Kylie Minogue is made the Office of The Order of Australia for her contribution to arts and entertainment!! :cheer:

The following article is pay-walled so I'd just show the content below. Olivia-Newton John is made Companion of the Order of Australia.

Two of the nation’s most admired pop stars, Olivia Newton-John and Kylie Minogue, have received accolades for their enduring work as part of the Australia Day Honours.

Newton-John was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia for her eminent service to community health, particularly for people living with cancer, through her support for medical research.

“I am delighted and honoured to receive this very distinguished and special award,” she said. “To be presented with this esteemed recognition by the Governor-General fills me with gratitude and pride to be Australian.”

After being diagnosed with breast cancer in July 1992, the British-born artist and actress — best known for her starring role in the 1978 musical film Grease, alongside John Travolta — became one of the nation’s most visible survivors of the disease.

Minogue is made an Officer of the Order of Australia for her distinguished service to the performing arts as a national and international recording artist and entertainer.

“I am delighted to have received the news that I have been made an Officer of the Order of Australia,” she said. “I am humbled and proud.”

Her debut album, Kylie, was released in 1988 and her career has included five No 1 albums in Australia and Britain, as well as 16 ARIA awards and induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame.

In other recognition for musicians, the four members of vocal group Human Nature were awarded with Medals of the Order of Australia.

Classical music composer Elena Kats-Chernin was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia, while singer, songwriter and theatre director Lou Bennett, who performs with the folk trio Tiddas, was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia.

Kylie looks so excited there.

Probably the same look i would have if i met Kylie myself.

It was quite brief, because she was being urged to hurry up by her security guard - but she was very nice. She gave me an acknowledgement, said "Thank you" and signed my ticket. I tried to get a picture with her but couldn't manage that.

She was tiny, I'm 5' 5 myself and she came up to my eye level wearing heels. It's an experience I'll never forget, but I am determined to get that picture with her one day. That ticket is one of my most prized possessions.

I have always wanted to meet her but have never came close. A work colleague of mine some years ago worked in a hotel in London and kylie was staying there and they said she was very down to earth and very friendly. They met Madonna there too at a different time and did not find the same.
Ya probably but madonna doesn't seem as laid back as kylie and I don't mean that in a bad way, madonna in interviews seems to have a more stern personality than kylie. I dont mean stern in a bad way either I think madonna is more aware of her status than kylie.

From seeing various Madonna interviews i sense she has full control of her interviews and in a sense has stipulations.

Kylie's interviewees feel more natural and laid back.

Facebook reliably informs me that it's 8 years today since I met the lady herself! :o

It was a moment I won't ever forget.

Literally the nicest person to meet right? She sometimes comes across a little shy but always makes time for fans where it’s safe to do so.

Super random story but even more random that it’s newsworthy enough for his team to block it twice

Irish prime minister wrote heartfelt fan letter to Kylie Minogue, FOI reveals

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar sent handwritten letter saying he is ‘huge fan’ and offering to meet singer in person before her Dublin concert

The Irish prime minister used official letterhead to write a fan letter to Kylie Minogue, freedom of information documents reveal.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar sent a handwritten message saying he was a “huge fan” of the Australian pop star, offering to meet her in person ahead of her Dublin concert in October last year.

“Dear Kylie,” he wrote. “Just wanted to drop you a short note in advance of the concert in Dublin. I am really looking forward to it. Am a huge fan!

Kylie Minogue to play 'legend' slot at Glastonbury 2019

“I understand you are staying in the Merrion hotel which is just across the street from my office in Government Buildings. If you like, I’d love to welcome you to Ireland personally.”

The department of the Taoiseach twice blocked the freedom of information request from The Irish Mail on Sunday, before Varadkar consented to the information being made public.

The department initially blocked the request because the letter was written “in a personal capacity” and did not “relate to matters arising in the course of the purpose of the Taoiseach’s functions as the head of government”.

Sadly, the Australian pop star had to cancel the October concert mentioned in Varadkar’s letter, due to a throat infection.

But Minogue personally called him to apologise, and finally met with the leader at a rescheduled concert in December.

Varadkar then had to deny accusations he had received a free meal at the concert.

I've been made aware of a post on social media saying I had a free meal at a concert the other night. This is not true. There was no meal, we only had drinks and I paid. I have the receipt to prove it too.

Varadkar also made international headlines last month when he brought his partner to meet with US vice president Mike Pence, and spoke against homophobia and LGBT discrimination.

This was all over the press here in Ireland when it happened, even in his interview he had said he was a life long fan and was super excited to meet her.
