It was written by Perry, Christopher "Tricky" Stewart and Monte Neuble. Lyrically, "Circle the Drain" candidly focuses on a former lover's drug-addiction and the strains it put on both of them. Following its release, several media outlets reported it to have been inspired by her former relationship with Travie McCoy. Critics were divided on the track, with some finding Perry to be in a hypocritical position, given the album's other material. Other reviewers found it nice to see a different side to the singer. Capitol Records released the track as a promotional single two weeks before the album's release on August 10. The song achieved modest charting, with its highest peak position being number 30 on the Canadian Hot 100. It charted similarly in New Zealand and managed to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 at number 58. "Circle the Drain" has been performed by Perry on her 2011 world tour, California Dreams Tour. On the tour, she was dressed in a catsuit and the stage was decorated in cartoonish meat. Concert reviewers gave her performances mixed reviews. April 16, 20196 yr Was 'Save As Daft' even a single, wow that totally passed me by, rubbish choice anyway and an awful song that's one of many from a not very good album, At least 'Hey, Hey Hey' had a video, but again a terrible song from something that doesn't have many good choices, however this is what I would have chosen from the 'Witness' era as singles = 'Chained To The Rhythm' 'Roulette' 'Swish, Swish' 'Witness'

April 17, 20196 yr Rise was awful and is a big reason why the Witness era didn't do as well as it could have, it sucked much needed hype.
April 17, 20196 yr 'Rise' wasn't great, but that story about how one of the Orlando survivors connected with it around the time really hit me in the feels.

It was released as the second single from her fourth studio album Prism (2013) on October 16, 2013. Inspiration for the song came primarily from a humanitarian trip to Madagascar that Perry made in partnership with UNICEF. Having been surrounded by what she described as unconditional love, she co-wrote it with the song's producers Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Cirkut to reflect that feeling. "Unconditionally" is a power ballad styled in rock, backed against a bassline and percussion. Commercially, it peaked within the top ten in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Italy, Lebanon, and South Africa as well as the top twenty in Australia, Austria, Canada, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia, and the United States. The single release was promoted with an Instagram-based campaign, a lyric video directed by Aya Tanimura and live performances—one of the latter, at the American Music Awards of 2013, was the center of controversy due to accusations of cultural appropriation and racism. Brent Benacorso served as the director for the track's music video, which adopts the theme of love and uses a series of metaphors to enrich its concept. XjwZAa2EjKA
April 18, 20196 yr shame to see 'rise' go so soon. but i agree w/ rob that it kinda ruined the witness era. the hype was totally gone after that
April 18, 20196 yr 'Rise' - We waited 2 years for a new Katy Perry single and what do we get, this limp turd that YES I do agree that it killed any hype for 'Witness' (which turned out to be almost as equally terrible), and by the time it came around the bad taste of this was still lingering. It just didn't cut it and since all the controversy with the awful Dr Luke, her career hasn't really recovered and everything that came after 'Prism' has been lacking and doesn't have that same spark that her first 3 albums (NOT including 'Katy Hudson') had. Something's definitely missing and got a feeling that she may not recover. 'If We Ever Meet Again' - Really liked this at the time, but has now aged terribly and don't enjoy it anymore. '365' - I struggle to remember this, really hoped that this would have been a return to form after the terrible 'Witness', but sadly its just very average and feels as if its missing that special something that could have made it great. However this is still better than about 95% of her last album.
