It’s actually concerning that you’re failing to see the significance of this. This one step now allows a precedent to be set to take further small steps that go against freedom of the press. If we don’t open our eyes now, we walk blindly into dangerous territory.

Again confirming my theory that MM's paranoia is spreading...

So banning a newspaper from coverage of an election campaign simply because they happen to be more critical of what you are doing is OK?

They're *not* banning the Mirror from covering the election. With spin like that, perhaps you should be working for Boris. :P

They are making life much harder for the Mirror. They are restricting access to the PM in a way that doesn’t apply to any other mainstream publication covering the election. Why do you think that is OK?

Don’t patronise me.

Normalising this type of behaviour is allowing them to make further more restrictive steps.

Ok, should have read the original more carefully(late night last night) but the point still stands. Is it OK to take restrictive action against a publication simply because they are more critical of your actions and question what you are doing?

Now...no eyerolls or playing devils advocate for the sake of it(because y'know...thats your whole schtick) Can you just answer the above question please?

It's comical that anyone on the right could pretend that they'd be unbothered and accepting of Labour restricting access to their most critical newspapers.

The Express and Daily Mail would likely call Corbyn a communist dictator over it — but with Johnson it's business as usual.

If I may ask a genuine question - if Jeremy Corbyn restricted access to those papers in the same way that Boris did to The Mirror, would you criticise Corbyn for doing so?

Absolutely. It's not about Corbyn or Johnson — it might seem small but it sets a precedent that could worsen with time. It goes against the entire premise of a free press.

Of course, I dislike both newspapers and wish they would stop writing sensationalist rubbish, but my personal feelings about them here are pointless.

I wouldn't, as those papers have abused the freedom of the press. They aren't newspapers, but propaganda sheets for the government. They an't be called part of the press.

But that's not the right answer. Those papers do need to be reigned in on their propaganda absolutely, particularly during an election period, but that is not for politicians to decide - rather a media regulating body without government input.

Anyway, Labour manifesto is out, as is the Lib Dem one which was released... yesterday. Just the Tories to go (just holding back to see how they can misdirect people searching for Labour using Google Ads of course, liars and charlatans as they are).

I was thinking perhaps, once they're all out, a separate thread with links to every manifesto (including SNP/Plaid/Green/NI parties) in the first page might be good - encouraging them to be read. I've only skimmed the Lib Dem and Labour ones thus far but the Labour one is looking pretty beautiful from a quick glance.

A form of media should only be restricted if it is widely considered and accepted that it holds widely extremist views.

There may be concerns with aspects of the Daily Mirror but I don’t think ANYONE can consider it extremist and it is no worse than the likes of its counterparts.

The Tory manifesto is, apparently, being published on Sunday so a separate thread could be created then.

Perhaps you could explain in what way she is self-centred. Bear in mind that a new Lib Dem leader's first task is always to raise their profile with the electorate.

You might also consider whether it is humanly possible to be more self-centred than Boris Johnson.

And answer came there none. What a surprise.

You appear to be responding to yourself here?
