That record is going to keep getting broken over and over methinks^

'HOT TO GO!' became only the fourth song to register a 15th new peak position in the Top 100. 'I Love You, I'm Sorry' and 'The Door' would join it if they improve on their current peaks.

 

Disturbed - The Sound Of Silence equalled the record of 29 weeks in the Top 50 without reaching the Top 20, set by 'Dog Days Are Over'.

Updated everything as of this week. 'Iris' will likely overtake 'Chasing Cars' to move into 4th place for most weeks in the Top 100 over the next fortnight.

One thing I'd missed recently is the most weeks Top 75 without going Top 30 being taken by Gracie Abrams - Close To You, now on 39 - the previous record of 30 for Ruth B. - Dandelions is still the most without going Top 40.

At the start of 2023, ACR had been in existence for five and a half years, and the song with the most weeks in the Top 40 while on SCR was 'Someone You Loved' with 32. Less than two and a half years later, ten songs have reached that mark of 32 weeks or more, as 'Bad Dreams' and 'Beautiful Things' have done so this week.

I believe The Sound Of Silence has now overtaken Evergreen on most weeks without going to ACR- 53 weeks on the chart during 2024-2025!

Thanks for the mention - I'd added a caveat about that at the bottom of that list (on page 2), since it was on ACR by default before its reset and long run on SCR before going back to ACR! However the same probably applies to 'Evergreen', so arguably that shouldn't top the list anymore either way.

Edit: I've reworded the criteria for that list slightly: "Songs with most weeks in the UK Top 100 before first* falling to ACR" and put 'The Sound Of Silence' top with 'Evergreen' second.

Some stats to highlight this week:

Frank Sinatra - My Way held the record for most weeks in the Top 40 with 75, from 1971 until 2021 when 'Fairytale Of New York' was the first to overtake it, however it still had the most of any non-Christmas song... until now, its successor for that title is of course: Benson Boone - Beautiful Things

As for the songs which have spent the most weeks in the Top 40 on SCR since the introduction of ACR in July 2017, here's how the top 10 looked on 7 April 2023 - years in brackets denote when each run on SCR began; for songs with multiple runs on SCR starting in the same year, the number of weeks in each run is shown, separated by + and in the case of multiple spells on SCR, those which came after the one in which the song peaked are in bold with any of these which were the song's longest spell highlighted in red:

Two things to note:

(a) The leader of 2 years and 4 months ago, when ACR had already been in existence for almost 6 years, has now disappeared from the top 10;

(b) Half the top 10 now consists of songs which had their longest spells (all 20+ weeks) in the Top 40 on SCR from a reset which came after they had peaked, while of the other five, 'Cruel Summer' also racked up 20+ weeks from post-peak spells. This contrasts with the top 10 of 28 months ago where only 3 songs had any post-peak spells at all, the longest of these being 10 weeks. TL;DR - ACR was reasonably effective until just over two years ago.

That number of post-peak "spells" lasting longer than the original runs is absolutely shocking! ACR work properly again challenge...
