Ego as lead would’ve been great if like mentioned it was released a free earlier.

Also keen for Cheryl’s demo of Break Your Heart to leak. I remember hearing at the time she recorded a demo and thinking that it would e been a big hit for her, charting internationally.

@JulianNial @-Jay- @Liam.k. 2 weeks after 'Issues' was certified Gold, and 1 week after 'Just Can't Get Enough' was certified gold, 'All Fired Up' is now certified Gold!

I don't think 'Ego' would have managed to beat 'Oopsy Daisy' to #1 since it sold over 82,000 in it's first week, so I'm pretty confident if they stuck to that release week it would have been a #2 hit as 'Forever Is Over' was... however, had it been released the week before, it for sure would have beaten Taio Cruz's 3rd week at #1 with 'Break Your Heart' (wish Cheryl's demo would leak...) which had just under 43,000 sales. Realistically I could have seen Ego go in #1 that week with sales of around 60,000 to 70,000 being knocked to #2 the following week by 'Oopsy' but maintaining a lot more longevity than 'FIO' which garnered just under 39,000 in it's first week then plummeted pretty quickly out of the charts.

'Higher' had already managed sales of over 124,000 by it's release week, as a lead it would have had to have sold exactly half that to take the #1 from 'Club Can't Handle Me' compared to 'Missing You's' 57,000... Completely realistic and doable. However, this would be a world where the 'Flo Rida' collab didn't happen which was a massive factor in it's boost in popularity. So it's an interesting one.

If 'Higher' was the lead, would the Flo-Rida version have even existed? Wasn't the Flo-Rida remix to help boost it coz that is what happened a lot around that time to post-album singles?

I would have loved both 'Ego' and 'Higher' to have been their leads (my 2 fave Saturdays singles), but I'm not sure if 'Ego' would have worked as a lead and was fine as a 2nd single, it would have been better for 'Ego' if it was off the back off of a bigger hit, imo. Idk why they opted for 'Forever Is Over'... genuinely one of the screechiest, shoutiest songs I've ever heard. Vile. Should have been 'One Shot' or 'Lose Control' that led that campaign imo, followed by 'Ego' and then either OS or LC (whichever wasn't lead) to then moving into the 'Headlines' EP and having 'Higher' as the lead from it and then releasing 'Here Standing' or something.

True that it might well have done, Flo Rida was a huge name. To me though it seems more common for post-album singles and I don't believe the collab was even considered until Flo Rida beat them to #1 for the second time. Another note, I don't know how Flo Rida's A&R would have felt about putting a feature track against his lead single, but of course release timings could have been amended.

Good choices! As much as I hate to leave out 'Missing You', I even feel a reissue of 'Wordshaker' with 'Higher', 'Puppet' and 'Karma' on would have worked a charm.

Actually, I think 'One Shot' followed by 'Ego' followed by 'Here Standing' could have perhaps made the Wordshaker campaign a success and even resulted in a decent selling album!

Agree, agree, agree!

I just realised I don’t have a The Saturdays playlist on my Spotify, I’ll need to fix that.

I do have one on my iTunes but I don’t use that much now.

Omfg SCREEECH!!!! That song is just SCREEECH!!!

Missing You is cute but like I would definitely rank it in my bottom 5 of their singles. Higher charting during release week as well just shows what a massive missed opportunity it was as the lead.

Forever Is Over did it’s job I guess in terms of chart position.

A singles run of:

One Shot

Ego

Here Standing

Higher

Karma

Would’ve been great. Maybe a ballad in place of Karma, but that’s one of my favourite albums tracks from them.

Perhaps another remedy would have been to delay the album until the week after Ego was released, but of course they wanted those Christmas sales. I don't know if 'Karma' would have worked good as a single, it's like a cheesier rehash of 'Ego', I'd rather have had 'Puppet' but mainly for the iconic music video it would have been accompanied by.

I always think this timeline/choice of singles would've been best...

1. Forever Is Over (2009 October)

2. Ego (2010 January)

------ALBUM RELEASE----

3. Lose Control (2010 April)

4. One Shot (2010 July)

5. Higher (with Flo Rida) (2010 October)

-----RE-RELEASE RELEASE----

I would've moved Wordshaker's release date to Q1 2010, instead of Q4 where it's busy and then bombarded with christmas/holiday albums. I also think a steady flow of singles would help the album's longevity as well as giving them hit singles. I think FIO would've pretty much done the same but One Shot and Lose Control stood chances of being hits. Especially the latter which was used in St. Trinnians for godsake!

I agree with someone who mentioned Higher as the lead and a pre-release before Headlines/Wordshaker's release. I'd just keep Missing You as an album track.

Standard tracklist:

01. Forever Is Over

02. Ego

03. One Shot

04. Wordshaker

05. Denial

06. Open Up

07. Flashbaack

08. Lose Control

09. I Can't Wait

10. Deeper

11. Here Standing

Re-Release tracklist:

12. Ready To Rise

13. Higher (with Flo.Rida)

14. Karma

15. Missing You

16. Puppet

17. Had It With Today

18. Died In Your Eyes

19. Higher (Solo Version)

20. One Shot (Starsmith Remix)

Releasing a re-release a year later, allows them to promote the singles and tour throughout the year, whilst leaving enough space for Notorious/On Your Radar in the spring of 2011.

Very good point, perhaps Puppet was the better fit. I can see both having iconic videos though.

That’s amazing, I love Bailey, they live literally round the corner from me. Need to find a way to be friends.
