Is it really that out there to say the biggest hit of the year might be a future classic? I know a lot of y'all don't like 'God's Plan' (not the right demographic etc.) but it's definitely a significant song that will be remembered well.

I like Drake as I said Nice For What has a tune to it but Gods Plan is like a trap beat and sounds awful. As a hip hop and r&b fan I think the genre is generally terrible these days apart from the UK scene which is quite fresh and dynamic!
Voted for that boring overrated Ariana song.

Favourites:

1. Drake - Nice For What (narrowly the strongest of Drake's trio I think but they're all close)

2. Clean Bandit feat. Demi Lovato - Solo (didn't love it when it hit #1 but it's kept growing on me a lot, safely my favourite of theirs since 'Rather Be' now)

3. Drake - God's Plan

4. benny blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside

5. Drake - In My Feelings

6. Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises (my favourite #1 of his since... 'We Found Love'? his list of #2s is better though)

Also good:

7. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

8. Dave feat. Fredo - Funky Friday

9. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

10. Ariana Grande - thank u, next ('No Tears Left To Cry' would be in the top few, as would 'God is a woman', 'the light is coming' or 'sweetener'. I get why this connected better though and I respect it)

Ok:

11. Eminem feat. Ed Sheeran - River

12. George Ezra - Shotgun (but one of the most annoying songs of 2018 as far as chart longevity goes)

13. Rudimental feat. Jess Glynne, Macklemore & Dan Caplen - These Days

14. Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

Unwanted:

15. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - Shallow (easily preferable to the bottom 3 though)

16. LadBaby - We Built This City

17. Ed Sheeran - Perfect

18. Lil Dicky feat. Chris Brown - Freaky Friday 🚮

01 Clean Bandit - Solo

02 Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next

03 Benny Blanco - Eastside

04 Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper - Shallow

05 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss

06 Drake - Nice For What

07 Rudimental - These Days

08 Drake - God's Plan

09 Lil Dicky - Freaky Friday

10 Dave - Funky Friday

11 Jess Glynne - I'll Be There

12 Eminem - River

13 George Ezra - Shotgun

14 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises

15 Ed Sheeran - Perfect

16 LadBaby - We Built This City

I only really go out of my way to listen to the Top 3. 'Eastside' gets a hard time on here :(.

I feel like 'Eastside' takes it for me, it's just utter gut-rot.

It's so forgettable I forget it was a number 1

I was tempted to pick God's Plan, Perfect and LadBaby too. But 'Eastside' edged it.

I still to this day have avoided ever hearing 'River' even once, I feel so blessed.

how did you manage to never hear River?

I even heard it randomly this morning at the gym, was played on the speakers

I can only put it down to sheer luck.

I know I had work which coincided with the chart shows around the time it was around, and must have just avoided ever hearing it elsewhere.

To be fair the only times I've heard River was when I chose to listen to it. I have never heard it by accident and I haven't heard it in many months either.

really? VH1 plays River on a regular basis

sadly I hear it accidentally all the time

I'm not sure I ever heard 'River' outside of the chart show, and I certainly haven't heard it since it left the chart. It definitely sticks out as the most easily avoidable #1 of the year (maybe alongside 'Nice For What' unfortunately), it was really bizarre seeing it become an instant hit and sticking around near the top for a good few weeks because it always felt like a bit of a hype vacuum even at the time.
