Charts are ‘diverse’ in 2018?

Ok then....

Mariah Carey misses out and next year I have a feeling Wham could beat her to the top spot with the Last Christmas movie coming out

I hope Wham! get Xmas #1 next year seeing as Ed robbed George of it last year

What about Ava robbing Mariah of the #1 this year :o

Ava didn’t release a 1000th version of SBS deliberately for Xmas week like Ed did with Perfect

Perfect the duet version #2 with Ariana Grande, coming Christmas 2019

They are in terms of genres and music. However the turn over of hits is still so slow. If we are going to have ACR it needs to be 7 weeks. When it was CD singles how many CDs were even stocked for 10 weeks?

Xmas songs clogging up the charts for a month certainly doesn't help.

Yes but in the days of CD singles, there was a 6-week build-up and most songs peaked in their first week. Nowadays, a song can quite often take until week 6 or 7 to peak, maybe even later.

Christmas songs have no real bearing over the turnover of hits. In fact, they speed the chart up way more than they otherwise would. Look at the top 40 I posted above and how many pre-existing top 40 hits are still hanging around despite being on ACR too...

The chart you posted above has 10 new entries new peaks. That is 25 percent.

Most of which will happen next week anyway, so what's the loss?

I can barely tell most songs apart in the weekly charts so I’d have to disagree with you on that one.

I’m really not sure why you’re so against Christmas songs. Are you the Grinch or something?

 this was over a year ago now!! How dare Ed for promoting his single, more artists should learn from this!

Just get recurrency rules like Billboard does :P

I don't think the UK should copy anything from Billboard - now that is a fixed chart!!

He could’ve easily released Perfect 1000 any other time. He quite clearly released it the week it would count towards the Xmas chart to get Xmas #1

How DARE Ed want to achieve something so prestigious :o so greedy!

Seriously, Ed's allowed to be ambitious just like anyone else...

Artists have been releasing these kind of singles from a big album from earlier in a said year for decades now - George Ezra released Hold My Girl sonits peak airplay would be the end of December because its more of a slow wintry ballad that would appeal to the public in the same way he knew Shotgun would sounds immense in the heat of July!!

Just catching up now, and it’s crazy seeing 2002 as high as #12, I completely forgot how huge that was!

Sooo glad that One Kiss managed #1, it really does feel the biggest of the lot!

He could’ve given up a week at the top for Wham! like Bieber did for the NHS
