lol but that was never in doubt, especially in July when you usually need 10k

what matters is that Divide opened with 672K in week 1 and this looks like it could even miss the 100K mark

Why are we still comparing it to Divide’s sales?! :drama:
Is there anything to compare this Album to? Ie has any other A Lister tried an album full of colabs?

of course we have to compare it to Divide, it's his last album,

people will compare Adele's 25 to her new one...

that would be a fair comparison too but actually I never ever in my wildest dreams thought he might be doing less than Lewis

There isn’t really anything to compare it to, it’s not really something that’s been done before!

Well we don’t, because this album is completely different. If Adele’s album is full of collaborations with the likes of Eminem and 50 Cent you couldn’t compare it to 25, because like this album it doesn’t appeal to the same people!

This thread transitioned so sharply from ironic 'flopping' to unironic 'flopping' so suddenly :P

Even if you take away the different scope of the project, it strikes me as a similar case to Taylor Swift's "reputation". Obviously a comedown from the previous album, but that was such a high that he's still pulling crazy numbers anyway, "reputation" was still the #1 album on Billboard's 2018 End Of Year chart, and I imagine Ed Sheeran will probably land at #3 if not higher here.

Do the public generally care that this isn’t a ‘proper’ Ed album? I’m surprised it’s made that much of a difference tbh. It’s still an album full of Ed Sheeran songs and it’s still been heavily promoted.

I think all the rappers on the album are putting quite a few typical Ed fans off. So there's that too.

the label is definitely promoting it like Ed's comeback album not a side project, his label are promoting and advertising this like crazy. Not to mention a lead single with Bieber,

the several singles pushed to radio and streaming outlets, the track with Khalid being track #1 on every existing Spotify playlist etc etc

looks like his streaming points won't be bad but

what he's lost is the fans that buy physical copies if he's really gone from 232K physicals in day one for his last album to just 20K now

It’s not a “side project” it’s a mixtape. LSD flopping was because Diplo, Labrinth and Sia was a side project that didn’t receive the right kind of support... because it was a side project that was just for their own artistry basically. Song wise this is nothing like Plus/Multiply/Divide (Best Part Of Me could be a standard Ed album song, but I Don’t Care definitely not).
His next release will be back to the symbol album names and will be a better comparison. As someone said this is like a side project or a mixtape!
