Olly Murs and James Arthur stans will be fuming. Such a good achievement for Harry. I really thought he’d wrongfully get snubbed bc they seem to hate X factor acts unless in big categories unless it’s the ones what are viewer voted that’s where they usually stand a chance. Good for him. Hope this means he performs on the night now too. He’s high profile enough too, nominated in two major categories. Could be a real moment for his solo career too. January 11, 20205 yr Almost all of these nominee lists feel even more boring and safe than usual. Album of the Year's nominees literally being the same 5 artists as Best British Male pretty much sums it up. The International Male award is a little more interesting mainly because Tyler, The Creator getting a nomination is a pleasant surprise (BRITs treating him practically as well as the Grammys did!) and Bruce Springsteen and Burna Boy feel like slightly curveball nominations too. But then it'll probably end up being the award with the single least interesting winner as it's pretty blatantly gonna go to Dermot. Shoutout to FKA twigs as a moderately interesting nomination as well I guess ~ (and International Female is a super strong category even if it is just all the names you'd expect, give or take a Taylor). (D-Block Europe is also a slightly surprising nomination but I'd rather have another predictable one than that garbage pick)
January 11, 20205 yr best positive surprise is Lana being up for best int'l female <3 I thought Taylor and Pink would be there too but this category is always a bit random... but think Billie eilish will win over Lana biggest shock is the Ed snub, he's not even up for best male! genuinely shocked! thought the ceremony was gonna be a lewis vs ed fight but it's gonna be a lewis vs dave instead bit disappointed they missed Dido, but guess she's still not cool enough :/ and a couple of big jokes, nominating D-Block for Album of the year, come on... and Mabel being nominated again for best newcomer 2 years in a row is hilarious :D but also kinda insulting to all new artists
January 11, 20205 yr The same person being up for Best New Artist two years in a row and all the Album of the Year nominations being exactly those of British Male really shows how much they're running out of ideas here, such a dull set of nominations and one female artist nominated in the 25 slots in mixed gender categories is rather questionable, partly about the industry currently than the awards themselves (I suppose Haim may have made it had they not axed International Group for some reason). Lana beating Taylor to a nomination and Ed Sheeran being snubbed is a pleasant surprise I guess (or maybe they'll save "Global Success" for him? :')). I'm not certain I'll watch this year, just feel rather unenthusiastic about the whole thing, a shame as I've watched for the best part of a decade.
January 11, 20205 yr I'll probably put it on as I always do but this is definitely the most apathetic I've ever felt about the BRITs.
January 11, 20205 yr I feel like Camila is the more questionable one to be in over Taylor. I had Lana as a dead cert, personally. (With Ari, Billie & Lizzo too) I thought Taylor was on lock too. But I assume this means Camila will be performing?
