  • Super disappointing as it’s the store I use the most and have attended some great events there - at least Fopp is still in central London until if/when the open another flagship store. This was great

  • It started off as an independent chain but was sold off to HMV in 2007

Best wishes.

Pity you can’t go to your local store.

Strange you would have thought they would have been online vouchers with Barcodes, not everyone is willing to travel 100 plus miles to collect vouchers.

The Oxford Street store is closing again, but due to landlord greed it seems with astronomical rent increases. They're trying to find another location to have the the flagship store still in London.

My local one is approaching its first year anniversary since reopen and it still remains one of my favourite stores to visit.

It’s just not right that those tat shops can afford the rent but an institution like HMV can’t

The landlord wished to double the rent. Not fair.

This was great to see from the article though -

“It came as the chain, which has 123 stores across the UK, reported a 15 per cent uptick in sales in the first nine months of the year.

Revenues for shops and online trading are set to reach £240million, up from £212million in 2025.”

It's reassuring to know HMV as a brand is going strong and that this isn't because they're struggling, but still gutting to see them lose the flagship store for such a ridiculous reason. Hope they find an alternative location in central London as it's a place I love to visit, though Fopp and the relocated Westfield store are both great too.

I had no idea Fopp was HMV until I went to the one in Cambridge and went "why are their price labels the same as HMV?" and then it all clicked when I paid and got a receipt.
