6th. Oh Father =5 Votes

Welcome to Round 9 of Madonna's "Something To Remember" survivor polls and after quite an event-full journey 'Oh Father' drops out in a respectable 6th place, leaving 5 left in the running. This does come as quite a surprise that this would drop at this stage considering that it won the points round a couple of polls ago and was immune in the following, and funnily enough didn't start gaining votes until after that. Considering what's left in the running its surprising that its managed to stay this long and did put up a fight, with 'Rain' not being far behind with 3 votes, then finally 'Take A Bow', 'You'll See' & 'Live To Tell' each gained 1 vote each. 'Crazy For You' was the only song not to get a vote in the last round.

"Oh Father" was originally recorded for her 'Like A Prayer' album in 1989 and released as the 4th single from that album in October 1989 in just a few markets including the USA where it peaked at #20, making this her first since 'Holiday' to miss the top 10. The song didn't get a full European release until 1995 when it appeared on her "Something To Remember" album and got released as the album's 2nd single in the UK where it peaked at #16, where it became one of three of her hits at the time to miss the top 10. Now this has to be one of Madonna's most powerful and saddest songs of her career and its with the songs music video is where this really shines, sad ballad is harrowing, shocking and violent-maybe the most important art movie/video/small screen statement Madonna has ever made to her Ciccone Name. As for the song itself its one of the few times Madonna ever really lets you take a sneak peek at the real her as she attacks with personal passion and accompanied by some overdubbed self-harmonies that feature a very controlled and effective use of Madonna's voice, and this may not be to everyone's taste, you gotta admit the song's a moving number and something very important in her back catalogue and if you're a true Madonna fan, then this will surely connect to you.

Okay just 5 left now, same rules apply just vote for your Least Fave, from the remaining selection.

Shame 'Oh Father' just missed out. The Top 5 are all worthy selections, but 'Rain' is my least fave.

'Live to tell' MUST be Top 3

The next round will be coming tomorrow, if this tie doesn't break then I'll have to get rid of them both.
