One or two in the party may be, just as there are racist and homophobic people in society and probably other parties, still but you can't say the WHOLE PARTY is racist or homOphobic.

Given a vote for The Tory party is basically an endorsement of Boris Johnson who is a racist liar I'd say yes the sweeping statement is accurate

There's no use trying, you won't EVER get through to him on that one unfortunately.

I thought you progressive types were supposed to hate stereotypes?

Johnson has banned the Daily Mirror from the Conservative battle bus.

This is EXTREMELY concerning. You cannot say there is freedom of the press if a mainstream, and notably one of the very few left-wing, national papers is left out.

It sets a dangerous precedent.

It would be more concerning if they were banning them from covering his campaign at all - is that what you claim is happening?

Of course not, and you know I’m not.

This is a mainstream newspaper being excluded from coverage and access that all other (notably the others are mostly all right-wing and bow down to anything Johnson says) newspapers are being granted to at a very key moment in our political history. One this starts to happen and is gotten away with then it lays down a foundation for more extreme steps to be taken.

It's their bus though. They can do as they like. Would you have your enemy, someone who criticised you round for dinner? I certainly wouldn't. Same as you could throw me out of your home if you wanted or a shopkeeper can ask a customer to leave his shop and not serve them.

It’s not the same thing at all. Surely you can see the difference.

Sorry but the analogy IS the same. Some so-called friend calls me all the names under the sun then comes to visit me. They shouldn't be shocked if I don't let them cross my threshold! I'd say the same if Labour had banned a newspaper.

It really isn’t, and I’m sure you know it. The mainstream press should be able to cover an election without barriers being out in their way. If politicians don’t like criticism, they are in the wrong job. They certainly aren’t fit to be PM.

All fine and dandy when journalists are banned from covering political figures, nothing to see here.

I thought vid and common sense would be defenders of the free press given how often they come to the defence of the Mail. Turns out it’s only for the ones that agree with you.

To be entirely clear, this has nothing to do with complaints about the right-wing press, that is mostly focused on their love with untruths and propaganda. In a better world they’d still exist but few would take notice. This however is journalistic censorship and has no place in any democratic society.

1. Then what's the problem?

2. I guess MM's paranoia is spreading...

Excuse me?! I am happy for the press to publish whatever it wants about the campaign, as long as they don't abuse their privileged access to politicians. In return, politicians should learn to be more careful of what they say in public.

It’s actually concerning that you’re failing to see the significance of this. This one step now allows a precedent to be set to take further small steps that go against freedom of the press. If we don’t open our eyes now, we walk blindly into dangerous territory.

It absolutely is not the same. I actually refuse to think you genuinely believe that it is.

Putting yourself in the firing line for criticism is a given in the world of politics. You are involved in the running of a country for christ sake. Banning a newspaper from coverage of an election campaign simply because they happen to be more critical of what you are doing, notice the inconsistencies in what you are saying, and aren't glossing over and ignoring all your faults is not OK. I actually don't believe that you and Vidcapper think it is either.

P.s.....come off it...If Labour did some like this you would be the first person to throw your toys(toys bought with tax payers money that has been handed to you) out of the pram.

Surely even you can see this sets a very dangerous precedent?

Meanwhile, Johnson’s utter incompetence continues. Yesterday, he spoke about plans to raise the income level where people start to pay National Insurance contributions. First, he claimed everyone would immediately be £500 better off. Wrong.

First, people over retirement age don’t pay NICs, even if they are still in work. They will gain nothing.

Second, the proposal is that the limit will be increased gradually. The initial increase will mean a reduction in payments for most people of less than £100 per year.

There is no timescale for increasing the limit to align with the income tax threshold. In any event, that would save people approximately £464 per year, still some way short of £500.

Johnson put the cost at £1.2bn. Others say it would cost many times more.

After this latest blunder, he withdrew from a planned interview with the BBC.

Imagine if Dianne Abbott had done something similar.
