December 12, 20195 yr The pre-2019 singles ('It Ain't Me' through to 'Back to You') are being included as deluxe tracks, which will no doubt help with streaming. Release date of Jan 10th! Very early in the year, should easily get her first Top 10 album quite comfortably.
December 12, 20195 yr Unlikely I'd say, her last album didn't even sell 6k in its first week - I imagine this album will perform better than that but not enough to challenge for #1 which will probably take around 20k.
January 10, 20205 yr Surprised how quiet this thread has been! So refreshing for an act like Selena to just release two songs/singles from the album in the build-up, makes it so much more special listening to the album in full for the first time. Camila, take note 🙃 Love what I’m hearing so far, she’s really found a sound that works so well for her. Really distinctive and very ‘her’. ‘Vulnerable’ is my favourite so far, but loving everything so far. Those verses 😍
January 10, 20205 yr Really not a big fan of this, it all blurred into one for me apart from LYTLM and The Sweetest Place which were for sure the highlights
January 10, 20205 yr Not for me, she stepped up her game on her last one but this is generic and samey. People you know and Rare are very good but I was hoping for more LYTLM type songs. Pop music has let us down lately, thought this may have saved it a bit but was expecting too much.
January 10, 20205 yr Revival was one of the best albums of the last decade. Rare sadly hasn’t blown me away on first listen but I’ll persevere, she’s quite understated a lot of the time so I’m sure it’ll grow.
January 10, 20205 yr I really like this on first listen! It's nothing too exciting or something I've not heard before but as far as pure pop albums go this is one of my faves in a while. None of the songs bored me they're all at least decent. Edited January 10, 20205 yr by LMLou
January 10, 20205 yr Author It is a bit samey, and I'm slightly disappointed but I do like most of the songs! Of the new songs Rare, A Sweeter Place and Crowded Room are the best tracks, it feels like when you hear the title track you don't need the likes of Fun, Let Me Get Me and Ring (which is terrible). It's definitely a solid, cohesive album that clearly represents where she is in life now but I put such expectations on it after Revival was one of the best albums of the decade (probably top 5 for me) that I think I need a few listens to get past that. I wish there were a couple more sparse ballads like LYTLM because that's a perfect example of how her voice can be used to its best, whereas a lot of the tracks just lose it or show it up for its flaws.
January 10, 20205 yr It's not a bad album but it all just blends together and I don't think enough songs utilise her lazy vocals in a particular inspiring way making it all feel a bit lacklustre. I'm sure plenty of songs in isolation are better than they feel in the album but as an entirety, there's very little that jumps out and what does jump out feels like it only jumps out for being an 8/10 in a bunch of 6s and 7s. Not bad as such, just nothing special and 'Revival' does a lot better at making her seem more interesting and sultry and the 2 lead singles from this (both Julia Michaels writes, she doesn't appear on any other tracks bar 'Fun' which is completely devoid of its title) deceive you into believing a diverse album is amongst this. I like both collabs, particularly A Sweeter Place, while 'Vulnerable' and 'Let Me Get Me' are the other stand out album tracks. 'Ring' sounds like a terrible attempt at trying to create her 'Havana' or 'Senorita' but it falls completely flat, while 'People You Know' really highlights how little emotion her voice can carry while she's trying to convey something of loss if there isn't interesting production around it (like in 'Lose You To Love Me').
January 10, 20205 yr I really like this on first listen! It's nothing too exciting or something I've not heard before but as far as pure pop albums go this is one of my faves in a while. None of the songs bored me there all at least decent. I had similar thoughts. I've never been particularly blown away by Selena's music, although I have liked a fair few songs, but this was an enjoyable listen. I agree with Cremey that she's found a good sound that works for her. 'Let Me Get Me' was my standout.
January 10, 20205 yr I thought this whole album is really amazing and without any weak tracks. I've always been a fan of Selena but this had put her in another level for me.
January 10, 20205 yr The whole album is just "will this do?". Nothing remarkable at all, and not bad. I'm struggling to muster up an opinion other than meh?!
January 10, 20205 yr I totally disagree, I actually don't like any of her past albums but really like this one but maybe I'm biased cos I love Lose You to Love Me and think it's her best song ever
January 10, 20205 yr My favourites are Dance Again, Let Me Get Me, Cut You Off and Lose You to Love Me
January 10, 20205 yr Gonna listen to this tomorrow. Not exactly a stan but I sort of like her at the same time. She can get it right but a lot of the time she just passes me by and I don’t think much of her as a live act either. I heard the title track today though and wasn’t really blown away by it. But after hearing snippets of some of the other stuff on there I think there’ll be at least a handful of stuff I like.
