Without a doubt that Ladbaby embarrassment, I don't care that it was for charity either, surely people can just give the money to the charity :drama:

Yes but it raises awareness to a not very well known charity

With all the drake hate this year supprised not a landslide for him

It’s hard to believe the only song without a vote has Sam Smith on it tbh

LadBaby - heard about 30 seconds of it on TOTP and it was just painfully unfunny and cringeworthy

River, Perfect, I'll Be There & These Days would all be easy choices for me as worst, besides LadBaby

Don't like any of the Drake songs but at the same time I'm pretty indifferent to them

Eastside is really poor and surprisingly I at least find Freaky Friday funny and listenable

Best : Baddiel & Skinner & The Lightning Seeds - Three Lions

Worst : Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next

Is it really that out there to say the biggest hit of the year might be a future classic? I know a lot of y'all don't like 'God's Plan' (not the right demographic etc.) but it's definitely a significant song that will be remembered well.

But a lot of people literally can't remember it a few minutes after listening to it? Can't see it being remembered all that well in the long run, except perhaps its title and the fact it spent 9 weeks at the top, but not the actual song itself. I'd put the three Drake tracks and Funky Friday as the least memorable number ones of the year personally (though In My Feelings is probably slightly more memorable than the other 3). I voted for Nice For What in the end, but it was close with Funky Friday.

Yes, many, many times a week since it was released. I have paid close attention to the lyrics and I know she has been through a lot but I find the music/melodies very drab. No Tears Left To Cry is much more up my street.

Agree that Thank U Next was something of a snoozefest. I think the fact it stuck around so long at the top, whilst not being as good most of Ariana's music, was a big factor in people wanting something different to be Xmas Number One rather than just shoeing her in for week 7, and was part of what led to We Built This City getting to the top, which at least added one great song to the list.

I'd say Nice for What is miles better than Gods Plan but thats all due to the Lauryn Hill sample <3

You need to put in perspective however that the enduring hits are more or less decided upon by the youth. As much as the forces in power might try as hard as they can to pretend hip hop doesn't exist, it'll only gain more widespread acceptance as those kids who love Drake now, age into more prominent positions of power.

My ranking would be as follows:

1) Funky Friday

2) God's Plan

3) Shotgun

4) Eastside

5) Thank U, Next

6) Three Lions

7) Nice For What

8) In My Feelings

9) Shallow

10) Promises

11) Solo

12) These Days

13) River

14) I'll Be There

15) We Built This City

16) Perfect

17) Freaky Friday

18) One Kiss

I don't hate any of them actually, we've had a decent selection of number ones this year but Sweet But Psycho would definitely go first now though!

I don't really think hip hop isn't a force, it's been around since the 70s I just think Gods Plan was rubbish!

And I wasn't retorting to you thinking as such! I just think people miss the greater picture when they're surrounded in a musical echo chamber. A song getting a million streams in a week is so often seen as meaningless if 'none of my friends are talking about the song!'

Precisely, drawing on the point you're making it all comes down to social circles really. For me God's Plan was without any shadow of doubt the biggest song this year - it was literally impossible not to hear it out/played by a friend etc. for a good few months. One Kiss on the other hand, was very big don't get me wrong, but was absolutely dwarfed in comparison.

At the other end of the spectrum, thank u next had a very strong run at #1 but doesn't seem that mammoth to me...

Yeh true but some people in my social circle are into that type of music but I wouldn't say it seems as huge. Also just lookin at the track objectively it just sounds awful but then that's just my opinion coming across I suppose.

I keep hearing people in the street and people at work quoting it/singing it...
