining about the no.1. Again, it’s a Chart forum and an opinion I am expressing.

I quite enjoy this Ladbaby song. Yes, it’s not good (novelty songs never are though so I really don’t get this ‘I wouldn’t mind if it was good’ argument at all) but it’s for a great cause and I really enjoy the video watching a family having loads of fun and enjoying themselves. There was a time when they were close to poverty and now they’ve had a Christmas no.1 out of nowhere which is amazing for them. To me, it’s things like this that Christmas is all about.

And yes it would have been amazing for Ava to do it but let’s face it her song will hang around for a long time after this and will be much more remembered. She had a great opportunity but it wasn’t to be. Even if she had got it, it wouldn’t have been a particularly memorable Christmas no.1.

Also if there wasnt a battle the midweek and chart show threads wouldnt have been so busy. Its been a long time since they have and its welcome.

I must be in the minority because i love both ava and ladbaby.

Hopefully babyshark can repeak giftcard week

To be honest there has been other novelty tracks that have been to #1 in the past around Christmas, Bob The Builder, Teletubbies, Mr Blobby, etc etc. Its nothing new, its not going to stop artists getting a novelty #1, you always going to get the odd one getting there, at least they are having their 15 minutes of fame, it will soon fizzle out, when the track falls like a brick next week. Its like marmite, love it or hate it.

okay this constant cycle of getting pissed at people getting pissed needs to end NOW. All of you need to f*** off immediately plz and ty

Aren’t you getting pissed at yourself with that statement

But seeing an unknown artist get their debut #1 on the Christmas chart IS definitely something to write home about for Mark (aka Lad Baby) and his family! If anything he was even more unknown than Ava, so should be an even better result by your arguement.

We love indirects.

You always have something to say about anything I say, just put me on block if it bothers you? Like I said, don't know why people get so worked up about people being annoyed - it was tongue in cheek what i said anyway.

I'm so happy that Ladbaby has gone #1 and it's just a bit of fun! I don't care about the word f***** in a Christmas song, how silly people getting offended by that?! oh god here we go buzzjack loving female artists again

I think it's quite clear how different Ava and LadBaby are though, and what their future prospects as artists stand to be...

That was an awesome chart week, if only it could be a close race like this every year - although with the final sales it probably won't be remembered as "close" at all! I was worried that the Christmas #1 was losing its meaning and excitement so hopefully this will keep the hype around it going for a while longer. I would've been happy with Ava winning too and hope she'll still have her chance. 'We Built This City' has really grown on me over the week ngl!
Personally, aside from it being a good cause, I have no feeling about the ladbaby song it's just a bad song for me so probably one of the worst #1's of the year along with like Freaky Friday :'). You are entitled to your opinions that its fun or great #1 but to me it's not.

Just listened to the original We Built This City and found on Genius that Starship came from Jefferson Starship, which in turn came from Jefferson Airplane. Didn't know that the same people that did Somebody To Love also evolved into the band that did Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now. Also, I heard that many people detested the original WBTC, even Grace Silk disowned it. I think that song is very good

My thoughts on the LadBaby versoin. It's okay, there has been some amusement coming from this sausage roll anthem.

Iconic and brilliant chart moment - when Westlife were DENIED the Christmas number 1. :D

Indeed a classic chart moment!
